What happened is horrible. I know one of the lees children personly. The school wants to help, and wants to know what the lees and the friends caring for them need.

It is sad and tragic and happening far too often. You have a family in need of answers. Someone needs to find out if Mr. Lees was given an antidepressant to help "cope" with the martial discord. If so you will have your answer and the mother and children should have a lawsuit against the drug maker to help them get by without their father. There is something about those drugs and reaching for a baseball bat to use it on someone. The most common antidepressant on the market has "homicidal ideaton" - obsessive thought of killing and how to kill - listed as a side effect. The head of the National Institute of Mental Health said in August that antidepressants work like Ketamine, sister drug to PCP. Would you be surprised by this if someone had slipped him PCP? Both of the major shootings this week, Omaha and Colorado, were antidepressant-induced.

There are a lot of normal families who have problems. Who doesn't? This is just something that no one would ever expect. Our prayers are with the Deb and her children. We hope she can come home to them.

This is a very tragic story, but please remember there are two sides to every story and only those close to the family know the true story.

I see the people of the town had the house redone after the attempted murder. I don't see how anyone could go back to the place where their mother's head was beaten in and thier father killed himself. Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea. A for sale sign might have been a better thought. I truly feel that this will result in problems with the children down the road. The other thing is that all reports show this was planned, not an temporary loss of temper. Why did no one see this coming?

What side of the story makes it ok for man to beat his wife with a bat to near death, then kill himself two weeks before christmas? Then leave his 5 kids with no mother or father to feel that they are the cause. He was a sick man, planned the death of wife and himself. No side of any story makes this right. If you were so close, why didn't you stop him.

Not that I know anything other than what I have read on the internet, but just because he called the school to not have the kids come home to me does not mean it was planned. Could have been an argument that got out of hand and when he realized what he did, he didn't want his kids to see it. I just hope the best for Deb, the kids and the rest of the family.

From the Times Union, the local Albany NY paper:

After arranging for the kids to be picked up at school and kept away from home, Raymond Lees repeatedly bashed his wife's head with a baseball bat, then killed himself by attaching a hose to the exhaust pipe of his car, State Police said Wednesday.

Investigators believe Raymond Lees methodically plotted the attack. He called the Duanesburg school district and told officials there not to let the Lees children board the school bus. Instead, he said someone would pick them up and then called two family friends and asked that they pick up the kids but not to take them to the house, Coburn said.

Planned, the cops were there not a month before due to a "domestic disturbance".

I am not kidding. When I was a teenager, my stepfather would come home drunk and smack my mother around. The police were called repeatedly for "Domestic Disturbance". Back then if the woman said to leave, they left. Now if there is evidence of abuse, they have to arrest someone. My stepfather never "planned" to do any of the things he did. They just happened. Luckily, I don't have any physical scars, just mental ones.
