Cape Town – Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe says the forthcoming African Union summit should discuss the appointment of a president of Africa to foster unity among Africans, a report said on Wednesday.
Addressing journalists after meeting with President Thomas Boni Yayi of Benin in Harare, Mugabe said such a move "would also ensure that member states adhere to the founding principles of the continental body", Newsday online reported.
"Yes, we need a president for Africa," Mugabe said. "That is what we are going to discuss at the AU summit. Africa is not a united continent. We are not at the stage our founding fathers wanted us to be when the organ was formed."
Mugabe said the AU had failed to integrate Africans, with some seen in the context of Anglophones and others Francophones.
The proposal to set up a United States of Africa was first made by the slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 1999 as a way of ending the continent's conflicts, but it failed to secure enough support from his African counterparts with some suspecting Gaddafi wanted to rule Africa.
Yayi who is the outgoing AU chairperson said he was in Zimbabwe to discuss the challenges Africa was facing as a continent and to get advice on ways to end conflict, in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Central African Republic, among others.

St Clair County is Governed by the State of Illinois...NOT Africa...the people living there are Black Americans, NOT Africans...sorry.
Idiot, I was not talkiong about "governed". Up to now, this whole discussion has been about African Economic Development. My point is and has been that ties to Africa AND Asia could reap some serious benefits to ESL. The problem is idiots like you are too stupid to think clearly. And you create so much unnecessary noise that people like me canot think and plan a way out ofd the mess that whole region is in.

There are huge tracts of un-utilized land over there. I could make millions by rasing livestack on it for sale to China. 40% of the food eaten in Africa imported. Why not have Africans in America export to Africans in Africa? idiots like cannot think like that. That is the ONLY reason holding back progress.

I enjoyed my days out in Kirkwood until this peckawood pointed a shotgun at me...the fool couldn’t handle the fact that I got the best of him in front of his mates. Anyway I hightailed it the f..uck out...to think I caught three buses to get to work out there. I hate guns so I couldn’t bring myself to pack a fire arm..otherwise I would have lit him up.

How can Africa and Asia benefit ESL in the short term..label the benefits. By the time your benefits come to pass there will be no more BA’s living in ESL. Research how much food goes to waste globally..you talk about growing more food??

Most veggies in the UK don’t even make it to the supermarket...those veggies are left to rot. YOU on the other hand are into wasted labour by growing even more veggies yet it’s there for the taking..all that is required is an organised network and, it will also help our farmers...get me...maybe not.
