I eat things like lentils, quinoa, spinach, and almonds for protein just to name a few :) and I also eat orgqnic nut butters or even incorporate them into recipes and smoothies. Flax seeds (milled) also helps me to get in omega-3's :)

Yeah, gluten isn't good for anybody. Gluten is latin for "glue" so when digested, it literally sticks to the lining of your intestines causing many known health problems like constipation, IBS, hemorrhoids, ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, etc. Don't get me wrong, I do eat breads and pastas, but I purchase organic/gluten free types. I also eat these in moderation :)

Muhammara

This is a dip/spread with great complex flavors and nutrition!

3 large red bell peppers (roasted)
4 cups of walnuts (soaked for 8 hours)
1 tsp. of cumin
2 Tlbs. of lemon juice
1/4 tsp. of lemon zest
3 Tlbs. of olive oil
1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper or pepper flakes
kosher salt & black pepper (to taste)

In a food processor, add the soaked walnuts first, and blend until crumbly. Then add your roasted bell peppers and the rest of the ingredients. Blend until smooth. Season to taste, stir well, and chill in refrigerator before serving. Enjoy!

-You can toast your walnuts before you soak them for a more earthly and robust taste!

-Use a dehydrator for the bell peppers to make this dip completely raw vegan :)

Yeah lol I do shop at my local health food store :) they have next to everything I need! The prices are a bit expensive, but my health is worth all the money in the world, just like yours is too _jaz_:) I can tell people that even if you're not a vegan/vegetarian, always try your best to take care of
yourself the best way you know how :)

Don't worry about what that racist said. Racist bigots post on the AA forum because they get to say things here that they would not have the courage to say off the internet.

Also, racist bigots post here because they want the attention that they know they will get from most people here. I typically ignore them, and I just keep talking to non-racist. Don't give racist bigots the attention they want.

I don't mind spending a little more money for quality healthy foods. I try to buy organic produce as much as possible, and I try to primarily eat whole foods instead of highly processed foods.

I don't spend money on junk foods (sweets, snacks, etc.), and I don't eat at restaurants. The money I save by not doing those things helps me to afford to buy healthier foods.

Also, I would much rather spend a little more money buying healthy foods now than to have to spend a lot of money later for medications. Medications are necessary sometimes, but if I can stay healthy and avoid having to be on medication I would rather do that.

I use to eat a lot of brown rice, until I heard that rice has a lot of arsenic in it. Now I don't eat as much rice as a I use to. I want to add quinoa to my diet because I've heard some good things about that in regards to its protein content.

I've also added avocados to my diet as a source of healthy fats.
Coconut oil is suppose to be good too, I hear.

I agree 100% with you. Just like today I bought a jar of local organic honey for $20 because I know what they do to the commercially bought honey, they mix some with sugar to increase the volume. I hate being sick and I hate going to the doctor, so thats why my health is my #1 priority. I'm not an "American" statistic.

I first heard about arsenic in rice about a month ago. It was on the news for awhile, and Consumer Reports magazine had an article about it: http://www.forbes.com/sites/daniellegould/201...

I've been hearing a lot of good things about coconut oil. I plan to make it a regular part of my diet, and I am going to try it on my skin too. I am trying to get away from using lotions that have a lot of chemicals in them.

I'm not sure if it is the best or not, but I buy an organic raw honey. I don't use a lot of honey, but I've heard that it has some healthful benefits. You are right about most commercially bought honey being mixed with sugar.

I'm fortunate because so far I've only had to go to the doctor for regular check ups (yearly physical - prostate exam, etc.), dental check up, eye exam, colonoscopy, etc.). I always get a clean bill of health, and I have not had to be put on any medication.

It is all about taking care of ourselves mind, body, and spirit.
Eating healthy, exercising, and stress management is key. A positive attitude helps too.

I was thinking the same thing about buying 2 jars of coconut oil, one for cooking, putting in smoothies, etc. and another for using on my skin, etc.

I've seen Barleans products. I'll have to check out their coconut oil.
