I am a black woman who was raised in a predominantly white neighborhood in Texas as a child. When I went to school I was ususally the only black girl in my class. In 2nd grade I moved to another state that was more integrated. I was actually very excited about this because there were more kids that looked like me and I was looking forward to making friends with the black kids.

Well the reception from the black kids was not warm or welcoming...at all! They all hated me because due to my growing up in mostly white neighborhoods, I guess I adapted to a 'white' way of speaking. The black kids particularly the black females were merciless and relentless in their taunting and teasing of me. This continued right on through high school and I had very few black friends.

I was never actually physically attacked by the black girls but the verbal abuse and threats that I received on a daily basis really made me develop a dislike, distrust and fear of any black woman that was not a part of my family.

These days I'm out of high school and college but I still find that no matter how kind, polite and respectful I am to black women that I meet they seem to automatically hate me. They always give me evil stares, make catty comments about me and make it very clear that they don't like me and don't want anything to do with me. Why are so many black women so angry and unfriendly and hyper aggressive? Why does it seem like so many black women are unaccepting of anyone that is different from them? I genuinely want to know because I truly can't figure out what I may be doing wrong when meeting other black women.

I posted something about this before. I went through hell too, but I can tell you what you are doing wrong. You arent like them and they think that you are trying to be "better then them". Also, black men and also non-black men are more attracted to black woman who have individuality and that makes the mean ones jealous. Dont kiss their ass and let them know you arent going to take their shit. This is coming from some who is not excepted by most black women. For some reason many want you to be firm and talk shit to them. That is what initiates you, I guess. lol. I listen to rock, dress like a punk rocker, and dont give a damn what people have to say. Just do your own thing and ignore them. If they cant except you for who you, then they dont deserve to be your friend. Let them live in their box while you put your head up and laugh at them.

All women are mean. lol. It sounds like a combination of cattiness and jealousy. Women of all races are like that sometimes. Some of the black women who are mean to u might think u try to act white or are a sellout. My advice......ignore it

You don't have to be a lesbian to want simple female comradeship...

I know that but from the outside. It seems that all women have some sort of kinship with each other. So either she really is doing something to turn them off, or she is trying to pick them up.

Very true. It helps to have girl friends to club with and go to the nail shop with. Share recipes and ideas. It sucks to alone

Well I'm definately not a lesbian! I have nothing against lesbians but I love men! And despite what I've been through I've never been anything other than polite and respectful to black women that I meet but still they are just plain mean to me.

I relate to what you posted. Hsving grown up in white neighborhoods and having mostly white friends I have listened to rock music my whole life! I grew up listening to Duran Duran, Van Halen, The Human League and other popular rock/new wave bands of that time! For some reason a lot of blacks are really closed minded when it comes to music that isn't rap or hip-hop or gospel. I listen to everything but when black women hear that I like and prefer rock to rap or hip-hop they use this as another opportunity to ridicule me and exclude me.

I went through the same thing in the 7th grade. I've always been really sweet and kind, and in the 7th grade, I was taunted by a black girl and a Hispanic girl. They started off being friendly to me, inviting me to go places with them. Then, they changed... They stole my money daily, made me buy them lunch daily, cut my hair, hit me. And it kinda messed my life up, because now I'm 18 and I don't have any friends because I can't trust anyone.

I agree that other races have mean, judgemental people as well but for me the only group of people that have really gone out of their way to treat me like crap is black females. It's disturbing for me because I'm in my early 30's and have never been able to make friends with a black woman. At this point in my life I noticed that people tend to stick to their own race when it comes to making friends even more so than when you're in your 20's. I'd really like a female friend of my own race. I do have some white girl friends but it's different when you have someone of your own race to relate to.

Maybe you should re-evaluate the people you try to make friends with. Maybe you will find it was the person and not their race that caused them to act that way.

That's interesting. I dated White guys and listened to nothing but rock music throughout middle and high school, but I never had a problem making friends with Black girls. Maybe it wasn't the music that you were listening to, perhaps it was the way you carried yourself or the way you acted that initiated the response you received from your Black peers.

It's all part of school yard bullying. Everyone's insecure at that age and test people. Adults do it a little more subtle than kids. It's not worth worry about, just brush off your shoulders and keep stepping since it is obviously their problem and not yours.
