Optimism of whites in US lags blacks by big margin

Aug 1, 2013 Full story: Log Cabin Democrat 2,746

Americans' attitudes about their economic future are sharply divided by race, with whites significantly less likely than blacks or Hispanics to think they can improve their own standard of living.

IMO the election of the first African American President gives minorities a renewed optimism about the future of the country, and thatís a good thing. The country as a whole is better off today than we were in 2008 when the economy crashed; but we are still slogging through trying to come out to a strong and growing economy.

IMO the election of the first half white American president has given minorities more optimism about becoming more dependent on government programs, living on the federal government plantation and breaking our immigration laws, and that's not a good thing - for us or them.

Wow. That is some straight up media fed BS.

This is not a recovery, It is a manipulation of interest rates. An interest rate bubble. A bubble to replaced the crashed Housing bubble.

Historically, the interest rates on 10 year treasury notes is 6-8%. Presently they are at 2.58%.

In 1990, 10yr Treasury rate was 8-9%, then 6% in 2000.

With artifically lowering the bond rates, it makes it cheaper for government to borrow more money saddling more debt onto us the people.

As soon as these rates go up, and they will, it's "game over man".

Unemployment numbers, GDP numbers, Inflation Numbers, none of them mean shit. 10yr bond interest rates dictate everything. And when Osama Ben Bernanke came out a couple of weeks ago and said the flow of money from QE+ Infinity may be tailed back, bbond rates went up to 2.8% and the market crashed.

There is a pending crash coming. And when it does, it will be nasty.

The interest rate bubble is not a recovery, but, a cover up of the true failures of our monetary and economic policies.

If you think that your insulting views of every minority Obama supporter being on welfare, looking for handouts or just a degenerate taker is somehow based in fact or is conducive to attracting minority voters to your way of thinking or supporting Republican candidates then you are sadly mistaken.
It is time for those of you on the right to let go of your bigotry and racist thinking about minorities; if you donít then you will continue to push moderate Republicans like me out of the Party and we will not be winning very many elections for a very long time.

Too many people are living off of others.

The Afrocentric excuses of blaming black on black actions, violence on the old white racists is infantile and does not advance the black race.

It's the mantra: the abused become abusers.

Blacks were beaten so that's why they act out.

Blacks had things stolen from them (their lives, land, jobs, etc) so they are stealing from others.

That imprint is ridiculous in this day in age.

Grow up and advance your race.

Value education.

Live by rules that the rest of the people in the world do.

Model yourself after asians, if you don't want to model yourself after caucasians.

Advance your race, instead of making EXCUSES!

Whites had too much confidence in Pres Obama. Now they know he has no interest in doing positive things for America which will have a terrible impact on their children. it is very disheartening. Blacks are happier because they only look at skin tone.

I wish I could say that I think things are getting better but there not. The truth is Obama has taken this country on the kind of decline that I didn't think was possible. The problem is as I see it he is to dumb to realize that once this country is destroyed it won't come back. I suspect he will go down in our history as the the worst President who ever held the office.

The economic problems in the US are primarily affected by govt. interference. The housing bubble was caused by progressive programs. The interest rate is creeping up which will slow the sluggish sales in the housing industry. oscuma is an idiot and divisive. He has stirred up racial tensions and spent us into oblivion. We are heading for disaster. I'm not sure why people don't realize what is going to happen when the interest rate goes up on the loans. These idots in control spent money without even knowing if their lame brain ideas would work. The only way this country will survive this crash is to pull the plug on govt. spending and get out of the way of enterprise.

Such sad news to America-haters:

U.S. auto sales sizzle in first half of 2013

Auto sales in the first half of 2013

DETROIT -- Three years ago, U.S. car buyers started trickling back into showrooms after largely sitting out the recession. That trickle has turned into a flood.

From owners of revitalized small businesses that need to replace aging pickups to new hires who need a fresh set of wheels for the daily commute, increasingly confident buyers pushed auto sales back to pre-recession levels in the first six months of this year. Sales in the January-June period topped 7.8 million, their best first half since 2007, according to Autodata Corp. and Ward's AutoInfoBank. Automakers reported June sales Tuesday. They rose 9 percent to 1.4 million.

The outlook for the rest of 2013 is just as strong. The factors boosting sales -- low interest rates, wider credit availability, rising home construction and hot new vehicles -- will be around for a while, and experts are hard-pressed for answers when asked what could slow things down.

"It all points to continuing improvement in the auto market," said Mustafa Mohatarem, General Motors' chief economist.

Analysts expect total sales of around 15.5 million cars and trucks in 2013, which would be 1 million more than in 2012. New cars and trucks sold at an annualized rate of 15.96 million in June, the fastest monthly pace since December 2007.

Demand for big pickups has been the driving force. GM, Ford and Chrysler sold 157,480 full-size pickup trucks combined in June. That's up around 25 percent from the same month a year ago and almost double the number the companies sold in June 2009, a year when total sales sank to a 30-year low. GM said its new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, which went on sale last month, are spending just 10 days on dealer lots before being sold. A 60-day stay is typical.

Auto executives said they're not too concerned about recent upticks in loan rates, because there are so many other positive factors encouraging buyers. Ford's U.S. sales chief, Ken Czubay, pointed out that there are still 4 million pickups on the road that are 12 years old or older and will likely need to be replaced soon.

?? How quickly you forgot bush. Perhaps you forgot the attacks on 9/11 and how bush quickly said he wasn't interested in that.

There is a minor improvement over bush, but not much. Obama keeps bush's policies in place, keeps bush appointments in office, and generally has refused to change anything bush was doing. While it can easily be argued that Obama is a lot better than McCain and Romney, he has not acted to stem the conservative tide of attacks on the middle class. Of course he has to appease the corporations and they won't allow anything of significance to change. They have become drunk on the power and wealth they have stolen from us; and they won't stop till they have everything. We have seen this same decline going on for over 30 years now, and you are just starting to recognize it?
