I can understand how she feels, though it is a bit egomaniacal.

Tina is considered the queen just because she is not heavy like Aretha.

This is the same reason why Halle Berry thanked Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne but not Hattie McDaniel in her Oscar speech: attractiveness...

The focus on looks is ridiculous.

For some people, it's Chaka Kahn. For some it's Gladys Knight, and yes for some it's Tina turner. She isn't the queen of soul to everybody. She is a bit self absorbed though.

I never looked at it that way.. you may have a point but I thought Halle thanked the people who didn't get the Oscar but deserved it.

That dress was a horrible choice but Beyonce said the Queen not the Queen of Soul. People may not like Tina's music but I think she has established herself as a "Queen" in the industry. How many other 68-year-old women do you see performing as she did? I don't think she was disrespecting Aretha at all.

Get over yourself, Aretha.
Tina is the Queen of R&B.
Aretha is supposedly the queen of Soul.
Michael Jackson is now the queen of Pop, whereas, he used to be the King of Pop.

Speaking of disrespect, Aretha, you're just dissing yourself by not losing some of that weight. You're killing yourself. Get healthy and stick around longer.

Maybe she was right, maybe wrong. What does size have to do with it? So many of our young girls are in trouble now because of self image. I don't believe the title is based on looks. I think it all about talent. Different strokes for different folks. Aretha just move on!

You're absolutely right. Looks have nothing to do with it so the person who made her petty comment below needs to look closer. She is obese and seriously needs to lose weight for her health.

I mean come on now. We all know Aretha is the Queen and I don't think Beyonce meant any ill will towards Aretha by referring to Tina as the Queen. She was only showing the highest respect to Tina for her accomplishments over the years as an artist. Ok, maybe Beyonce should have used the word Legend or Legendary Tina Turner but still please Aretha; you should have kept your mouth shut on this one. It seems as if everyone is always trying to hate on Beyonce. How much longer will people hate on this young lady?

Aretha is definitely the QUEEN OF SOUL, and since that title was bestowed upon her decades ago, I can clearly understand her being taken back by the announcement Beyonce did at the GRAMMYS. To put it in perspective, every writer above would feel a little slighted if their name, title, etc., was issued or given to someone else. We as human beings are terrible to one another. What we need to be mindful of is "Judgment Day" for each one of us will stand and answer to every thought, action and deed that is not pleasing to Almighty God. It is very sad that we including myself are so swallow to the point we let one's size, looks, color be the sole attribute when we think or speak or an individual. Talking abour Aretha's size, warerobe are hurtful comments, if anyone of you are over age 50 trust me when I say the weight will come and you might not be able to do a thing about it. Aretha is spiritual and will eventually get over the mistake, we must move on and stop blogging it as a big THING!

For those of you who are too young to know...
Tina Turner is the Queen of Rock...
Aretha Franklin is the Queen of Soul...
and for the record I was offended that "Bouncy" was allowed to share the stage with Tina...she is no where near being anything that Tina is...or Aretha for that matter. And she never will be. I'm am so tired of the entertainment powers that be shoving these screaming banshees (Bouncy, Keyshia Cole-the undisputed Queen of the Ghetto, etc) down out throats while the real talent gets ignored...just because they don't meet the European standard of beauty...oh well, sex sells...

Likewise, I wish that Morris Day and The Time had been allowed to perform by themselves. Although I like Rhianna, I do not need to have "Umbrella" worked into seemingly every single music awards show that I see. I remember when Moulin Rouge came out and the young ladies who reprised Patti LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade" had either no idea what the song was about or who Patti was.
Kids, respect your elders. You are only here because of the Princes, Arethas, Tinas, Cabs, Ellas, of your particular genre were here before you.

Maybe I didn't hear her did she say the Queen of Soul? Or the Queen? There is a difference I think. Also I thought this was a forum for discussions... Aretha's dress made her look like a float. Where was her stylist? I'm sure she thinks she looked beautiful but I'm only giving my opinion since when is that a crime? There are T.V shows that talk about what people are wearing all day long.
