Hi TCB girl!! The above story is fascinating to me, to tell it, that is, because in more ways than one, I was personally involved...

Contemplate, if you must (LOL), my "predicament" as I, then aged 12, arrived in Mexico City, in March of 1962 with my sister, aged 13, and my parents.

We had become huge Elvis fans since we were 7 and 8, respectively, first in pre-Castro Cuba, one of my dad's earlier posts, then in Ecuador, and then in Peru.

We had scarcely entered each other's schools ( I was in Mexico City, she in a boarding school in Cuernavaca and all of which coinciding with our astonishment at the lack of Presley songs we could hear on radio), when I happened to enter, indavertantly, into the lion's den, so to speak, as far as the story is concerned.

In one of the times I visited the home of one of my schoolmates, and given his access to imports from the US, including every single, extended play, and album released by Evis up to that time, I asked him why was it that Elvis records could not be found, in stores, or that all one could hear on the radio were obvious translations of his songs.

My friend, also 12 yrs old, could not provide the answer, but when his much older brother showed up, about an hour later, he was able to fill me on some of the details.

To make the long story short, they were the sons of our main "villain", having told me, right there and then, about their dad's offer, but saying nothing more, other than the fact that Presley was certainly a homosexual and that the he hated Mexicans (LOL)

A few months later, Paramount arrived to shoot the "Fun in Acapulco" location scenery and, lo and behold, not a single article appeared about their presence there, in Acapulco, their stay so secretive that neither my sister nor I were aware that an Elvis film was been shot, in Mexico!!!

In March of 1964, and after getting the news that my dad was being trasferred to Brazil, he and my mother, who'd been to Acapulco a few times, decided that we could not all leave Mexico before my sister and I visited there. Once at the hotel, the son of the manager, with whom I quickly became friends, told me about what had happened 14 months before, namely the crew filming at a nearby hotel, the stars, etc, Ursula Andress, the already famous Bond girl, included, but he did not mention to me that it was an Elkvis Presley film...

Then, in 1968, an avant garde cultural revolutionary, who was one of those jailed after the Mexico City demostrations, after the 68 Olympics, wrote a book, which included the other details in the story, starting with his being there, himself, at the "King Creole" incident.

He also researched into the "GI. Blues" incident, all of which dovetailing nicely with a more recent book, entitled "Refried Elvis", which deals with the rock and roll counterculture in Mexico and draws most of its Elvis related chapter to what was told in the 1958 story.

You should all read "Refried Elvis"

TCB girl, I understand what the topic is and I defend Elvis just like you do. However, disproving him as a racist is useless. All the evidence has already been discussed. Other racist people who believe Elvis was a racist will never believe otherwise because of their hatred for whites. So why discuss it any more is what I say. Let's just listen and appreciate what both black and white artists have brought to us. Comments should be made and I believe mine was related to this topic. Chill out and relax!:) No sense in getting riled up TCB girl. ;)

LOL Johnny...not riled up at all. ;) I understand your point. Sometimes the written word has difficulty coming across correctly. Did not mean to offend you in any way. It is just upsetting to me that some say ELVIS is a racist. The man had a very good heart and just wasn't.

Here's to ELVIS!:)

elvis was a "by product" of many years of influential black music. there would never have been an elvis without gospel and R&B..........however, i am a black man who happens to love elvis's music, and his movies.race does not matter only the music does.

The badge Elvis received from President Richard Nixon was not MEANINGLESS to ELVIS. Unless you think hobbies that bring joy to a man's heart are meaningless. Elvis enjoyed collecting badges as a hobby.

"Collecting police badges is not a new hobby, since the 40's there have been well known collectors, some of the famous collectors are Elvis (singer), Bud Abbott(comic), Buddy Hackett (comic), Jay Leno(comic), Steven Segal (actor), Chuck Connors (cowboy actor), Jason Prestley (90210 actor), Richard Nixon (president), Johnny Cash (singer), Jodie Foster (actress), Bob Hope (comic), Gene Autry (cowboy actor), and Dan Aykroyd (actor)these are just some of the few thousands of collectors around the world .these photos were found throughout the internet and some were sent to me by, officers, friends and family members of officers. Please quote me to exactness.'The King' was found dead on a toilet with an excessive amount of drugs in his system. He was a shorthand associate of Nixon (a known racist senator and corrupt president),which a number of blacks hated. This could be reason enough for why he was deemed racist.
Secondly, the irony is that for a person fighting illegal drugs,he was using prescribed meds in excess. His badge is a farce to the situation.
Political rap group,Public Enemy, envoked America's heartstrings stating:"...That sucker was straight up racist..." This is probably why this is a topic now.The average person could only care less about Elvis.

Those that WANT to believe Elvis was a racist are going to. There seems no reasoning with the the emotional person who does not wish to be educated on the matter. Elvis loved black people so it seems really sad that some of you are hell bent on believing something that just is untrue as untrue gets.

As for "Knottie"...Elvis NEVER said that line you are quoting.

To mrwhiteman,
Yes, Elvis unfortunately got addicted to prescribed pain medication and paid the highest price for that mistake. We all have our weaknesses in life...emotionally and otherwise...Sweet Elvis was no different than any of us in that regard. To enjoy so much rubbing another man's weaknesses in his face...(and a dead man at that)...only shows your own.

You gotta love people who come in here, oblivious to anything that's been going on in this whole long thread, and basically say "Elvis is racist because he said (insert stupid quote here) on TV!"

Ignorance is bliss.

And it's generally sad that many of you believe everything you hear, and don't bother to look up anything.

Such is the state of America now.

Yup, I was just going to say that. Someone told me that too so if he did say that then yes he was a racist.

The thing is...he didn't say it. That story is completely false.
Elvis' backup singers (The Sweet Inspirations) were African-American and he had many African-American friends like Muhammad Ali, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Sammy David Jr, and many others.
He was in a way colorblind, and it's terrible that rumors like this still exist, since he was probably one of the most un-racist famous people I can think of.

First off James Brown sung at Nixon's inauguration. I guess that makes him an uncle Tom then.

Elvis NEVER, I repeat folks NEVER said anything racist on television. If he had there would be documented evidence which has never surfaced.

Some of you are just plain ignorant. Hence the reason for America's downfall today from youth stupidity and glorifying rap gang members to voting for a terrorist as our next president. My what a wonderful country AMERICA still is.:(

The bottom line is that if Elvis weren't a white man then black people would be claiming him the King like they do a pervert child molester named Jackson. But because Elvis was white then they call him a racist without any proof to back it up. The fact of the matter is that blacks in general are the real racists and their accusations towards Elvis are evidence of just that.

Actually, Elvis started dating, and most likely screwing, Priscilla when he was 21 and she was 14 years old. I think that is what we call child molestation. So, if you are going to put the "child molester" jacket on Michael Jackson's back, it fits Elvis quite well, too. And his case is documented and proven.

While you are at it, don't forget to include Jerry Lee Lewis, too. He married and screwed his own cousin when he was 20 and she was 13 years old.

Wrong. Elvis did not date Priscilla or HAVE ANY INTERCOURSE WIT HER until she was 17 which at that time it was considered legal age. They met when she was 14 while he was in Germany. Her father was an Air force commander.
