Delta jet to LAX returns to JFK after apparent bird strike
A Delta Air Lines flight bound for Los Angeles apparently hit birds shortly after taking off from New York this afternoon and had to make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Flight 1063, a two-engine Boeing 757, took off from JFK about 3 p.m. ET with 172 passengers and seven crewmembers.

These pilots are the pilots which should be seen as hero' rather then Sully Sullenberger.
It is an example of how gullible people are and how they are sucked into "Hype".
First of all, birds in engines is an everyday occurrence. The people who milk these disabled planes are never lauded and never heard about. The people you don't know are the heroes because they did it correctly.
How about Sully?
Sully's first mistake, rule number one....NEVER dive under birds!! When they scatter they dive. It is their natural instinct. It is a golden rule in aviation. In Sully's first interview the first thing he said is they tried to dive under the birds.
There is a second reason for this as well. The lower angle of attack created a more direct impact for the birds. Damage would have been less if he would have kept the climb rate going instead of taking such a direct impact.
Third, what did he do when they started loosing engines? He didn't look at what he had. Sully snapped, freaked out so too speak and shut down the best of the two engines. Soon after the second engine died then they tried to re-fire the engine they shut down but there was not time. This too a ROOKIE mistake!
Everyone touted his glider experience but....the Hudson was long. He needed no glider experience to hit an indefinitely long landing patch! It was his only option.
In fact the glider experience did not help. According to the FAA the landing was exceptionally hard increasing the damage. Second, Sully forgot to close the ditching valves which made it sink faster.
Sully did everything wrong and everyone survived which was a good thing. The REAL hero's got the plane back to the airport in a normal landing and they do it every day!!!!
But everyone made him a hero in a fan fair only the medea could generate. Just like Amelia Erhart which was equally incompetent. She wrecked a dozen airplanes and the only person who would go with her on her faithful flight was the local drunk aviator; and she had to beg him!!!
But that's the medea for you!
When sully appeared before the FAA, with his union representative at his side ready to shut it down if a hard question was asked, how did the FAA panel treat him? With serious questions?
They began their speak with "Oh sully, it is so great to have you here! We are sorry we need to ask you, but was it hard? How are you now? Thank you so much for coming!".
This world feeds on a gullible uneducated population!
