Just wanting to say adios to an american icon. Hostess is shutting down. Good-bye cream center cupcakes of my youth. No more Twinkie jokes. Victim to natural foods and healthier eating {?:)}. Good-bye 18,000 workers.

Make a fortune. Buy up all the Twinkies available and slowly auction them off on EBAY after they are no longer on store shelves. Mitt and Plastic Annie might be your best bidder, searching for something tasty to stuff into their everlovin' pie holes since becoming America's Biggest Losers.

Hostess was a corporation and as we all know - thanks to Mitt when he briefly paused from stuffing deep fried twinkies into his pie hole long enough at the Iowa State Fair to eMitt these words of wisdom - "Corporations are people, my friend.": http://theweek.com/article/index/218203/mitt-...

Just a sign of the times and it will get worse. 18,500 workers is a lot of people to put onto the unemployment lines across the nation from one major employer. Their products will be missed by most.

Silver Point Capital and Monarch Alternative Capital endorsed a restructuring deal for Hostess that included an immediate 8% wage cut, adoption of work rules that favored only the company, radically decreased employer contributions for health insurance, and drastic reductions in company contributions to multiemployer pension plans.

Making crap products that don't sell for shit for crap wages and crap benefits, oh boy what a job to have. The hedge fund companies knew their greed-driven restructuring would lead to a shut down. Hostess sells off. Silver Point and Monarch Alternative reap the only benefit they have any interest in. T H E M O N E Y

They don't have to worry about making crap products for crap wages and benefits anymore, idea man. Seems that having one idea acted upon is more powerful than a lot of ideas never acted upon. Like one note Johnnies.

So once again between the big speculative bankers and the extremist unions...the company and the common sense workers with teamsters union...are caught and are casualties...this has got to stop from both ends...

Like Republican'ts Grand Old Party, Hostess management failed to adjust to evolving needs of customers/constituents, steadily but surely morphing their company/party into an obsolete producer of pure, unadulterated crap. Their employees/constituents naturally take the brunt of punishment from such woeful lack of foresight, forced to less and less for more and more work until it becomes intolerable.

It is appropriate for Hostess to go under, thanks to its bumbling mismanagement. Now the lenders can cash in on the brands by selling them off to the highest bidders, employees be damned.

The shutting down has to do with the union strike. The union workers had gone on strike before this last strike. The ompany warned they would close down should the union workers strike again and the union called their bluff and this is the end result.

The company filed for bankruptcy in 2004 due to long declining sales and the sales of its consistently crappy products have plummeted ever since. No attempts to adjust to market conditions or to innovate its product lineup into more appealing selections were attempted. Hostess kept on making and trying to sell the same old shit EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SECOND LARGEST BREAD MAKER IN THE NATION.

Blaming shoddy management on workers is a cop out favored by money barons throughout history. Grab the money and run, bastards.

Who's blaming the workers? Seriously?

Progressive liberals have some of the most irritating, diabolical ways of redefining everything in order to suit their twisted worldview...

Do you even hear yourself?

Point one: Hostess was the 2nd largest break maker in America. This means their "shit" and "crappy" stuff were selling pretty well...think of it as Ford vs Chevy or BK vs McD's or Coke vs Pepsi...all of these companies have shifted off and on from being 2nd and 1st but take Ford and Chevy...Ford didn't take ANY of the money from the government...they had to temporarily downsize and now they're doing better than ever...Chevy...DID take government money...and finally is starting to become competitive again...Dodge...well...they've always had problems...

You're blaming it on one single factor with such a cynical and warmongering view that it blinds you to some other factors...

I can admit that there is some corporate decisions but the unions themselves...specifically the baker's union...have themselves to blame too...after all the teamsters union agreed to compromise...

Next...the economy...still not what it had been...

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Virgo

You have energy to burn today and it needs positive outlets, otherwise you'll be rather ratty and impatient. You want to work on activities that will show you in a good light, and you'll be annoyed if anyone objects to what you're doing or points out where you're going wrong. If you've been nursing a secret passion for someone, the frustration will really get to you.
