My last post I talked about the disadvantage of dark skin. This time I want to explore the disadvantages of light skin. Skin color has long been tied to notions of "race purity". In both the black and hispanic communities, dark skin is usually perceived to be more ethnically authentic than light. Women and men with dark skin are more likely to be accepted as legitimate members of their ethnic groups. They are perceived as racially conscious and less likely to be accused of "wanting to be white".Light skin minorities are sometimes see as not ethnically authentic or not truly black.
I think the most interesting aspect of skin color stratification is the paradox between light as beautiful, and light skin as not ethnically authentic. This points to the fact that blacks and hispanics most highly revere an aesthetic that least resembles most members of those communities. The female celebrities and other icons of beauty are often light skinned people with European features. On one hand,we name beauty only in eurocentric standards, and on the other hand we tell light skinned people they are not ethnic enough. This must be explained by the simultaneous processes of ethnic pride and racism. Ethnic pride in each community values people who most resemble that community's ancestors. Racism,on the other hand, devalues those people and values those who look closest to white.
Skin color remains an important status distinction within black and hispanic communities.Stratification by color is an outgrowth of the colonial and slave histories of each group and their contact with whites. Light skin has a few disadvantages, although those may be less directly linked to socioeconomic success and more linked to in-group membership.I think the legacies of slavery, colonialism and modern day racism still inform discussions of status and skin color.

People will judge others who are different from them...it's pretty much a fact.

The media has done a nice job messing with people so this whole light skinned vs. dark skinned shyt is still common today.

Personally, I think it's a load of crap. You'll have good and bad representation in every group.

My personal B.S. perceptions are:
Denying their African roots
Being Stuck-up
Have an easier lifestyle (access to better paying jobs and better opportunities...wtf)
Are accepted by whites more (A LIE)
Women are more beautiful than darker skin tones (B.S.)
Men are less masculine (more B.S.)
and last but not least...Don't understand the plight of being black!

my question is why are you talking about the light skin in the first place or skin color period don’t we get enough of that all ready?, I mean seriously dude, how is determining the disadvantage of the light skin going to help us ? please tell me I am dieing to know

The next thing I know you going to be talking about the disadvantages of the brown, not dark or light just in between, there are so many shades black people come in it boggling my mind why would any body care about the disadvantages and just accept and love your complexion for what it is

the disadvantages of being a light skin black is that most Hispanics that date black prefer darker skin blacks. And most light skin blacks are jealous that Hispanics prefer darker skin blacks not light skin blacks.

This soind to me as a bias and envious statement made by convetuous dwrk skinned blacks. Ffiest of all you cannot claim that sfrican americans are only dark skinned because in reality. A lot of them are brown to light due to racial mixing with whites in america. As a mayter of fact our claim is wrong because light skinned blacks are not less ethnic they are more ethnic because they have another race in them pther then black. Dark skinned blacks view themselves as strong and appealin but in reality dark skinned blacks are healous of light skinned blacks thats whybthey feel like theybshould have light skinned lids to break the cycle. Masculinitybha nothing to do with skin color but features and more deeper things. Black men who are dark are basically saying that they are the most masculine. This is not true one bit. Plwase do not blow up your head with your self hatred for your dark skin and making it seem superior to light skin because it isnt. Its just a color and that's all it ever will be. People hbe preferences light skinned black girls nat like dark skinned guys. However a dark skinned girl may prefer a light skinned man. Because dark women know that in society lighter skin is seen as more feminine and more womanish. They want to have kids by light men to decrease the melanin in their future generations skin tone. Giving there girls to look more desireable being yellow or light brown. Most people today have light skin. So it would be impossible to completely down it. Also dark skinned people cant get tattoos and they usually have bad hair. They dont fit in. And they are minors. This ethnic purity label was made out of hatred and jealousy of light skinned people making them feel less human or inferior for having light skin because dark skin people feel inferior to us. In reality dark skinned people are actually decreasing in population within the black community. Bot brown but truee dark skinned people who are the standard dark not coffee or caramel. Also light skinned people can tan. Even if it isnt natural it is possible at least. Overall being light skinned is better than being dark skinned so dont get do full of yorself.

You are correct, as a so called light skin black woman, you do have it easier from being underhanded and possess a superiority complex. I dislike mulatto woman trying to be all in African American business and set cultural policy. One dirty trick of so called light skin black women is the negative stereotype created of who is ugly and ghetto in the black community. Small things such as weaves, make up, nails, and other common beauty products have been used to diminish the value and stigmatize dark black women.

In regards to weaves and eyelashes, if you are a true African American women you should know that we should be treated fairly. Why can other women doll themselves up with extras but African American women cannot? I personally do not have a weave, but if I want to add an extension or color to my hair it should be acceptable. Other races of women do it and it's no big deal just a hair style change.

Most of this stigma is coming from the invaders - parasites in our community. Mulatto women trying to put a face oN WHAT IS CONSIDERED THE WORTHLESS BLACK WOMAN. They so happen to target dark complexion black women who want to wear make up or do something different with their hair. For just being a women and caring about variety in ones look (like other women) they get punished with a negative stigma created by mulatto bitches and the clown men they seduce.

See MULATTO WOMEN ATTACK OUR CORE PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES AND PLACE US IN A SMALL CORNER WHICH ALLOWS US TO BARELY MOVE IN SOCIETY WITHOUT BEING JUDGED. It's not right and should not be acceptable. The most ghetto and promiscuous bitch is a light skin (mulatto) female in the black community. She is like seven eleven to every man that comes along and acting like she invented hood.

Time to stand up to these women and send them off to stand on their own ethnic identity. If they want to create rumors and stereotypes - it should be about some type of mulatto women. Maybe the one who fucks every man at work and definitely the management! We have 100% consensus that this is how mulatto women operate and get ahead. Let's circulate that piece of truth and make sure not to call these women black but mulatto.

You're so ignorant of light skinned black people.
1) I'm lightskinned myself, and I've had a weave.
2) We do not have superiority complexes. Stop generalizing.
3) Literally everything you said sounds idiotic. If you want colorism to stop, and if you want some people to treat you correctly, then why are you claiming that "mulatto" women aren't black? Your statement is part of the problem.
4) You actually have your own superiority complex. Colorism at its finest. You disgust me.

Honestly, in the field of romance, I was beat out by guys with darker skin on many occasions. The women that want me generally like Caucasian guys. The Caucasian guys don't prefer them, so they are left wih me. I'll take it.

I've found that it is a very large demographic of black women who "prefer" dark skin men. It's like it's in style to diss light skin men yet men on the flip side worship, lust and adore light skin women! I think that the 80's promotion of effeminate looking light skin men played out and the gangster rap made dark skin men be in "Vogue." It's to the point where these aren't even mainly handsome dark guys that are getting this attention but just dark guys who portray themselves as thugs. See subconsciously a lot of these woman perceive dark skin guys as being more masculine. In my experience I've found the light skin girls to be the most vain, pretentious, obnoxious, two faced, shallow and materialistic creatures on Earth. In particular, the attractive ones.
