this could have been worked out a long time ago if the ceo of ST Clares cared about the hospital

This is outrageous and I am shocked that this could happen. The area's second largest city w/no Catholic hospital - disgusting!

I no longer live in Schenectady, but still the closure of St. Clare's hurts. I grew up at that hospital - so many of my family worked (or still work) there. I volunteered there, worked there, met my husband and had my children there.
It sounds corny, but St. Clare's will always be a part of my life, and I will always be grateful for it's existence.

Didn't the Berger commission order Bellvue to close also? Why would Ellis take it over? What kind of backdoor politics went on there I wonder?

Bellevue was ordered to close.
Ellis now owns it and runs it.
They just consolidated.

$50M + $3M to merge them. I wonder how much they were losing each year, I bet no where near this amount.

RW I agree with you, just because a NYS senator has an emotional attachment to Bellvue is not reason for it to be saved while other hopitals are not given the same sort of attention.
