i would like to state that black women who wear weaves are really insecure women. they dont even wear the weavefor "convenience" or "versitility"as they try to claim. these excuses are weak because black women can grow out their own natural hair and wear it in these same styles, but opt not to because men wont find it as attractive. that's really sad.what these men are really saying is 'you're only beautiful if you look like a white girl. ya'll let that marinate.anyway,be good..and keep it nappy.

you cannot make blanket statments like this. women wear their hair how they want. people need to stop putting black women under the magnifying glass for the way they wear their hair. no one has the right to sit in the judgement seat against anyone for the things they do. it's crazy how many people are so critical of every little thing that black women do. everyone wants to be able to tell someone they should do this or that. everyone wants to be able to look down their nose and judge. it's really not that complicated. i've worn my hair both ways, it just depends on what i feel like doing. too many threads are being created like this, and they alwasy cause hell on this forum. it's ridiculous.

No matter how many weaves you wear, you're not going to look white.

Black hair is extremely versatile. There are a lot of different options. Weaves are just one of them. It can be fun. It allows you to try different things and be creative. Women of many nationalities wear weaves. No big deal.

white ppl are so full of themselves. no one wants to be or look white so quit fooling yourselves. as for the weaves..who cares. black women can have their own beautiful long hair, they just don't have time for the maintenance. so farewell to all them poor horses missing a tail.

First off my hair is long and sometimes when I dont feel like using the flat iron. I would have my friends braided up in corn rolls and single braids. You dont have to be insecure about your hair to wear it in weave. I remember a year ago my hair was cut in a short bob like this http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view... . And when I didn't feel like maintaining my bob I would get kinky twist or plats. It cost alot to keep a bob looking fresh at all times

i have nappy hair. what's the big deal. i love the afro, and i love how long dreads look on the men, it's really sexy. anyway's, i believe i've seen a horse or two with nappy hair. we need more of those, that way we can have more versatility with the weaves.

As a African American Lesbian I dont wear weaves to impress men. I dont wear weaves to be white. I like to workout, party, and be on time for work everyday. Wearing weaves assists in those endevors. I dont have the 3hours it takes weekly (when Im doing my own hair) or the 8hours weekly (when going to a salon) to waste. 3hours once every two months is affordable and time efficent for me. Stop being self righteous and thinking that everyone who wears weaves are the devil.

if you are going to wear a weave, do it right. i don't care about seeing white chicks walking around with their weaves looking like britney spears, but sistahs need to stop walking out the house with korean silk weaves and kunta kente edges. you look busted. most of it just looks like plastic sitting on their head since they never get it in a natural texture.

I'm trying to figure out why you give a sh9t. I know plenty of black girls with long hair under their weaves. How the hell is your hair going to make you look white?Nobody desires to look white so stop that madness. Even Michael Jackson still look black. Stop judging us and make an investment in the stock market open a business or purchase a home. These are more important issues for you to be concerned with. As for the men, they prefer natural hair so its just women excercising her womanly options. Get over it!!!

I agree 100% and even in the media black women wear weaves like Tyra Banks and Vanessa Williams. How do u think that will make a black woman feel? They will start to think that is the only way they can be beautiful and that Tyra does it,so I can too.The only difference is that Tyra is a celeb and can get a 5,ooo dollar weave that looks good, but most blk women on the street can't afford that and their weave looks busted.Anyways I think the real problem are ppl like Tyra Banks. She says she wants to help the black community, then she should take the darn weave off.She doesn't realize she's in power and she can change the perception of beauty and if she wears her natural hair often, that will inspire and encourage others to do that too,but no.She wants to run around like a white girl, latina,or Indian girl.

Is this not 2009?! Why are black women still being judged by their hair. Every woman on earth can feel free to change the texture and colour of her hair, but if a black woman does it, something is wrong. We are not trying to be white. We are simply like all other women in the world and like to change our hair. Give it a break! We as black women should be concerned with out health, not our hairstyles.

I don't think they are trying to look like white women. I think they are trying (I say, TRYING) to look Latina. But it's impossible to capture the beauty of Latina girl, even long straight black Korean or Indian hair sewn on.

We don't want to "look like" anyone and should not be judged on our hair... Weave most often is for style, versatility or simplicity please don't get it twisted!

Nappy Neffie you sound like you are insecure yourself. I find that people who are insecure with themself love to put others down to make themself feel good.
First of all I know some black women with really long hair who still wear weave and sometimes the weave is not even as long as their own hair but their hair gets a break when they wear weave. Everybody wear weave for a different reason. Second of all please know that white women wear weaves too all the time but most people just take it for granted that it's their hair they are wearing just like sometimes black women who have long hair and wear it people think it's weave as if to say black women don't ever have natural long hair.
You are judgemental and should take a look at yourself before pointing fingures. If we want to spend OUR MONEY to wear weaves whose business is that but our own...NOBODY.
