A crowd watches as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus elephants take part in an elephant brunch outside the Times Union Center on Thursday May 2, 2013 in Albany, N.Y. Every year, the circus comes to town and the animal abuse people come out in droves.

Years ago a bunch of us were planning a marijuana-legalization rally at the Albany Capitol and the circus was in town, and someone among us suggested recruiting the "PETA" folks their for mere numbers.

I opposed the idea because I thought a whole sea of "meat is murder" lapel pins would reinforce the negative stereotype that all pot smokers were a bunch of New Age uber-vegans to the watching press and thus mainstream American public.

Been toking since summer '74 and I'm STILL quite the omnivore ... no intrinsic connection whatsoever, although I am anti-"pink slime" now and leaning toward more 'natural' meats even if they cost a little more.

... And giving-up pink slime helps you notice typos faster like "there" instead of "their" !!!

"Ahimsa" is merely the cultural Left-wing's version of the Right's 'puritanism'. Gandhi was just as silly as Jerry Falwell - in fact they're a sort of opposing, yin and yang that are both out-of-touch with the stark reality of this "clay" dimension.

wrong. showing kindness or practicing compassion is just not a this or a that... they are the actions of a well balanced, ethical and morally correct human being.

unless of course you are some apathetic, greedy and incoherent, DUMBYist slacker apologist. the true extent of your lack of compassion and awareness of animal abuse issues is a moral obscenity. and nothing short of amazing. and ahimsa has a very direct meaning. it is do no harm or avoiding violence. so the solution is simple.

educate yourself.

do some basic research.

reject violence in all its forms.

seek compassion.

go vegan.

do it today.

The key word IS "balance". I oppose true cruelty to animals and while I haven't hunted in years, when I did I did so only for food, NOT "trophies" ... for the latter one only needs a good camera with a tele lens, and not a gun, bow, crossbow ... and if we're talking aquatic environments, speargun or fishing pole.

But omnivorism DOES seem to be the way of nature itself, and to reject it altogether in my mind is to reject nature itself. You should read Lierre Keith's "The Vegetarian Myth" and how protein deficiency almost killed her when she went vegan.

Furthermore, my shotgun STILL remains in my closet for the potential "game" called 'Dick and Perry of "In Cold Blood" fame'. If something or someONE tries to kill me or a loved one first I WILL 'fight fire with fire' if it means staying alive longer in this dimension, and it is also my moral right to do so.

Finally, if one is a repressed legal/cultural minority like a marijuana smoker or homosexual it hurts one's movement to appear too 'weird' in other aspects in the eyes of the mainstream, middle-class, and sometimes Red State masses that one is trying to persuade.

In short (1) Booker T. Washington was generically RIGHT even on non-racial issues: In such situations progress will only be a reality if the most "respectable" and least "threatening" advocates are at the forefront of such 'liberation' movements, and (2) one cannot base morality in this dimension on how one perceives things when one is peaking on some major hallucinogen like LSD.

Just because omnivorism, defense-only weapons, or perhaps the U.S. Interstate System may look "ugly" when one is tripping big time does NOT mean that these things are intrinsically bad or evil ... this is one of the reasons I've always wanted pot legal and "divorced" from the true psychedelic mindset.

Why are you still here spouting your vegan/animal rights lies when you have been shamed and humiliated at every turn? You are one sad, stupid glutton for punishment.

wrong. what a perfectly absurd, dull and pointless rejoinder. the BANDWAGON FALLACY and the APPEAL TO IGNORANCE are both well-known logical fallacies and perfectly useless as far as logical and concise debate is concerned. your thick and insecure, poorly thought-out speciesist doubletalk is irrelevant and bogus to the extreme. nothing i have said here is a lie, animal rights theory speaks for itself.

I had a WONDERFUL skillet full of peppers, eggs, and cheese last night. My, my, how nourishing AND tasty it would have been with just the PEPPERS ONLY!

Just think, in twenty years or so I could have DIED from a protein deficiency disease JUST so chickens and cows would not have to be "enslaved" for their eggs and milk.

Furthermore I find it downright disturbing that yesterday's vegetarians have become today's total vegans. If we suddenly set those chickens and cows "free" I wonder how many HOURS they'd last in the wilderness before being devoured by a predator?

But of course the "enlightened" vegan mindset sees such symbiotic relationships as Satanic EVEN IF such animals are never slaughtered !!!

dairy is dangerous to your health. and the wanton cruelty involved is beyond insane. your ad hoc, fruity and irrelevant non sequiturs are the icing on the vegan cake. and what you carelessly choose to /mislabel/erroneously call the "vegan mindset" is based on compassion, ethics, logic, insight and basic commonsense. you need a brush up course in animal rights theory. i tell you no lies.
