Did Jesus Have Dreadlocks?

Jesus was a Nazarite: a vow of Nazarites was to never cut his hair but “let the locks of the hair of his head grow.”(Nm. 6:2,5, Lev. 19:27; 21:5) The word Nazarite is from nazar, meaning unshorn. Woolly nappy hair, if simply washed & dried but never combed or brushed, will naturally entwine into long locks as it grows. Samson, the most famous example of locked hair, had seven locks.(Jg. 13:5, 16:17,19)

Hair is a really antenna that can receive and transmit energy! A Rastafarian explains that dreadlocks are a quality of Black people; they “are high-tension wires,” which transmits divine energy and inspiration from Jah [God], the creator, to Rasta, the mirror.”(Nicholas/Sparrow: Rastafarian -A Way of Life) As Blacks awaken to true self-knowledge and self-acceptance this brings, the negative racist conditioning with respect to their natural spiraling, nappy hair as “bad” and straighter hair as “good” will cease!

Yes, he wore them tied in this style. Like the actual individual dreads were looped or tied in this style.

So says a with Jesus on it coin made 2 centuries after his death.

I hope you're joking. His hair was like wool, as in sheep's fur. Read the Bible, because it tells you that.

The point surely has been kissed here. If the Bible depicts Him as having hair of wool, or some description thereof, how can you think that the so called images of Him are correct. The point raised by the topic is to point out that what you see, the image that floats into your mind that has been spread throughout the world, is not correct.

Your statement is as bad as the one I heard at a meeting where the issue of an official language for the USA was being discussed. One dear uninformed lady stood up and said that "if English was good enough for Jesus, it was good enough for her" I rest my case about the pictures, you've seen that "depicts" Christ.

He grew up in a bad neighborhood, but he wasn't a bad kid as you say.

Those were Greek or Roman coins. They make every famous person in their image. The Bible said He had hair like wool, so that's how it was simple and plain.

If you've actually been around sheep, you'd know that wool is not nappy. It is more like the hair of mideastern people: thick and wavy.

Genetic studies of bodies exhumed from burials 2000 years old in Galilee (Jesus' home turf) were analyzed and they were all found to be identical to modern Sefardim (the majority of the Jews today living in Israel). Now if all of Jesus' neighbors looked like modern Sefardim, how the hell could he be a black African? Or a long-faced Nordic, for that matter?

JESUS was a JEW. He probably looked something like Mel Brooks or Jeff Goldblum. They're Ashkenazim but with plenty of original Hebrew blood so they could pass as Sefardim.

Those of you claiming that the modern Ashkenazim look European...if we put most of them in Mideastern or Arab garb you'd accept them as Iraqi or Palestinian without blinking. Jesus did not look like Eddie Murphy, sorry.

The one on the right was made first then it was ordered to be changed to the one on the left with tightly curled hair because they felt he was to be portrayed as black, possibly because he was.

I want to find that verse that says Jesus' hair was woolly like wool. Where can I find it?
