<quoted text>first off I cannot sit here and judge a policmans actions. I know they do some f'd up stuff but how many occuptions are there in this country where you have a good chance of being killed in the line of duty? me for one sitting at my desk it will never happen. If you drive around with the bling bling rims the music blaring out of the sub woofers with bob marley stickers on your bumper and guess what is going to happen. You need to be undercover in your ford Explorer LOL. again I am not judging anyone but racial profiling is alive and well you just have to be smart enough to not draw attention to yourself.
You can't? You have all the statistical data required in order to reach the logical conclusion about this specific topic. It's very, very simple. Of course you can judge it. This behavior is illogical, irrational, and does not meet the publicly stated goal of law enforcement to root out drug users and dealers.

You can't judge it, probably because you're never, by virtue of your demographic, on the wrong side of it. And again, I have to state for the record that it is WHITE PEOPLE who statistically participate in the most drug trafficking in this country. SO - statistically speaking, if you're pulling over Black guys on suspicion on drug possession, you are barking up the wrong tree. The act is as devoid of logic as it is rife with moral culpability. It's racist: targeting a group of people that you know to be LESS LIKELY to participate in the activity you're attempting to prosecute? How do you make that math work? By being honest about the REASON for the profiling. It is racism, not solid law enforcement.

Now - if you want to talk about a myriad of OTHER crimes, we can discuss them separately. I'm sure there are plenty of crimes that Blacks commit more than Whites. But drugs is simply not one of them.

I have been pulled over and ask if my car was "mine" by an officer that was holding my driver's license in one hand and my registration in the other. Sometimes all people need is a complexion man. That's the reality. No amount of "proper talk", respectful demeanor, or otherwise "undercover" behavior, would have trumped the fact that my skin was brown and I was driving a nice new car through that officer's jurisdiction.

YES, profiling is alive, well, and morally reprehensible in most of its applications. As a White male, you're NOT going to face it, and you're NOT going to be affected by it much if at all. I don't mean to sound cavalier or indicate that you "can't understand" (because I think you do). I think we disagree on the overall efficacy of racial profiling and the shaky moral ground on which it stands.

statistical data does not take into account the fact these guys put their lives on the line everyday to make a living. do you? no so how do you know how you would react or what your frame of mind would be? I work with #'s all day you can twist them anyway you want its called creative accounting. next it depends on the hood where I live a white man is the minority so i know how you feel and how you are treated. i am not disagreeing racial profiling is alive and wrong however its a fact and if you are smart enough you know what you have to do disguise the profile. It boils down to being smart and not flaunting things.

Like this is news.

I find it remarkable that they attempted to redo the cocaine laws so that a gram of crack won't get you 10 times more time than 10 grams of cocaine in powdered form.

Funny, though. In order to make things more fair, they reduce the time crack perps have to do, instead of INCREASING the time of those who buy powder.

I think the powers that be would rather see blacks do less time for crack, than whites doing more time for powder or meth.

Whats funny is that I just left the Austrian perv dad story, and you can actually view several pages before you get any thing close to a racists.

I posted a comment there that said, "go to any story with a black subject matter or black subject and you'll find idiot racists on the very first page" ...lol

I don't think a real "master race" would whine as much as these white racists idiots do all the damn time.

Are you that blind. Why is it that some many white people are in denial. You it is reason like this when we try to stand up for our self against the injustice we see everyday we are called trouble makers. The whole point of this forum is to being to the attention of everyone some of the reasons black are still mad. No it is not about slavery but things like this. What is equal about me being profiled because I am black.

I mean cn any of you see and understand this at all

The big problem is the black drug dealer hasnt progressed past the street level mindset.

Police in Ohio busted a white family, with a ton of Mary Jane and a couple of million in cash in attic. Son was later busted and promo'd on Nancy Grace for making a toddler smoke a bowl on videotape.

Thats under the radar!!!

It is not just because you are black it is more because you are stupid.

Why ride around with dope?

Why ride around with dope, and a gun?

Why ride around drunk, with dope?

Why ride around swerving like you are in a rap video with dope?

Why ride around with dope and not know police tactics or search and seizure guidelines?

None of the above makes sense, HUH?

The reason white folks who smoke more dope than anyone on the face of the earth dont get arrested
proportionally is because they stay there a$$'s at the house and get high.

Technically you could be correct, but why assume that with all the other racially motivated shots that police officers take against blacks, that somehow they are handling the weed enforcement with a higher degree of integrity?

It doesn't make sense. White people defend every action of the system like it is their family. And even when the system is so blatantly wrong that even whites can't deny it, instead of raging against it you walk away offended like we should just play along.

I can hear you folks on both sides. And there are never any absolutes.

If you're caught with drugs, regardless of race, you can't deny that you will be facing issues.

But we also know that the rules are sometimes bent along racial and economic lines.

Some of the whites on this board know that they may get a ticket, when a more famous, rich, or politically connected person is caught they may have a few more options than the avg person would.

Using that same logic, you can probably more easily understand what some minority posters are saying.

That same crap happens based on racial lines also. I know of cases myself, while growing up in Brooklyn. I went to a mostly white school, but grew up in a black neighborhood.

I could hang out with white friends at school. We were stopped once and the cop had to smell the weed. 5 of us got off with a "you kids need to get the hell out of here, and don't let me catch you again". 4 white kids, one black, me.

I have been home, with other friends, four black kids, and even without the smell of weed in the car, we were all searched. Nohting was found.

This happened within two weeks of each other. I was actually doing something wrong with my friends from school, but got hassled far less.

I saw this alot. But I don't carry a stick on my shoulder about it.

I just realize that it could be and is a factor in many cases. So I'm not sure how all of you can be so sure that the protester who says "blacks are hasseled more" can be so sure that he's wrong.

Are you positive the cop that busted him would have treated everyone the same?

I'd like that to be the case every single time, but all emotions aside, its not so.

If I said anything that you think deserves vulgar remarks and racially motivated hatred in your response, go smoke one first, before you respond.

I'm sorry, but I patently refuse to grant enforcement officers blanket amnesty just because they put their lives on the line. But now I have to post a very import aside, because I don't want to be misunderstood on that point:

I have a profound, deep, and abiding respect for the men and women that put their lives on the line in order that the rest of us may live in a civil, sane (or at least somewhat so) society. I am very respectful towards officers of the law in general terms and I appreciate their service. Period. But that is NOT the same as saying they get to push whatever prejudiced ideology they want to just because they're cops. I don't need to know what kind of day they had or what kind of life they lead in order to objectively characterize certain behaviors as wrong.

Now - I just hate profiling because in practice, it turns out to be sampling error...and people use it to forward political agendas that have no basis in statistical fact. I live in an upper-middle class Black neighborhood. Very low crime, nice cars, nice houses, neighborhood watch, etc, etc. A few months ago we did get a "bad element" driving through - odd traffic, mostly in old beater cars, mostly lower class "from all appearances". Suspicious behavior. Ok. DRUGS. Meth. From Sumner county. We had a hell of a time getting the police come out and address this issue. Low crime area, and not the demographic they're used to persecuting. Eventually we did enough political maneuvering to get it taken care of. Arrests were made, and the "bad element" did not return. But my POINT is - those White folks were EASY to profile. They were just selectively allowed to continue unmolested because they were NOT Black. did NOT have gold teeth (actually most of them didn't have much at all in the way of teeth), they DIDN'T have "spinners", etc. Sure, you can make some assumptions based on people's appearances. But when you encroach upon their lives for no good reason...that's wrong.

:-)

Not quite as bad as when a cop basically tells you in your face that your are not good enough to be driving the car you're driving.

Stereotyping is one thing. It's just going to happen. It's even hellafunny sometimes when it's kindhearted. But having a power structure (that INSISTS racism is over and you should just get over it) come down on you because of your skin color is no fun.
