In a certain regard, black men are no different than any other race of men, in that there exist factions within each race that are progressive forward thinkers and builders of communities and then, there are those who are parasitic, non contributors who diminish that which is built by others. The aforementioned group in each race always exist in a minority while the latter simply feeds off and benefits from the aforementioned efforts.
At the root of our issue is the fact that on a microscopic level, people know what is possible by the legacy left to them by their antecedents. In other words, if a specific group bequeaths to their descendants the tradition of creating wealth and erecting a fence around their community to keep the prosperity within, then each generation will almost automatically replicate this process.
And though, we as a collective, INTELLECTUALLY understand this concept, we have never had a sustained tradition over any protracted period of history in which we might characterize it as TRADITION; so we, in this country are absent of a HISTORICAL BLUEPRINT.
Secondly, a black community has to first exist in order for us to conceive of endeavoring on it's behalf or in it's best interest; and black communities no longer exist, only black neighborhoods! "Community" implies a cohesive mindset that gives birth to efforts from and on behalf of the collective good of it's respective denizens.
When we were mutually oppressed without gender distinction and economically segregated by fierce institutional racism that denied us the right to self determination; we worked together as an act of self preservation, but once the foot was lifted off our neck, there was a mad scramble for the door. We allowed ourselves to be defeated by the militant ideological forces of divide and conquer, to such an extent that we no longer recognize each other as having a common plight or sharing a common interest.
Which leaves those remaining BLACK MEN to think of themselves as US against THEM free agents, imbued with responsibilities only for those in their immediate care, left blind to a community that he has to spiritually squint his eyes in order to see. If there is to ever be any reconstitution of our communities it well have to come from the brave and unselfish few; who will have to create and demonstrate until others return to the fold.
And the sad part about all this is that we have it within our economic means to manifest a new reality if we ever put down the ideological weapons that were placed in our respective gender hands that keeps us separated into warring factions instead of functioning as a productive unit.
There are in fact many brothers who think and feel obligated to service the debt owed to our antecedents but are left staggered by the counter-prevailing winds of individualism, It's all about me-ism and gender-centrism. Posterity will not look upon us kindly at the hour in which we stand before her if there is no amelioration of our conditions.
as always, well stated. and with a good historical perspective. what was a community is now the individual. life is a game and those at the top are there cuz they better at playing it, while the bottom are better at being played.

the government has always been at war with the aa community. jim crow turned into the 'war on drugs' and mass incarceration, government programs and social engineering policies that destoyed the aa family, and the silencing of black leadership.

but much of what plagues the aa community, aa are complicit in. cuz the new game requires aa to participate in our own destruction.

my question is, where are the men? where are the thinkers planners and organizers? why does it seem like the entire community is in a collective daze? what's up with this generation of aa that doesn't seem to understand anythng?

The precise answer to your questions are probably best left to a think tank, but as an extension of my earlier comments, I surmise that when one is long separated "the men" from the spirit and the imperative to build communities for a couple of generations, we lose the know how and the impulse atrophy.

From where I stand the driving motivation for men behind such actions are twofold: 1) They are bequeathed a legacy by their fathers of duty, responsibility and honor and feel the spiritual obligation to do so; which we do not have because fathers have not been in the homes in wholesale numbers for two generations at best.

2) Women functions as a source of inspiration through their love, respect and support to compel men into action; which of course, this impetus is a casualty of our long standing gender civil war that has dulled our respective instinct to reciprocally love and care for each other.

And as far as our contemporary generation is concern, they are the orphans left to their devices without illustrative examples from their predecessors. They may eventually figure it out, but it would have been a lot easier for them if we, the older generation, had given them the schematic and the resources in which to build their generational edifice. None of us are exempt from blame.

Why is a think tank needed to evaluate your own groups social condition?

LOL! Hello Dreams...how are you? I never said that a think tank is needed, I said it was best left to them, in case one cared to have a more microscopic analysis at each junction along the space/ time continuum chronicling our journey from there to here. I rendered my analysis, but left the possibility open to others who may have a more detailed, insightful one. My presumptive arrogance only extends to the basketball court....or at least, it used to. lol

What is OBUMMA's professional background? He is a constitutional lawyer and should stick to constitutional law instead of delving into subject matters beyond his expertise.

That is why there is the U.S. Health and Welfare Department.

"Every typing finger" on this forum is hypercritical of generalizations until it comes to black men and for OBUMMA to say black men this or that is not only generalizations, it is stereotyping.

What does OBUMA know about African American men? His daddy was African and I don't appreciate projecting his personal problems onto African American men.

What debt to you believe is owed to your brothers because of their skin color? They wanted freedom, they have it. What more should they demand?

Anti-White racists won't be satisfied until Whites are either genocided or enslaved. You can't do enough for these hate-filled malcontents. When people learn that and stop listening to the crap they spew or whine we'll be much better off. Like a spoiled child who always gets their way, they keep pushing the envelope almost begging for a good old fasioned trip to the woodshed.

To My Precious and Beloved Black Family Members. Stop it completely! Why do you waste your/our time sparing with some evil possessed, self important, narrow minded and arrogant delusional back-alley white boy whose only relation to you is to judge you by his own false contrived opinion of himself and his kind when you can be in self assessment and initiating mental healing and recovery of our black identity and compassion toward each other. Look at yourself...way over/out yonder, lost in emotionalism, being lead off to slaughter by some stranger, by some worthless dialog that has zero benefit for YOU or US. Drop the going nowhere dead weight of the outsiders and refocus with an analytical spiritual mind-set of recovering, healing, educating and empowering our own extended family...now that's called mining "mind ing" your own business and that business is golden 'I shall add...try it, all it takes is courage and self-love.
