ConquestOfRichelieu wrote: <quoted text> Thank you Janet Ruth for posting some truth here. Latinos are no different from whites except for language... They are just the same hateful racists that white people are. Look at the Stormfront website, there is a spanish speakers section for the neo-nazi's to go to. That means that the latinos are even joining the white supremacist groups in order to become apart of the so-called "superior white race." And look at the La Raza crap, it means "the race." Its the same mindset white people have, latinos think their race is special or superior to other people. Same pitiful crap. Well Conquest see what your sayin about the white peeps an i agree with you. I meen im not racist like that. I have dated black men. its true that im proud of my latina race just like a lot of black women have pride in their race too. Now i admit that I have always had beef with some black women but thats a rival issue. what im sayin is that where im from the black females and the latina females rival against each other. do you get along with latina females? be honest.

Keisha B wrote: I noticed that long ago and its always been true to. Even back in the old days of Hollywood, they always favored light skinned actress like Dorothy Dandridge or Lena Horne. At least where black sex symbols went. They had famous dark actreses, but they never let them be sexy. I mean they gave Hattie McDaniel an Oscar way back when, and called her a great actress, but she was never shown as sexy. One thing I noticed also, is it is the same way with Latinas in Hollywood. Most of the Latinas I see everyday are brown and look mostly indio. But the ones in Hollywood, are always the more light skined ones, or the ones mixed with more white or a lighter skined race. Salma Hayek is light skinned, and mixed with Lebonese. J.Lo is really more golden than brown, and she even admitted that her color comes mostly from bronzers anyhow, almost all of the Latinas are light, and even the Latinos to. Andy Garcia, Ricky Martin,Mario Lopez. So you right that Hollywood is Eurocentric and makes darker skinned people invisible. Yes, or sometimes the minority can just be completely omitted and replaced by a white character. The most infamous case of that is "Kung Fu" when Bruce Lee applied for the role. He was rejected by Hollywood producers who preferred a white actor to play a Chinese Martial Arts character - David Carridine. As for Native Americans, Billy Jack is played by a white man - the popular Vietnam War era movie about Native Americans. Oliver Stone's movie "Platoon" has an experienced soldier, Elias, played by Willem Dafoe, a Dutch actor. In real life, Stone admits that the character was based on a real Native American soldier he knew during the Vietnam War. But he just completely replaces him with a white actor. I studied public health. It gets worse in healthcare. The disparities in healthcare providers is ridiculous. I thought the University of Colorado preferred mixed-blooded Native Americans with Causasian appearances who only speak English. They obviously did not want me, a real Apache with a brown complexion, jet-black hair, and bilingual speaking ability for the indigenous language. The reality of "Whitewashing" is everywhere in America.

latinqueen wrote: <quoted text> Thats true about Spanish tv shows. all the latinas have light skin. well some are darker but not many. I have heard before about what you say about latinas havin black connections. People have told me that i prolly have some black in me but I dont think thats true. But I dont agree that just because a woman has dark skin that men dont want to be with her. I have seen a lot of light skin latin guys who like dark skin black women. Agree,I don't know where people get the notion to generalize and say like it is a fact that men don't like dark skinned women, because it is not true at all.I think by in large most people will mate and have children with those who are closest in ancestry to themselves, thus more black marry other blacks, than marry outside the black ethnic group, more whites marry other whites than outside their race, more latinos marry other latinos than outside the race, and you also have blacks, whites latinos to a lesser extent, marrying outside of their ethnic group to virtually any other color combination. Anyway it has been my experience that when I see a white man with a black woman, she is usually medium to dark brown, never hardly is she what could be described as light skinned, proof that darks skinned women are favored by men of all kinds Halle Berry and her white beau are the exception, not too many white men are with light skinned black women. Irregardless of what the TV,and magazines portray as the light skinned beauty ideal,I don't think people in their everyday choices are quided all that much by TV,or mags.Probably men are attracted to a woman who physically resemble their mother, and women in looking for a man, probably want a man who physically resemble their dad, that is if they had a good relationship with that parent.

Its about money. Tv asks that one question. What is most marketable? Now what is sad is you will mostly see the bi racial showing a beautiful face and the darker will show the beautiful body

Well what you say makes sense. Are you black or latina? What part of NY are you from? In my old hood where I grew up latina females an black females didnt get along to good cause they was always rivaling. We didnt have many whites. But I never felt like white women was any competition anyway. I have always had to compete with black women. Thats the way it has always been for me. I feel like a black woman is my main competition as far as attractin a man. Maybe its just that way in the projects where I came up. But it may be that way other places too.

I am biracial black/white mixed.Grew up in the El Barrio area of New York, strictly a Puerto Rican area, though I don't reside there presently.I personally have always found Puerto Rican females easy to get along with.So that I don't know anything about there being any rivalry between black woman and Hispanic women, not here in New York City anyway.

Hell you don't even see a mixed black/white looking actor like Halle Berry or Venessa Williams on Latino TV Shows, and many many Latinos look tan,and olive skinned like these two women. They want to be thought of as being identically in color to white folks. White America sure does have a hook on people in this country. There may be a race/class connection. In the Dominican Republic, I noticed that most of the people were about the complexion of Halle Berry, thought there were others about the ocmplexion of Denzel or Naomi Campbell. And there were whites. But if you look at TV you'd get the impression that DR was a white nation. However, it seems from what I read that the social class structure in DR does become whiter and whiter higher you ascend; but it becomes more mixed in the middle and botton. Many of those Latin countries have a sort of white ruling class even when most people are not white. Perhaps this simply carries over into this country, reinforced by America's own racist culture.

From what I have heard by observing Dominican people, and from what I have heard and read about the DR,all that you mentioned here is an accurate discription of what goes on among the Dominican people, and how they feel about their color identification.Which as you say,is reinforced by the"white is better" thinking that prevails in this country, when they migrate to the U.S

There are White women who were minding their own business in their homes or on college campuses, and who ended up with biracial children as the result of attacks. Lets stop the finger pointing and figure out how to make the best of this mess that we are all in. Neither race is going anywhere.
