Professor: Sean Bell Killing Part of National Trend
The nation waited Friday for a verdict in the 2006 police shooting for Sean Bell. Delores Jones-Brown of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice says the New York case has drawn national attention because it's part of a larger pattern of police shooting unarmed suspects.

Minister Louis Farrakhan
Justifiable Homicide: Black youth in peril -part 1 by Minister Louis Farrakhan I want Black youth to hear this message, because police authorities are the same today as they were during slavery. Police authorities are trained to kill, as well as to protect. But where Black people are concerned, police legitimize their mob attacks under the name of “back up.” Police back up is often no different than the lynch mobs 100 years ago. |

Wow a Farrakhan quote? He's as Hitlerish as Hitler and uh...Mugabe and many others. I don't care what Farrakhan has to say.
~~~~~Ford Heights & Zimbabwe; different? |
Who has Farrakhan killed as a result of his beliefs, no one yet you are willing to compare him with Hitler because he doesn't like Jews. Or is it his views on abortion gay marriage. If your as conservative as I think you probably be surprised that you agree on both issues. Louis Farrakhan is a Black Separatist not a Ugenist Genocidal mass murderer.
Uh, just a thought, maybe if he hadn't tried to kill those officers with his car and just stopped when they told him to stop they wouldn't have shot him, ever think of that? Of course not, no, if they had been killed by this thug it would have been no big deal right? Cops are killed by thugs all the time, where is the outrage over that? I'm glad these officers decided to defend their lives.
Of course I've "thought of that". That legally doesn't justify a damn thing. The LAW states that there is no justification for shooting when an individual is using a vehicle as a weapon especially within a close distance of the officer. That's police policy and police policy for a reason. Additionally, they were PLAIN CLOTHES officers. I don't understand what crackas don't understand about that. It's dark. The windows of the cars were found up, they were in plain clothes. A guy in plain clothes comes to your car with a gun in the middle of the night, your first instict is to attempt to ram them or get away, or atleast that's what it should be. It was CRIMINALLY IRRESPONSABLE and NEGLEGENT for these officers to act the way they did in the first place. THEN 50 bullets? 31 from the first officer? Thats THREE DAMN RELOADS! NOT ONE SHOT FIRED BACK. That extends the case from irresponsable to CLOLD-BLOODED murder. It's rediculous that we live in a nation now where you have to risk "stopping" for people in plain clothes with guns so your not gunned down by trigger happy police. The verdict was rediculous, this whole case is rediculous, the people trying to justify this sound insane. There is NO justification for this. NONE. "Give up your rights when we say so, even if your don't know that we're police, or we'll kill you" |
1 you can edit, share it and send it to the applicable: the first letter to Commissioner Kelly: New York Police Department Office of the Commissioner One Police Plaza New York NY 10038 Your Name Address City State Zip Commissioner Raymond Kelly, I am writing to you as a citizen of the state of _____. Like many across the country, I have been following the Sean Bell case and eagerly awaiting what I was sure would be a fair and just verdict in the case against Officers Oliver, Cooper and Isnora. I am sad to say that, in my opinion, this was not at all the case. I am aware that the position of a police officer is one that carries with it great stress, a need for quick thinking and not nearly as much respect as it deserves. However, in Sean Bells case, this was a gross abuse of power and excessive force. As a citizen of the United States, I am outraged at the verdict handed down in the case of Sean Bell. I am equally outraged with time and time again hearing of abuses such as this coming from a police force you oversee. I understand that you cannot overturn the verdict. However, I implore you to take immediate action. These officers, along with Officers Headly and Carey, need to be dismissed from their posts. The change in training that officers receive has been noted, but is it enough? Are we due for another outrageous show of violence at the hands of your officers in the near future? I truly hope that is not the case. These acts within your ranks cannot be erased. Your role in being the head of a group that employs such cowards serving along with, and tarnishing the image of, the noble officers you do have cannot be erased either. You hold just as much responsibility as they do.[If I was][As] a resident of the City of New York, I [would be][am] calling for your position to be questioned as well. An action such as this requires swift and long reaching changes to prevent its reoccurrence. Your tenure has certainly not been without other moments of gross negligence and reckless behavior on the part of YOUR officers. It is time to make sure this never happens again, and not just give lip service to a 'better tomorrow'. It is my sincere hope that your current staff does not repeat, yet again, any or all of the actions taken by Officers Oliver, Cooper, Isnora, Headly and Carey. I am looking forward to reports of major changes at One Police Plaza and for those changes to reach EVERY precinct in New York. Sincerely, [Your name] |
