Former Austin musician Gil Askey dies in Australia

Rep. Dawnna Dukes, Gil Askey's cousin, confirms that the Austin native, trumpet player and Motown arranger died early Wednesday at age 89 in Australia, where he has lived for more than 30 years.

R.I.P. Mr.Askey. He played a huge part in the Motown Sound as well as with Diana Ross in her music in Lady Sings the blues as well as her jazz and blues concert Stolen moments in 1992. Mr. Askey was a great man.
