Why is this?

I will admit that at times the media shines a bad light on black males... but for the most part it is only on the news (drugs, crime, etc.)

In HOLLYWOOD the AA man is seen as the coolest, sexiest, most physically fit man. He is basically seen as the object of every woman's eye, when he is on top of his game. Even when he is portrayed as a thug he is still seen as at least cool.

In contrast, the AA woman is seen in one of three ways:

1. The women in Hollywood movies and television who are choosen to portray AA women are usually NOT AA. They are blatantly multiracial or latina.

2. AA women, if not played by multiracial/latina women are the "diva" Beyonce types. They have nose jobs, wear ridiculous weaves, are loud, mildly physically attractive, but aren't seen as WIFE material as women of other races are.

3. Black women are seen as heavy set, permed hair, bad fashion sense, and either asexual or hypersexual (even though no man shows interest in her.)

Why is Hollywood keeping stereotypes about BW alive, while uplifting BMs?

Why can't we see BW on screen who are true African Americans, who have natural hair, are in shape, and have more motivation than simply having sex with anyone and everyone?

I believe that Hollywood is attempting to systematically destroy the soul of the black female (it has already destroyed the image.)

Hollywood's excuse for casting black male stars (like Denzel and Will Smith) opposite latina and white women instead of black women, is that they will attract a broader audience.

This is a blatant lie. If the script is good enough people will see it. I've seen plenty of white folks in "black" films.

Perfect example... I don't know how many of you guys saw Black Dynamite, but it was pretty good/funny.

I couldn't help but notice, though, that his love interest was an extremely light skinned mulatto woman with a Euro looking nose, while all the hookers were played by black women.

I'm sick and tired of people making excuses.

Black women (and black men who care about us), when are we going to stand up and say enough is enough????

The first step to change is admitting that there exists a problem.

interesting points, i think the alpha male cool, sexual badboy stereotype although it may appear flattering, is often demeaning. generally black men are portrayed as "sexier" and your'e right, i don't understand why generally, so many black actresses are not working, now its too the point that when a black actor or actress is in a show, the love interest is non black, i just saw Gabby Union cast in some show , she is engaged to a Korean. im not knocking that, im just expressing that you hardly ever see an average black couple on tv.

I would love to see more brown skinned Black womeno on the screen, women that look like a great majority of Black women. But alas, even when the directors producers are Black, I don't see that much improvement, case in point Tyler Perry's films, the "hood" dramas, etc.

Oh, and before anyone says it... I realize that more black actresses COULD choose to not get nose jobs and wear weaves... but the fact of the matter is that if they were to all do that they would simply be replaced by biracial/latina women.

The root of the issue is that this is how Hollywood WANTS to portray black women. No one is forcing them.

It's way past time that we figure out their true agenda.

I personally believe it is to ensure that black women will be insecure and continue to fuel companies that exploit us... such as BET, MTV, black hair companies, skin bleaching companies, etc.

The Black Woman is the opposite of the white man, who is the leader of the society we live in.

It seems that we are being targeted for exploitation because we have no one to protect us.

Are we brave enough to do anything about it?

You are lat dear bw have already been replaced by latinas like zoe saldona, rosario dawson, and christina millian. And these women only claim black because they are not accepted by their own community so once again black people have to accept rejects from other races.

WW BM couples are pushed in Hollywood. I don't know why. Who cares? It obviously doesn't work. People will have their own opinions. Look at me. I don't need the media to get a WM.

I disagree about BET and MTV. Mostly white kids watch this and all of the women in the videos are black. Sometimes latina. So I think that is good. Why do you think it is bad?

People can knock Tyler Perry all you want. But he is the only avenue at the moment that actually shows Black relationships on the big screen. Why'd I get married too opened with about 30 mil in sales. So that does show that the public is willing to support a "black" movie. If they like the script.

I don't want to make it a contest to see who is shown in a better light. I don't believe that Black males are constantly being promoted.

Every single movie where the president is Black. The Earth Blows up. What part of the game is that?
Denzel gets an Oscar for playing a corrupt cop. Oh Yeah. He dies.
Will Smith plays an insane good Samaritan in seven pounds. Boring movie. Oh Yeah. He dies.

The only Black male actors I actually like are Don Cheadle, Forrest Whitaker, and I'm starting to like chiwetel ejiofor. None of these guys are sex symbols.

I will say that I have noticed more Black Actresses on TV and Movies. But the price of admission is that they must be with a White Partner. There does seem to always be one caveat for the "privilege" for being in a movie.

I was behind Sanaa Lathan. But it seems that she keeps repeating the same role as black mistress to white man over and over again. Zoe Saladana who is Dominican. But she calls her self Black-Latina. She doesn't ever seem to be opposite of dark male character.

The only Bankable Black Actress is Queen Latifah. She is in a new movie coming out this year.

You need to stop playing the victim every chance you get and go find a life. If you had one, you might see how true most of the things you deny here really are.

If the media clearly has a problem with something black, it's partnering an AAM with a WW in a truly romantic relationship. As you state, this happens all the time with WM and BW, but I guess WM in hollywood can't get past their insecurities. This is so blatant and people have complained about it before. In the movie "Hitch", they replaced Cameron Diaz with Eva Mendes due to racial concerns. smh. And of course they just couldn't show Will Smith kissing Charlize Theron in Hancock..smh.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2002/jul/06/ge...

But you know nothing is likely to change anytime soon when WM freakout over a kiss.

Zoe Saldana is a typical mullatto dominican. She is not black at all and real black women should be insulted by her taking roles from black women. This is why black women get no respect because we have no values and will accept anything as a black woman.

I wish hollywood would hire more beautiful black women like Joy Bryant instead of latino rejects like zoe saldana and christina millian.

Nothing is wrong with Zoe she is a talented young black woman yes she is black. Christina Millian is hardly around nowadays.

I do like Joy Bryant but she has to have the acting chops to get the roles but have notice that the white media doesn't like putting too many young slim beautiful black women on tv unless they are light skin or biracial.

Well, the media says one thing and reality says something else. I think black men are the ugliest there is.
