Tiger Woods interview on Oprah's show about not being black or AA and why:

And then Tiger Woods said he wasn't actually "black" at all -- he was "Cablinasian."

Woods made his remarks on "Oprah," when he was asked if it bothered him to be called an African-American. "It does," he said. "Growing up, I came up with this name: I'm a 'Cablinasian.'" As in Caucasian-black-Indian-Asian. Woods has a black father (or to be precise, if I am interpreting Woods' reported ancestry correctly, a half-black, one-quarter American Indian, one-quarter white father) and a Thai mother (or, with the same caveat, a half-Thai, half-Chinese mother). "I'm just who I am," Woods told Oprah Winfrey, "whoever you see in front of you."

But just "who I am" remained contested ground. According to Time magazine, Woods' coming out as a Cablinasian caused "a mini-racial firestorm ... Woods' remarks infuriated many African Americans who ... see him as a traitor ... Some blacks saw Woods' assertion of a multiracial identity as a sellout that could touch off an epidemic of 'passing.'" Light-skinned Colin Powell....

The interview and article goes on and on about it, you can read it here or possibly on Oprah's website:

Because it is disrespectful to half of his family at least. I don't understand why anybody would spend such an inordinate amount of time obsessing over the aspects of ones being they did not choose.

Also, it is extremely racist to care about any endeavor solely because someone the same color is doing it. Golf was the same game before Tiger, and should have generated the same interest among blacks as it did after his emergence. The whole phenom of blacks caring more about him is racist in and of itself.

Indeed, I have similar feelings about Obama being the president and being labled as an AA, when he has NO black relitives in the USA, and his OLNY family here were his white mother, and her parents.

I like this response:

Tiger is far ahead of his time in asserting that he does not need to deny any part of who he is or where he came from to satisfy others need for him to think and act a certain way just because of the color of his skin. He has received extended criticism from apartheidists that believe that the world should be 'seperate but equal' and not beautifully intertwined.

No doubt Tiger never forgot about the time when they didn't allow him on the course in Georgia because he was black, he just did not allow it to prevent him from honoring his mother, and his grandparents as well as his father. Tiger did not hang up his clubs when he faced adversity in Georgia and instead of giving up in the face of criticism and adversity Tiger has continued to prevent the world from defining for him what he can and cannot do, and what is and is not appropriate behavior for a person with his pigmentation. Tiger woods is the future.
Tiger woods is a cablinasian and not who you or I would like to tell him he should be. He invented the term to describe who he is and where he came from. He knows that it is not important for you understand what he means, as long as he does.

B/c in his mind his isn't. He obviously didn't have parents (his dad) that accepted having black ancestry & they passed that down to him. So he doesn't call himself black.

Tiger Woods comes from a Thai mother. His Father is Black, white and Native American. Genetically all living creatures are 50.1 percent their mother and 49.9 their father. He called it right.

The man was relating to the misnomer label African American. He includes the term black in his ethnic definition. All black individuals are not African and African is not synonymous with black. But many American try to make it so. Actually when most Americans say African, they are equating black with African. Thereby the misnomer. And the descendants of enslaved Africans are black Sub Sahara Africans, not simply Africans.

The term/classification of race is an artificial socially constructed definition promulgated in the 17th century.

Next, when various individuals start to attempt, to even discuss such a classification, they bring nationality and ethnicity and even continents into the mix, and then the issue becomes even more muddled. In the end, just still a can of worms, that highlights the point, that there is an alarming increase in the number of things most of have opinions and sentiments about but very little facts. And we all are entitled to our opinions, but not our 'own' facts.

In other words, the so called term race, nationality, ethnicity, and continent of origin are not synonymous and are not constant. Key words NOT CONSTANT. Unless viable discussions recognize this, then we are just voicing sentiments and opinions..not facts about so called "race mixing" its about mixing all of the four variables, race (whatever that definition is. Some use black and white) nationality, ethnicity and sometimes continent of origin. Bottom line. We need to move away from the artificial socially constructed label of race to more of an 'ethnonationality' classification of what is evolving as a global mix of individuals.

SO WHAT! HE DOES NOT HAVE TO CLAIM BLACK. HE HAS A CHOICE!

NOTE*** MY FATHER ALWAYS TOLD ME, JUST BECAUSE THE LAW SAY THEY ARE YOUR PEOPLE DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE FULL BLOODED AFRICANS!**

Let half breeds claim what they want! Let them be happy and stop telling them what they are! They have a choice and black might not be it!
