Prince was more known for his guitar skills, not vocal prowess, dumbazz. He is a pop singer with a pop singer's voice.

Ron Isley

the thing about prince is, I don't know if I really consider him to be a R&B/Soul Music guy. He's one of the top 3 greatest ARTISTS of the 80's next to michael jackson and whitney houston...but I wouldn't put him in the same musical category as some of the guys on my list just as I wouldn't put michael jackson on that list either.

Keith sweat is a very underrated guy. He had a buncha timeless hits and he's a legit soul singer. "make it last forever" "i want her" "my body" "twistin" "nobody", etc He's also the guy who gets credit for bringing in the new jack swing era in the 80's. New jack had a tremendous impact on R&B.

lionel richie gets a bad rap because some of his music lacked "edge"...but to me the guy was one of the most talented artists ever. From his commodore days to his solo career he had a great voice, countless hit songs and diversity to his style. In terms of sheer quality music that he put out, few could match him.

stevie and r-kelly is neck and neck. I mean, what can you say about stevie wonder...at least 3 of my 10 favorite soul songs of all time are by stevie (ribbon in the sky, overjoyed, golden lady). the reason i gave it to r-kelly is because, like stevie, he pushed the limits of r&b...but r took it a little further with "in the closet" the r&b opera. and some interesting projects like chocolate factory....plus the fact that he wrote and produced a lot more for some of the biggest names in hip hop and r&b.

i like jaheim...but to me, he's still just starting out. would you rank him higher than kem?
