Check out what the youth ages 14-25 have to say on the topic in my documentary light skin vs dark skin

i found your video interesting, and although im not american complxions issues still effect other blacks especially caribbeans. im 20 an i dnt think its an issue so much now, but maybe when i was younger like the late 90's early 2000's. but i dnt think its a thing that light skin get treated any different than darkskin, i think that its jus more of an issue of vainity, like people assume lightskin people on the whole are more attractive than darkskin, which is not true.
anyway thats my 2 cents i dnt kno if its differnt in america but i kno in other places thats how it is.
i also think we should move past this becuase every1 has their perseption of not only what dark, light, or medium skin but also of what is beautiful. every1 should jus accept a person and look past complexions coz its silly and it leads to self haters bleaching their skin and all sorts....smh mot good

Who are you to say "it's not true?" - it's a matter of opinion, so if they consider light skin people more attractive, then it's true for them.

who are u to argue with my statement...its not a scientific fact is it?.....right its subjective so u cant say that what i said is wrong beacause its my opinion the thread is whats your view,ie MY VIEW. I never claimed to be talking for anyone else did i...right thats using ur own logic, so dnt come at me wiv silly statements.
anyway its not true because anyone with a brain would tell u that complexion alone is not the basis of beauty therefore u cant say lightskin people are more attractive than darkskin or vice versa...
for me personally i could give a rats arse about complexion i think a persons features make them phsically attractive and that may include skin tone but it also includes the hape of the eyes nose and lips, the height, the wieght ect....a lighstin woman with a nose that is to big/wide for her face is just as ugly as the darkskin women who has wide nose for her face.

I was not arguing with your opinion, neither did i imply it was wrong. You said "people assume light skin is more attractive than dark skin, which is not true" - it may not be true for YOU, but it's true for them. I never said you didn't have a right to your opinion, i'm only saying people who find light skin more attractive than dark skin, have a right to their opinion to- without people like you jumping in to declare what YOU like or don't like, or why they are wrong.

Thanks for watching, I'm actually 19. I think its a really big issue its coming more to the light thanks to hip hop's stupidity. Specifically gucci man and his lemonade song. Red seems to be in style now a days

ok fair enough, i misunderstood your point. I could really careless about whether some has a preference for lightskin over darkskin or vice versa because at the end of the day im not trying to go out with a person who thinks im unattractive. i think is issue is silly anyway because i have had a relationship with some1 who thought darkskin was unattractive , despite the fact that i would class myself as darkskin; so i think people change their opinions on this issue when it suits them, ie. this topic aint so rigid.

i dnt jump in on people trying to argue with them on what they may find attractive, i may disagree but on the whole i dnt care and im not gonna losse any sleep if they find lighskin prettier than darkskin. i was just giving my opinion the the op asked for, not yours or any person who thinks lightskin is prettier but mine.

yh in that respect i completely agree, but at the end of the day, who are like gucci mane, maybe he is differnt to how he presents himself but him and rappers like him seem extremely ignorent, they seem like they never past secondary/high school and as a university/ college student that is not the type of guy im looking for. to be honest i my ex boyfreind held a few of those types of views and he was lighter skinned , well at least lighter than me but as a really smart guy who can think past stupid hiphop and media's agenda of saying darkskin arent as attractive as light skin he could still make up his own mind and see my beauty despite that i am darker than him.

u sed red seem to be the style nowadays looool i never think it went out of styles to be honest but what i o belive is that complexion "wars" [loool] shouldnt really ba an issue for eduacated people. an also i dnt think its that much of an issue in the black community around the world as much as places like maybe asia, as bleaching in our community, well at least in the caribbean in shunned and carried out in a minority and in asia alot of them do it.

i also think that its less about complexion and more about staright up race. alot of hip hop are using straight up white or white looking women, and i think the black look is no longer desired, so i believe its more to do with features and whether a person posesses features bout them that dnt look stereotypically black like pointy straight noses and straight long hair ect

Understood- but i do not think light skin is more attractive than dark skin...dark skin is just as beautiful, and is more unique out of the other colors- i was just trying to make a point, that people should be allowed to have their opinions in peace.

In 2011, more and more Black women are deciding to lighten their skin. Kojic Acid, Papaya soap, Glutathione, Licorice soap, raw African black soap are just a few products that are big sellers in the African American communities.

So much for Black power.

I think generally some people like light skinned people because for the most part they are mixed. Not all are, but most. Whether its Black & White, Black & Hispanic, Black & Asian... And anything else. Along with them being mixed comes different hair textures and types. Which believe it or not, alot of people are attracted to the soft curly hair and light brown skin combo. And some even have nice colored eyes. So i think those simple things are what make others a bit more attracted to the lightskinned. Not saying that dark skinned people dont also have those features, but its mostly a light skinned thing and its just what people like. I myself am Your typical light skinned with curly hair. Ive dated women that love my hair, skin and eyes. But, theyve also dated dark skinned people which they always have great things to say about. So in the end, its just all preference and features. Either way, i love me a sexy light brown woman. And I love me a Dark chocolate mami. They both work for me lol

We need to have a national discussion about the light skinned vs dark skinned not just with women, but with our men as well. There are issues and stereo types and people being very disrespectful simply for the color of their skin. It's hypocritical of us as a race to be racist within our own culture and I'm sick of it!

I guess we Whites have to take the heat for you blacks & your division over skin tone, because before we invaded mother Africa, enslaved you & shipped you here to America to pick our cotton & serve our every whim, want, need desire At the expense of your health, well being & very lives, all you African natives were black as tar with big bubba lips, large shovel like noses with huge flaring nostrils the size of tunnels, big bug eyes & big black bald heads but once you lustily gazed at our beautiful White women, than after you house kneegro females lusted after & mated with the White plantation owners, the division started when light skinned biracial babies came into being, the rest of your fractured black culture & history concerning the pride of self, irregardless of skin tone, hair grade or eye color is now fully self perpetrating by none other than yourselves.

You did not invade and enslave anyone on the continent, idiot. Africans sold africans to you. The colonization of africa did not evolve armed forces in most cases and the colonization in most cases did not last more than 100 years. Look at colonization of africa as creating spheres of influence and source of raw material except south africa where whitey tried to create a white country on africa and eventually failed.

Some Africans were sold but most were kidnapped. Africa is a huge continent. Millions of Africans ended up in America. You mean to tell me that they we were all actually sold? Not! Would you sell your children? Why was there a need to sell anybody when white people could have taken what they wanted? Africans didn't own guns. Young black healthy people filled with vitality were taken against their will. They were taken by white thuggish bullies. Old feeble people were not taken. These black thuggish American boys that are stirring up trouble are probably a lot like their thuggish white 8th great grandfathers. The majority of black Americans have white slave masters blood running through their vines.
