The backlash begins and will grow as sensible reporters take on the Hype.

You cannot fool all the people with the exaggerated claims made by the Michael Jackson supporters.
It just makes no sense!

Elvis Presley was unique all those that followed him even those with a lot of talent could come near to his achievements.

Elvis was the best that has ever been. MJ isn't
Elvis Presley by a long shot. Elvis is so far
ahead of anyone else, it isn't even funny. If
you remember how it was when Elvis died, you
know that it was bigger then any other death,
not counting Valentino's death in 1926. Some
just do not get the notion that if it happened
long ago, it wasn't as big, but MJ's passing is
a joke to those of us who saw and lived through
the time in 1977 when Elvis was gone. It was an
era that will never be again. I can say that Elvis
was way bigger and there was more serveve grief
for the loss of Elvis then anyone else in recent
history. People who were never there, can't really
give an opinion like that MJ is bigger. He is tiny
compared to Elvis. That's the way it is.

Honestly, in my opinion, you just can't compare the two.

Elvis was rock and roll, Michael Jackson was pop. Elvis died before Michael Jackson hit the pinnacle of his own success, and ultimately they were two completely generations in music. If Elvis were alive today, he would be in his seventies (most likely he would have stopped performing years ago) and youth today wouldn't be able to identify with his music the way yesterday's youth did.

And even the things they did for the music industry are different. They shouldn't be compared, not because one is better than the other, but because their career paths were different.

They were both called King of their own niche in the music industry. They both died young. The way they died is similar. But that's really all there is.

A sensible person wouldn't argue which one is bigger and better than the other. A sensible person would remember them as tremendously talented individuals and leave it at that.

there is no comparison betwwen the true King of Rock and Roll and the guy who called himself king of pop!
Elvis had a unique voice!too much charisma,on stage!! he never sung in playback even when he was very tired and ill!
Jacko copied many artists to create his own style!
we can't say that Jacko is an icon of Rock music, simply because he was a disco dancer and a funky singer!!
i think Jacko's music is more to dance in than to listen to...so he is just a model for names like Prince,Timberlake,Beyonce,Riha nna i think, or other names who try too hard to be on top during long time!

Justin Timberlake is the Michael Jackson of this generation just as Jackson was the Elvis of his generation. But you can't say that Elvis was like anyone else of his generation which is what separates him from the great ones like Jackson and The Beatles. People can lie all they want and try to build MJ into something oppositie of what he really was. But history books don't lie.

If anyone is interested the elvis.com .au website had an increase of 400 percent when michael jackson died and the website elvispresleymusic.com .au had a 550 percent increase. We haven't forgotten about Elvis even if we are thousands of miles away. There will always be a battle between these two artists. It will never stop because the media won't allow it.

I've mentioned it before, but it bears repeating:

Elvis did the young Ann Margaret.(Check out pics of her from '64)

In contrast, Jackson lost to the elderly Ann Margaret at arm wresting.

I rest my case.

This stuff around MJ now is not hype, it's real.
Mike certainly liked to hype things up to create interest, but that's no different to Elvis, The Beatles, or Abba for example. Their actual sales are far below those often credited to them by their PR machine and respective labels. Neither one has sold anywhere near 1 billion albums, for example.
In terms of real career success and worldwide impact, Jackson is right up the with the best of them, if not more than them, and that is not hype.

Decent contrast/comparison.
However, Elvis didn't give himself the nickname,'King of Rock and Roll', and didn't even like the term at first.

Jackson gave himself the term. Not at all kosher to give yourself a nickname.

Maybe they could have used the nickname the little boys gave him –

Actually, Elizabeth Taylor was the first one to call Michael Jackson 'the king of pop'. It's certainly possible that MJ may have asked her to do so, but I wouldn't know.

Could be true, but think of it;

What does Liz Taylor know of anything- save diamonds and collecting husbands?

I wonder if Liz and Jackson had wheel chair races?

I always assumed that if Michael Jackson hadn't asked her to say that himself, that Liz Taylor was just building up her friend.

it's all hype because Pedo Pan died

the majority of people didn't care before he died

and after they get over the news cycle, they will return to not caring

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Pisces

You're lacking in energy and resources today, which will soon slow you down and make you feel as though you're wading through treacle. The only way to cope is to have as many breaks as possible, and not to set yourself impossible goals that you could never hope to meet. You're also very susceptible to the criticisms or put-downs of others, but do your best to ignore them.
