Puerto ricans and blacks have lived side by side in nyc for 60+ years creating hip hop together, political movements and suffering at the hands of the same oppresion. It isnt uncommon to have one another as family members. I dont know about elsewhere but here in nyc we dont have the problems i keep reading. Im sure there are some issues but its not widespread and we usually roll together because ny is based on neighborhoods boroughs and projects.

Sorry that was your personal experience but the larger picture in nyc says different. I can always find contrarian facts but speaking in general this isnt the rest of the country. In fact here more so than anywhere else there aint a real conflict.

Those are mexicans that are being attacked. Puerto ricans and dominicnans have robbed and attacked mexicans as well. Mexicans dont like afro latinos, but afro latinos and AA's get along mainly, especially with puerto ricans (historically).

Whatever they mix with they tend to hook up alot with blacks more then any other latino or hispanic group. Mexican do to but undehand and keep a mexican wife but PR actually date openly. Probably due to closer links.

Off topic: I notice alot of arab tryna pass as PRs, maybe not pass but swagger jacking of AAs and trying to resemble PRs

Maybe cuz Mexican bring a different mindset as of migrating from the West Coast where they war and hate AA's. PRs take it almost as offensive to call them Mexicans then Black.

Based on extensive personal experience and the extensive experience of my family I'm forced to disagree.

If you take that approach what ethnic groups can you consider close? There technically would be none because the differences would always be highlighted instead of the similarites. Brianiac will superimpose his expierences and others will do the same. They are not wrong just biased and i guess there is nothing wrong with that either.

Ricans have manners and they sound sexy wen dey talk, plus they know how to party like us Black ppl. Its so much chemistry between Blacks n Ricans, intellectual, sexual, spiritual, and cultural just to name a few. We all were and still are beat down and now that ppl see we have understanding and love for each other they get really upset. It seem like wateva ppl take from us, we Blacks and Ricans turn the negative to a positive. Realness attracts realness is the only way to sum it up I guess.

Many of us look alike, especially light skin blacks, and Puerto Ricans. I knew two black women who were from Puerto Rico. I did a project on Roberto Climente when I was in middle school, and my god mother, who was from Loiza helped me on it. For some reason, I never asked where she came from, but when I told her what my project was on, she told me she was from Puerto Rico, I was like what? She was beautiful, chocolate, had hair down her back, kinky long hair, I always admired that her hair was natural and very long to her butt. We did a black history play and she said that many Puerto Ricans had African roots, but their is a stigma to it on the island, she saw herself as black. I also had another friend who was from their, I thought she was a light skin black girl, but she was Puerto Rican, she was the second one I met. I said are their blacks on the island, she said hell yeah. I asked her was she mixed, she said black/native/spanish, she thought of herself a a mixed Puerto Rican, and she got beautiful, got kicked out of middle school. Another girl I new use to argue with Puerto Ricans at my school, because her dad was a Black Puerto Rican and her mother was Italian, she told the Ricans that they were mixed with African, they went crazy, and a full Rican said her grandomother was black, the other ones got mad because she said that. Some will tell you they are part black or that they are black rican, but some want, but they were cooler than the Dominicans, they do not like saying they have any black in them. They called themselves Indian or Indio, which is a not the full story. I can pass for a Dominican, I have the same mix as them, but Im Black American. Black and Ricans share African rhythm and other things in common, so we have common ground. Many are nice people, they were much nicer than the Dominican, and they mostly were proud of their African roots.
Ppl think I'm Rican or Cuban cuz I'm lighter skinned and have natural hair. I also love to Latin dance and salsa music. I was raised around different ppl from around the world and I take a piece of their culture with me so ppl spend lots of time guessing wat I am and r surprised to know I'm Afro American wit a rainbow blood line. That just shows how all ppl of color r similar, if they can see themselves in another person wit a different cultural background. I love my ppl.

They are not trying to resemble Puerto Ricans. I have seen men from Yemen who are thought were Puerto Ricans, until they told me they were not. I have also seen Puerto Ricans that look Arab.

The tribes of Ephraim and Judah. These are the Taino people and the Israelite slaves from Africa. This is why we get along. Things go much further back than you can imagine. Read a book or two. I am a Taino/ black mixed woman, with a black man. Our similarities are due to the fact that we come from the 12 tribes of Israel. This is why we struggle the same, live in the same projects, are looked down upon by white people. This is why we both were taken cultures. There's more but I shouldn't get into it.
