Why don't blacks value education?

It seems that black kids often ridicule and shun other black kids that do well academically. Why is this? Is this some kind of cultural thing that is handed down from generation to generation? Why would you guys make fun of one of your own for wanting to learn and better themselves?

Also I'd like to know why many blacks make fun of other blacks for speaking properly even going as far as to accuse them of trying to be white? Why wouldn't blacks want to learn how to speak English properly? It seems that Afican Americans are the only group of people that encourage their kids to be ignorant and place no value on education all in the name of "keeping it real". What are African Americans hoping to accomplish by encouraging their children to stay ignorant?

I value education very much, and I believe alot of other blacks do too. I believe when a black man or woman gets an education they should still be themselves. Alot of black men and women who become wealthy and start to mingle with different nationalities such as white they somehow change. Meaning they start to sound like somebody they are not. Acting white to me means you are trying to sound and dress like someone you are not and that to me is becoming white washed. If you came from the hood and you are now wealthy why change yourself to fit in with a bunch of people who would care less about you if you weren't wealthy. Thats just my personal opinion.

Maybe I should have clarified but my question was mainly addressed to African American slave descendants. Africans that immigrate from Africa have their own issues!

Unfortunately the family structure has broken down in the African American community. If most of these kids are being raised in single mother homes where the mother is working two jobs, the father is out of the picture, what else do you expect? Of course, not all Black American are like this, but ever since the breakdown of the family, negativity has followed.

Now, one thing you'll notice is that this is not a Black issue. It is an African American issue.

Many are not taught to value education because their parents did not value education.

So if a black person becomes wealthy and they make it out of the ghetto they should still get their clothes from Salvation Army and speak street slang in business meetings because doing otherwise means you're trying to be something you're not?? If they worked hard enough to become wealthy why can't they shop at Gucci or Armani and to be honest with you I'm not even sure what you mean by "dressing like someone you're not". There are some black people that were born and raised middle to upper middle class and they don't sound like the stereotypical blacks in the ghetto. Do you have a problem with them? Would you make fun of one of them and accuse them of trying to be white?

Back when I was in high school I remember a few black students who spoke properly and did well academically and most of the other black kids hated them with a passion! It was a real shame because I got to know them and they were very nice. They were beaten up and mercilessly harrassed by their own race. I thought it was really sad and always wondered how this affected how they felt about their race once they reached adulthood.

It's hard to value something they can't have. Also, blacks are naturally slower and less evolved than us, so t's hard for them to comprehend the importance of education.

Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard, no wonder you people are at the bottom of the barrel. A smart black kid in the ghetto gets his ass kicked if he shows any signs of intelligence. And what the hell does dressing like someone you are not mean. If you are ghetto and wear ghetto clothing and become rich you should continue to wear ghetto clothing. You and that type of thinking is the reason the black race is at the bottom. You live in San Jose, do you at like you would if you grew up in East LA.
What I am trying to say is be yourself even after you are wealthy. Is that so hard to understand.

I understand and agree with you about black kids in high school being rejected by their own. I for one was a good student with a 3.5 gpa. I had friends but most of my girlfriends were hispanic. I didnt really hang out with the black females because they always hated alot and I did not want to be part of that negative force but like I said if I did become wealthy I would not change for no body. Some people get rich and dog out the people who were their for them. They get fake friends who are only their because of their wealth and they forget where they came from. I think thats why black people get so upset at other blacks.

Many Black Americans don't value the crappy public education they are given because it sucks! If public education was worth a damn, it would be more appreciated.

So how about working hard and earning a scholarship to a better school? Did that seriously never occur to you? Nobody is just going to hand you things on a silver platter. There is a famous saying: nothing in this world is free. If you had gone to school, you just might have already known all this.

The question depend on what type of education one want to know. People can only speak from their own environment and not just things they have read about. Having been associated with many black from the places I been, they value education. Many have attended community colleges or trade schools. I have found out by following the media, they never report anything good about black people on negative stats. When reading this forum the racist people are always putting negative reports here.

You crackers know that you don't sent your kids to public schools because you know they suck! The U.S. school system is at the bottom of all industrialized nations. No wonder this country is going down the tubes. And all you guys can do is sit around and blame the victims.

Where I live, urban public schools are horrible. Their test scores show a direct correlation with pecentages of blacks. I'm not kidding. It's hard to teach a room full of kids who are eager to learn with you have 3-4 acting like jungle bunnies. And, of course, you can't separate those apes from kids who want to learn because that would be discrimination.
