Under the Section 8 federal housing voucher program, thousands of poor, urban and often African-American residents have left hardscrabble neighborhoods in the nation’s largest cities and resettled in the suburbs.

Law enforcement experts and housing researchers argue that rising crime rates follow Section 8 recipients to their new homes, while other experts discount any direct link and think racism may be playing a factor. Read the story of one town Antioch CA. by clicking the link below:

Aint it the truth I live in Edina Minnesota an affluent suburb of Minneapolis. And they have slowly started to move intercity people into the community however keeping them segregrated to two housing projects. Even with section 8 certificates the rent here is too high for them to use a secion 8 certificate. However just these two secluded areas where they are housing them has brought up the crime rate significantly.

Also some years back Minneapolis closed the North Minneapolis Projects. They gave section 8 certificates to all the residents of that project. About 80% of them moved out to Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park Minnesota. Also pretty nice suburbs of Minneapolis. But not as affluent as Edina. Well now Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park are newly made "PROJECTS" the crime is awful. They deal drugs right in the parking lots of the buildings that were once really nice buildings. They shoot and kill each other in the street there. It is awful. Brooklyn Park did not keep the section 8's segregated like Edina does because they rents were not as high. Section 8 covered the rents there. I think that Edina is going to weed out these two projects here and use it for commercial use and take back our community before it gets real bad here. No bad these people can not act normal and be part of a nice community but it is something they never learned and it is too late now for them as adults. We can only hope the new generation will do alot better in raising their children. To be normal functioning human beings.

You can see where I live now and I don't think Sect 8 can be linked to race really. Down here the majority of residents in Low Income/Subsidized/Sect 8 housing are white. It depends on the demographics of the area. Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the US so it's housing assistance programs are extremely active and heavily utilized. In Cleveland where I'm from the majority of the Metro area is black making blacks the largest group of recipients. I don't claim to know a lot about it all though.

Funny no one wants to talk about this issue on here. I would assume an extremely large number of the people that post on here are in section 8 housing. Therefore they know I am exactly right in what I am writing about section 8 recipients. And I would think that in Phoenix if the section 8 statistics are actually more white than black. That is not true in fact they are listed as "White head of Household" because the woman with the black children and black men are the one's applying for it. Thus the white figures. It is the same with the census. A white woman head of household can have 10 black children and the entire household is listed as "WHITE". Not a clear or true account by a long shot.

I don't care what noone says it it dead wrong to send poor ghettofied folks to nice middle class suburbs because all they do is bring them down. Right now I am in the process of looking at homes to buy but I may end up passing up on houses for condos or townhouse. And that is because homeowners can rent to anyone they want too but certian condo areas will not allow the ghetto folks to ruin thier buildings.

Of course I do. Show me where I am wrong. My friends husband works for the census bureau and is the one that told me about the f--ked up statistics concerning the census and the section 8 program. He says it is racism at it's finest with the census bureau refusing to list a household in actual statistic than on the race of the head of household. He said that the 10 black children are missed counted as white in the statistics. Also if a black man heads the household with a white white and her 10 kids guess what the entire household is listed as black even though the wife and her 10 kids not by him are all white. Does that make sense? I don't thinks so..LMAO

I think you make some very valid points, yet also believe that some of your thoughts may be skewed as to the reality of WHY this condition (of crime) follows such a program (as section-8).

As a program that *appears* to offer relief and help, it is actually no more than one of many State instituted devices to 1) help fund the state, 2) keep the poor utterly dependent upon the state, and 3) ensure that the disadvantaged stay pre-occupied with enough utter BS, so that they do not even care enough to secure any type of control over their own well-being.

At the core, it isn't that the "poor" haven't learned HOW to behave cordially and fit in. And as long as we ONLY have hope for our children, it is inevitable that they will follow and continue in this same pattern. Sadly, even many children who have parents that have nothing but the best intentions, and are positive role models, will suffer this same fate.

Back at the core, it is the lack of ownership and the lack of knowledge (and/or greed/selfishness) that has perpetuated this continuing problem. It does no good (for the poor) to accept such a program without realistically understanding its long-term consequences.

For the state (and the beneficiaries) of such a program, it's an *easy* fix to a continual source of funding, as well as a well thought-out plot to take over inner-cities, rebuild them, and save gas by eliminating the long commutes back and forth.
