Hey ladies. I keep desiring to have long beautiful dreads that cascade down my back but the problem is, I have almost shoulder length relaxed hair. I want to go natural but I don't wanna cut my hair off. Does anyone know any methods (besides transitioning) like any chemical strippers that I can use in my hair to make it go natural. If there arn't any then I'm gonna be stuck.

I just started letting my perm grow out because I want dreads. A locktician told me it would take at least six months for the entire chemical to grow out of my hair. That may seem like a long time but the look I want will be worth it in the end.
I've heard of getting a dread perm which will actually strip the entire perm chemical out of your hair but I went on dreadhead.com blogs and a few people said it thinned their dreads out and started breakage and they ended up having to start over, that process is like $300+. Check out knappyheads.com and educate yourself before you do something drastic.

Good Luck!

I think the sites are bad but still try
knottydreads.com
dreadlocksHQ.com
dreads.com

Whether the links work or not still look deep. I don't have all the correct links in this pc but have fun.

My job won't let me view certain links, so I check out what you have when I get home tonight.

What if you're not dreading but just want to grow out a texturizer, is the process basically the same?

Thanks for that info!

I'm tempted to do that but I just keep picturing my hair falling out. It took me too long to grow it to a nice length. I just want to feel more afrocentric by having my hair natural.

Me?

I recall you gave me a really helpful link about stretching my hair between processes. Thanks for that. I've decided to grow out my hair cause the maintainence was too much and the lady out here doesn't have a clue to what she is doing-that's why I had to cut all my hair off!

My stylist, back East, said that my hair doesn't need a chemical and to grow it out this fall-but I'm not feeling paying the lady (out here) anymore money than I have to, so I'm starting a little earlier than fall. I just want to ensure that I keep it moisturized and healthy so it will grow back to my sholder length. Any more tips?

heck both of you :) even I'm transitioning.
Let me give you some tips
1. Cowashing ( using conditioner with silicones, petroleum jelly, mineral oil to "wash" your hair) is very moisturizing. So i co wash with burt's bee more brazil nut & raspberry moisture conditioner, about every day.
2. Shampoo, while co washing is good for everyday maintence, I still wash with shampoo once a week. I use a natural shampoo without sulfates. Once a month or every 2-3 months you will have to clariy
3. Moisturizing, I use diluted giovanni direct leave in conditioner and seal with castor oil everyday to do my braid outs..or the Alma and Olive Heavy cream qhemetbiologics.com to moisturize on wet hair.
4. Deep conditioning is very important..once again I use an all natural conditioner from Aubrey Organics, the Honeysuckle Rose Moisturizing Conditioner and seal with the qhemetbiologics.com Honey and Olive balm, before shampooing once a week.

Yep! Your good thou, because at least with the tex in your hair your already half way there as for a perm, it's much stronger and harder to get rid of,unless you cut it off.

There is no way to reverse a perm. To have your hair completely natural, you have to grow it out and cut off the perm.

Braid your hair until it's long enough to wear it out, usually about two years. Braids are a natural hairstyle too.

It takes LOTS of patience.

I wonder which one of the many haters this one is. It won't be long before his/her account is deleted for using a members pic.
