I've seen many rap videos with lightskin women. Even rappers are coming out and proclaiming to like lightskinned women the most. It's not just some 'Eurocentric propaganda' being spread all over TV.

1) How do you know the owners of the TV stations or commercial adds just have a personal preference for a kind of look they want to show for their TV shows or commercials? It'd be no different from someone preferring a light, medium or dark skinned woman to became their mate for life. Even though skin tone is very minute when it comes to these things, it's still a preference... everyone has them.

2) I hardly see any people with red hair on TV. I'm talking about that blatant ORANGE hair that I've actually seen more of in real life than on TV!

Who knows why we don't see some things like this on TV? I hardly ever see any Mexican's on TV, like the indigenous type, like George Lopez. He's very rare in Hollywood... VERY rare.

Maybe a lot of these types of people we wonder why they're not on TV are simply not signing up for these roles more so than light skinned people? Maybe people with red hair just rarely want to go on TV.

Maybe they have personal issues, thinking "People hate red hair. I am not appealing!" or "People don't like dark brown skin, so why should I bother going on TV?"

So on and so forth. You do cannot just blame the TV networks all the time, even though it's always possible there are some racists out there, but we do not know who is or who is not.

All you can do is let it go. If you're dark skinned, or have a rare physical attribute, then push beyond what you ASSUME and go for your goals in life. Many people didn't even dream there'd be a black president (or, half black) within the next 100 years... but it happened.

The more you doubt, the more you'll only fulfill those doubts by never trying in the first place - a self-fulfilled prophecy.

Put energy in to NOT caring what others think and put it into striving to fulfill your goals in life. Constant attention on negative thoughts will only bring you DOWN; it doesn't help, but rather, it hinders. Drop it, for your sake!

This is the reason I don't watch too much TV and I intend reducing the time I spend in front of it even further. TV is unreal, we don't see ugly people on TV, we don't see ourselves, everybody is clean, glossy and neatly dressed, we are not always like that, we don't see people with no teeth. In UK they have a casting agency that deals with ugly people only, I like that and they have managed to find TV jobs for ugly people. Thats part of our society, why should they be cast aside and be made to feel sorry for themselves.

You know "untouchable_cat", here in my country, "coloured", has another meaning. It means you are mixed, either with Khoisan, African or Indian (there are lots of Indian people in SA), mixed with white.
So the funny thing is we really do look "coloured". The funny thing is the white taint makes "coloured" people believe they are superior, yet, they are a people who have lost all their African identity. A little like what has happened to African American (my opinion). I am, however, stereotyping to an extent, as I am sure there are those who embrace their Black or Africaness.
So you will actually find "coloureds" who live in Africa, not identifying with being African. It is such a "paradox". I think that Satan must have been writing the script for the way this "play" would pan out. Today, he must be laughing at the fruit of his labour, because he has people tripping all over themselves trying to prove their whiteness. What a joke!
The whites want nothing to do with us! Never have, never will!
I hear what saying, and so everyone knows,I have not met one person(AA),light or dark that was not proud to embrace being black.

This helps me to understand this egyptians girl I was talking to on another topix. She says there were never any black egyptians, and if there were some then where did they go.She also said the people living in the south were all foreigners.I say this because it was funny to me,when I looked at where she lived, everyone there was whitish looking.Them she tells me she was a copt.

Now the part about lighter (AA)being encouraged to be overseers of darker(AA),I don't agree with.
Also when come down to ladies,we usually look at what their bodies look like, skin color is the last thing we look at.At least as far as the people I've met,Because light or dark fine is fine.

Yes, I am Bantu (ethnicity), because I have Zulu blood. I think that I did point out in my first post that Coloured was a mixture of white and almost every other culture found in SA, sorry I did not specify (Malay). Do you feel I should feel ashamed about being Bantu?

If you live in SA you know that coloured people are racist, period, especially those from the Western Cape. That is why they voted DA, hence, they will forever be servants to their colonial masters. I do not say you should not embrace your heritage or ethnicity. I say you should not shun that which is part of you, that is, Africa.

It is a bit naive to stereotype all coloureds as drug addicts. I think you know that there are reasons for the socio-cultural issues that are prevelant in poorer communities of SA, coloured communities are no exception. You have said it yourself, coloured people are/were marginalised, during and post apartheid. They are still battling to climb out of this state. Indian people embrace their identity that is why they flourish.

If you visit any westernised country you will find that marginalised people there suffer the same fate as coloured people back home in SA. Poverty is not a coloured disease. Change we need. It begins with you... I wish I could say I lived in a perfect world and a perfect country, but, alas I do not. At least I am realistic about certain things and don not try to hide. I will never allow my mind to be raped...

I kow, why people don't want be black or African, especially mixed people. Why, God only knows. They straighten their beautiful natural curls or wear extensions to erase any trace of their natural hair. Boohoo... My country has been turned upside down and inside out. Gutted, toppled, senseless...

My father is kikuyu (bantu) so that makes me also bantu I guess. Some people think I'm from south africa. Its not really clear on the pic, but my face is rounder shaped then it looks :) Are you bantu on both sides or one side. Or are you coloured. omg Are coloureds really racist? I cant believe it! And no .. no one should be ashamed being bantu. well wishes from a bantu sista from kenya!

i am glad you like the articles. i was wondering which of the articles did you find the most surprising and the most informative? and have these articles help draw parells to your own society? what is your impression of the color hierarchy in egypt, yet to a lesser extent in sudan, because in sudan it seems to affect women mostly, which is unforunate. however, in egypt you do have alot of dark skinned people in professions, whether writters, doctors or scientist. so, it is not grim, and of course people do marry across the color line. however, it is interesting because egypt is in the fault line between the arab and mediterrain and the african world.for example from alexander to al minya it is part of the mediterrian world and the people(not all since you have many southern migrants)are quite arabic looking, nevertheless when you hit luxor all the way to abu simbel the people resemble northern sudans, somalis, or ethiopians. i don't know to be fascinated by it or confuse, need less to say, i find it quite astonishing. lastly, did you know that northern sudan use to be apart of pharaonic history?i just wondering did you know that fact.
