You say paucity, I say dexterity; distinctions along the same continuum if employed in a similar context. Once again, I saw little or no evidence of this copious disparity in terms of linguistic dexterity when amongst the Brits. I never heard a word or a phrase, save for idiomatic colloquialisms, in the UK that I had not previously heard before here in the US. Besides, what you are alluding to is "STYLE" not superior substance, since the purpose of COMMUNICATIONS is to achieve clarity and understanding, and once one have achieved this end, the rest is superfluous....or gratuitous if it suits your English sensibilities better!
