I find it interesting that AFD has received little credit for taking the appropriate actions in this case. There was never an attempt to cover this up. An outsid agency was hired to perform the investigation. Once the investigation was complete, these individuals were disciplined in short fashion. This is what I would hope would happen when allegations of this nature surface. Those that are critical of the process sound like individuals who either couldn't make it into AFD or who have an axe to grind. Just my thoughts.
AFD did not hire an outside agency. A cowardly APD officer reported to his supervisor that his girlfriend was cheating on him and the paramedic class. She broke up with him and because of this he retaliated. Shawn also has ties to the media (you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours) which made this a public affair.AFD conducted their own investigation after APD conducted theirs and concluded that this was a terminable offense. What they did was wrong, but Shawn is a coward.

Your wrong. AFD hired Caswell Investigations to conduct the investigation.

Shawn went to Internal affairs LT. Allen Banks and made the initial report. This report was forwarded to AFD, then forwarded to City Legal, then Robert Caswell was hired.... So it still started with Shawn.

Where was that honor system when APD officer,Shawn Casuas, broke into his ex-girlfriends email and forwarded the info to Internal affairs just because she dumped him? He had knowledge of the emails for months, but turned her in for cheating a week after they broke up.
Well, if were gonna start throwing names out there you should atleast get your facts straight. From what I know of the investigation, emails were traced from the police and fire departments to seans compute at home and he was told to bring his computer in to copy the hard drive and thus all the tests were found and he was interrogated. Sounds like he didnt really have a choice brainiac..........how do yo "break into" someones email anyways? Dont you think that would have been brought up in the investigation and the cop would have been fired too?

Dont be fooled by all this jargon. These two firemen were suspect from the beginning of the class for cheating and fooling around. The fire department didnt have the balls to do anything about it, like always. Did anyone know that the instructor and cop grew up together and graduated together? Food for thought guys..........I dont think he turned anyone in, he just got caught up in a scandal that was bound to happen. And if he did, oh well, they shouldnt have been cheating in the first place.

"wrong" is the perfect name for you.
When “she” did poorly on the "hands on test" and then aced the written exam, the suspicion had begun and questions were already being asked. A laptop was confiscated by I.A. and they did any account hacking that went on (the investigation was underway by this time). Since I was right next to the situation the entire time, I can tell you that the APD officer broke off any relationship with her as a result of her not only admitting that it was test answers that she was “circulating”(*circulating*- but AFD will cover up the rest of the details) but after she shared what it was that she promised in return for the test answers. Prior to that, any mention of what she had been “emailing” had been construed as study materials. It was only after the regular and unusual contact from the instructor that suspicions were raised and questions were asked.

The fact that no one else from AFD is mentioned in this (the test was circulated!!!) will tell you who traded their statement for getting to keep their job. They are the ones with the honor problem… not an APD officer who picked the wrong person to be in a relationship with.

Most of the comments you see here a people with personal agendas!

No! It started when she didn't do well on the practical and then aced the written exam!

First, she messed up, but Ortega is not innocent by a long shot. Second, her ex, who I have met is a big piece of shit. He couldn't satisfy her with a little pecker and did what any Abq. cop would do and ran and told on her.

I know Alena! Smart girl, and very beautiful. Sucks to hear this type of news. So she cheated...just a bad decision. If theres one thing I know about this girl, its that she falls for some of the most stupid men in Albuquerque. Hopefully she learned her lesson bc it costed her career.
