This crooked beyotch, Karen L. Montoya, who was caught last year UNDERVALUING her own home by $100,000. in order to pay less taxes, says in her Notice of Value just received that home values in Bernalillo County were up by $4,000+ and IS TAXING you as if your home went up in value.

I contacted K-O-B TV 4 Newsroom, but without even sounding mildly interested, they said they "would look into it" without taking down our names or address. By comparison, K-R-Q-E C-h-a-n-n-e-l 13 gave us their fax number 8*4*2-8*4*8*3, ATTN: Paul, and asked us to send our last year's and this year's Notices of Value. Shame on you, Channel 4! I may have to switch if this is how much you care about downtrodden taxpayers!

These buzztards are giving themselves raises, and faking retirements in order to double dip and THEY ARE RAISING OUR PROPERTY TAXES in spite of significantly decreased home values! Arrrrggghhhh! We are mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore! We're going down to the Assessor's Office tomorrow! 501 Tijeras NW, Albuquerque, NM

Sadly, half the time if the assessors office goes out to your property to reassess they increase it even more. Good luck though, I hope you are correct.

Yup got mine today and my value went up, yet we all know it truly went down.

So what to do, pay the amount I feel it is worth in taxes or or demand it be reevaluated at their expensive?

Surely they don't think I should pay $350 or so to have an appraisal done.

Our justice system let us down two times today and now our government is going to put its hand deeper into our pockets because our home values have gone up this past year. All I can say is WOW, great time to be a New Mexican and an American.

Quite true. I just got mine and it went up by over $1000 too - again.

I did protest once and got it lowered. They were wrong and had counted our garage as living space and had us having more bathrooms than we have. I wasn't allowed to get back what they'd already collected over the past 30 years though.
Dispute it

AOL

You can dispute it. I also think by state law the assessed value of your home cannot be increased by more than 2% from one year to the next. You have to dispute it in person. Show up at 501 Tijeras NW with as many articles stating that Albuquerque home prices are down. In one article or newscast, they said that "the median value of a home in Albuquerque is down to 2006 levels". That should help. Good luck to all of us! PS- and they sent this thing out to arrive on April Fools' Day!
Values inflated

Assessors all over the country are under pressure to artificially inflate home values to make up for falling government revenues. In Albuquerque, the situation is even more insidious due to the close partnership between government/realtors/developers .
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SOME REALTOR LEFT YOU A FLIER ON YOUR PROPERTY WITH THE PRICES OF OTHER PROPERTIES THAT HAD RECENTLY SOLD? They are hiding
the severely depressed values and final sales figures for homes that do sell.

Here are a couple of links to graphs that will provide you ammunition against Bernalillo County Assessor as to the TRUE state of Albuquerque home values.

Good luck all!

The links I supplied are EXACTLY as they appear when I downloaded both graphs from the net. For some reason, when you click on them, you go to a homepage or to a "not found". You will have to go to GOOGLE IMAGES. Type in "Albuquerque Home Value Graphs" and you will then have to scroll through all the various graphs before you get to the ones that apply to you. Apologies for something beyond my control!

Values are going up. But not to the extent that the assessor would like.

Bureaucracy is designed to do public business. Over time it develops an autotonomous life of it's own and then comes to regard the public as it's enemy.....The assessed value statement that was sent out in the mail was only example of this absurdity. With the slump in the economy, home values de-appreciating and then to have the "idiots" assessing more value on your home? All is artificially concocted for lining the pockets of the great city fathers.....Lol, wouldn't it be so right if 70 to 80% of taxpayers protested this last assessment?...

Got my notice yesterday also. It doesnt look good and I am going to protest it. You can also look on line at your property value going through the county clerks webpage. Last year my tax went up (or what they call lightning taxed) by 800 bones since I purchased a new house. It is unreal.

To all of you who are planning to protest your property tax valuations, I say GOOD LUCK!
BUT
You really don't have a snowball's chance in He!! of winning!
The protest board will go thru the motions of listening to you THEN deny your protest!
The underlying reason is that the board has absolutely no reason to change the valuation BECAUSE the next step, if you decide to pursue the matter, will be to go to court where you will be responsible for your own attorney feea PLUS THE ATTORNEY FEES FOR THE COUNTY'S LAWYERS!
LOTS OF LUCK!
So, if I pay for a professional appraisal will that work?

It should. They're about $400 now, I think.

What you can do is go to the county clerks website and pull the lowest property values that are in your area.It wont cost you nothing to do this. You can go protest armed with this information. Or call Double Eagle Property tax. They will protest for you if they think they can win. I was listening to K-K-0-B and they had them as a guest today. They charge 35% of what they will save you (or nothing at all if you dont win) for residential. I have already sent my information to see if they can help me. I was unfortunatly zapped by lightning tax. ouch!! that hurt.

Probably not! The board will allow you to submit whatever documentation you wish but as I said before they have nothing to lose by denying your protest.
So, do you know what they base it on? Square footage, number of rooms, number of bathrooms, fireplaces, garages, etc. If they base it on those things then their records are complete wrong.

What I don't understand about all these people that claim they were zapped by tax lightning is WHY DID YOU AGREE TO PAY THE PRICE YOU DID FOR THE HOUSE YOU BOUGHT????
The new purchase price becomes the new value!
Didn't that give you a clue that your property taxes would go up???
Where was the real estate agent all this time?
Hmmmm. I bought this house in 98. This is the only house I have ever owned. No, the realtor doesn't tell you squat about property taxes, or anything else for that matter. They want the commission. In 03 or 04, the lovely re-evalution hit and my property taxes are 5 times what they were in 98. As a first time (only time) buyer, I didn't know anything about property taxes.
