Sometimes I feel there should be a licensed issued to those who want to become parents with parental classes being givin before they have a child. Me as a mother and grandmother would have gladly done the requirements. I feel for the children being raised in bad and abusive homes. The little boy is with the Angels now. Parents need to realize that children are a gift from God. We don't own the children but have these children to raise correctly until they can take care of themselves. Children are our future. To those who beat and spank and abuse kids mentaly and physicly think twice if you would want to be treated like that. And if you were treated bad as a child, and didn't like. What gives you the right to follow the cycle of abuse. Raising responisble children is the best you can give your kids. Raise abusive kids with abuse and you are giving them a cycle to abuse there kids or for kids to grow up and do other crimes. I thank God everyday I had good parents. Strict parents but good parents. I hope this mother gets what she diserves and is allowed to never be around children again or God Forbid she don't have any children.

I am a front desk clerk at the Hobbs Family Inn where this family stayed when they first moved to Hobbs. We had contacted the Child Protective Services in response to this child being abused previously. This little boy did not need to die. Why did CPS do nothing?! We called CPS about a little boy with black eyes, scrapes on his face, bite marks on his body, and a broken arm. They brought cheese to thier house. Good job, morons. What happened to his sister? The entire staff at our motel is absolutely sickened by this, and we all know it did not need to happen. We all bought food for these kids, we had snacks when his big sister got "home" from school. We loved those kids, we cared for those kids, and now one of them is dead and the other is not accounted for. This child did not need to die.

cps is the same everywhere, lazy i***** who sit behind their desks with nothing better to do than look at paperwork. now if someone mentions that someone has called before cps will say that they have never had any calls.
mother earth, you are right there should have to be a licence for having children, but people love to disobay the law so that would just be a new one to break.

This makes me sick. I loved these children. I babysat them for about a year or a little over. I contacted CPS several time, a teacher contacted CPS, a police officer, and poison control. They will not get away with this. I will make sure that these idiots we have running CPS will have to have some kind of expertise in Child Psychology. Right now they have some kind of Natzi power with no education in this field, all they have to have is a bachelors degree in something, it can be basket weaving for all they care. Does this make any sense to America? A lawyer can't practice law with a nursing degree! They are playing with innocent lives and I will not stop until something is done. As for BOTH of the parents, not just her, I hope they get what is coming to them. God will not let this go with out punishment. I love you Julian and you will always be in my heart!! As for the little girl she will be very safe and loved! I love you too!!!

....My heart is heavy with sorrow. There is not a day that goes by without reading stories of child abuse resulting in death. If anyone is interested there are wonderful sites on "MYSPACE" of advocates against child abuse ....involving petitions and law changes against these diabolical beings who hurt God's innocent children. We all need to get more actively involved in abuse prevention.

This stuff kills me! I can not imagine harming a child.

What's sad is that you have people so afraid to simply spank their child because of what CPS will do to them. Then you have people that have CPS called on them 6 times and nothing happens.

Mother Earth, there is that joke about needing a license to marry, to drive, to fish... but not one to have a child.

You are so very wrong! Not every social worker is bad. My brother and my son both are social workers and they have to have masters degrees and take the appropriate college courses. Don't hate because you've had a bad experience. There are plenty of people who have been helped by social workers. Especially children!

It's true that social workers help many, many families. They are the ones in the trenches, going into filthy and often dangerous home situations to investigate. However, it's like any other organization (especially when the government is involved), workers hands are tied by superiors and/or larger governing bodies. If they rock the boat they may be out of a job. You might be thinking that they should take the risk, but when you are a single mom with kids of your own to feed..........you have spent 6 years of your life in college and a boatload of money....well, it's not an easy place to be. We are so concerned about the liability (if we point the finger) and being politically correct in our society and look who pays the price. I applaud all who reported, but how many of you did so anonymously? It also sounds as if this family moved around some. This is very common of abusive families when schools, agencies and CPS starts poking around. What better way to escape detection than to move across state lines? Just some thoughts to put things in perspective.

You know, I have to agree with some of the other comments that have already been posted in relation to the abusers getting what they've got coming. Everyone is pointing fingers at Contessa, and feeling sorry for Brian at this time. As far as what happened, there is no excuse and it is a terrible thing, but if CPS had been called 6 times obviously Brian knew something about it. Why didn't he do something before it went this far. A similar case in Oklahoma with Kelsey Briggs ended the same way. The stepfather was the first one put away for the murder but later the child's mother got hers for allowing it to take place. Time will well.

In response to this, the little sister is in a fh for now and her dad (a personal friend of mine) is coming out this week to get full custody of her. Contessa has been fighting to keep custody of her daughter from my friend who has been trying for years to get her to himself. She will be so much better off with him. She is his life and will never be touched by anyone out of anger. What Contessa did is outrageous. She had child services watching her in Texas before moving to NM. Child service then said after she left that they were out of jurisdiction and there was nothing they could do. They should have and I stress SHOULD HAVE passed on the information and counts against her to ALL state child services. I have heard of this happening before and to me it seems that there should be a national child services system that follows the abusers to wherever they may go.

To all of the people that have made comments here, we all appreciate it. I am the little girls stepmother. My husband and I have been fighting for custody of her for a very long time. There has been more than enough evidence for CPS to take these poor kids away from them, but for whatever the reason is, they didn't do anything. Our hearts go out for poor Julian and I hope that he feels no more pain. I don'tunderstand why it took a childs death to get the attention from authorities that was needed before hand. It could have been stopped. Not to mention, where the hell is this little boys mother? As for the little girl, no one needs to worry, her Daddy is going to get her just as soon as they let him. She will be with the family that Contessa tried so hard to keep her from. We all love her very much and she will have all of her family including the ones in TX and her little brother and sister (that she hasn't been allowed to meet) to help her through this time. Hopefully, she gets what is coming to her and as for Brian, if he did have anything to do with any of the abuse, God will make sure that he pays as well. May poor Julian Rest in Peace.

In recent years, there have been numerous stories in newspapers around the country about the failures of the departments of Family Services and Social Services to do their respective jobs of monitoring and assisting children in dangerous situations. These stories are a step in the right direction, but one wonders if perhaps they came too late. All the outrage in the world can't resurrect a dead child.
Too many children have died as a result of wrong decisions by CPS. With power comes responsibility and accountability, which most officials ignore. A child welfare system so overwhelmed with children who don't need to be in foster care, the less time they have to find children in real danger.

Let's NOT allow these precious children's death to be in vain - in the news one day, forgotten the next. Please be a voice for good, a voice for the voiceless, a voice for change.

I thing that i dont understand is how there have been so many calls to cps about the kids being abused and wat did they do? Absolutly nothing!!! SO many stories have been told to me about the discipine that contessa would give the kids if they were bad. And let me tell you...it was bad. How could cps not notice anything wrong here. They say their there to help the kids but in reality they have no idea wat their doing. Obviously...because this wouldnt have happened. It could have been prevented if cps would have taken a closer look. Julian did not have to go through this. He was only 3. Contessa had no right to do such a thing. If you ask me..she should be put on death row as well as the dad bc he knew wat was going on. How couldnt he? Come on guys....even a 5 year old could tell something was wrong here. why didnt cps? Wat kind of care are we putting are trust in to help the kids in this world. Now we know wat kind of government we have. Julian did not deserve this..no one does. My heart goes out to him. AS for his sister...dont worry about her. she is gonna be with her real dad who loves her more then anything. She doesnt deserve to live the life she was living. Now she is gonna be with the real family who loves her so much. I love you X. and I love you Julian. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.
