Elvis Presley has been dubbed the King of Rock and Roll, but is he? Before Elvis there were great Black musicians of Rock and Roll like Chuck Berry, BB King and Little Richard. Elvis Presley's first hit song was written and recorded by Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup, a Black man. This work is about the Black influence on Elvis Presley.

Here is a link to a youtube video where Elvis tells crowed that he can't accept the King label:

Try to focus on Elvis's voice because it's not real clear. But the recording is good enough that you will hear Elvis specifically address the King label and his view that Christ is the only King.

THIS IS A SICK FORUM FROM THOSE WHO POST RIGHT UP TO THE MODERATORS OR WHOEVER IS DOING THE CENSORSHIP.

Elvis is not the King of Rock and Roll, except for Whites. His first big hit was Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup's "That's All Right Mama." Many of his greatest songs were written by Blacks like Claud Demetrius and Otis Blackwell. Little Richard, Fats Domoino, Chuck Berry, etc. were far better than Elvis.

Otis Blackwell wrote "All Shook Up," which Elvis recorded. Elvis would only record this song once he was given the writer's credit.

Many artists of our generation don't write their own songs or rap lyrics.

Michael Jackson wrote most of his music. Elvis did not.

I see my #9 post is back up after it was initially censored--at least this is my impression. Whoever is responsible, if anyone, for seeing that my post is back up, I just want to thank you.

Thank you!

If the reason why it was missing in the first place is because it was censored by an mediator/administrator I hope that person is fired.

What is your point? That Elvis can't be talented because he wasn't black? In my country this is a racist remark. That he didn't acknowledge his black (or white) influences? If you had done some research you would have discovered this is a lie. He wasn't only influenced by black music however, he was very ecletic, loving also the semi opera of Mario Lanza, Dean Martin, as well as the gospel quartets of the time. So what if his first record was a Crudup one, it had to be by somebody. His second was Blue Moon of Kentucky, a country song.
Also Chuck Berry and Little Richard did NOT precede Elvis. They have acknowledged that he in fact opened the doors for them by making black music more known. BB King DID precede Elvis, and Elvis adored him. Unlike many others, Elvis always recognized his black influences, which makes it hard to understand why the black community hate him so much. Once at a press conference he pointed out Fats Domino, a friend of his, and said HE was the King of Rock and Roll.
"Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us.”Al Green
"Elvis was God-given, there's no other explanation. A Messiah comes around every few thousand years, and Elvis was it this time."Little Richard
“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.”Jackie Wilson
“I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at Graceland. We sang Old Blind Barnabus together, a gospel song. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother." James Brown

Next time do some research before posting stupidity.

John, look at the name of this forum.

I'm European, where a forum based on the colour of one's skin would not be allowed.

I find it very sad that in America after all these years people still think in racial terms. On my US visa application there was even a question asking what race I was! I was shocked. This would be unthinkable in Europe. I wrote "human race" and am still waiting for visa.

We are all human beings with strengths and weakness regardless of colour. Why is that so hard to accept?
