I'm canadian and we have poor neighborhoods but we do not have the high amount of abandoned buildings and stuff isn't as run down (I'm judging by what I see on TV of american ghettos) Crime in low income urban areas is not as rampant , I can go into an area that is low income and "black" (I'm a white guy), if its during broad daylight I'm safe , if I went in a group even in the dead of night I would be fine , we do not have the same amount of gun crime as america because we don't have the second amendment , we do have the occasional stabing and even the odd shooting but not like what I hear happens in american ghettos , is it really as bad down there in low income areas as TV and everyone thinks or is it just a bunch of over exsagurated BS?

The USA is a huge country of over 310 million souls, Tyler.

It all depends on WHERE you are and how you carry yourself. I have heard some extremely scary things about Chicago although I've never visited there. The celebrity Jennifer Hudson - an incredibly BEAUTIFUL Black Queen - saw her own family destroyed by horrible ghetto-style gun violence in Chicago:

As you can see, for her family it definitely WAS very bad...

its broken down, high violent crime rates, low income, high dependence of government financial assistance, alcohol and drugs affect the lower class in negative ways so thats usually an issue in these places, the educational system sucks ass, etc.

some ghettos are worse than others though, obviously. but none of them are places you would actually want to live in.

Yeah...how come Al 'Its so hard, to be so Black' Sharpton didn't march and protest THOSE innocent black lives being taken away like that?
Oh, that's right, because the perp was a (90% statistically) other negro...lol!

I think it depends on where you live. Like I been to the ghetto at night a few times and it's usually just that there aren't street lights, two or three abandoned houses, and a few people hanging out late. But generally that was all. I was more scared of the legend of the ghetto than I was at what I actually saw. LOL.

But, what is considered the ghetto where I live doesn't compare to other ghettos in certain places in America. I often wonder how people can live hearing gunshots every night or where there is no grass. You know, it's just nuts

Crazy Story Alert...

OMG...I was 16 sneaking out of the house at night and my boyfriend at that time took me to the hood because that's where he was from. I was so scared...I was panicked and hyperventilating...like "I'm gonna get shot. I just couldn't relax for shxt." I was all like I don't wanna be here. I'm gonna die. Hahahah...LOl. Hahaha...I watched a lot a tv as a teen.

Anyways just a funny story because this thread made me think of this.

First off , I wouldn't recommend a sightseeing journey into an American ghetto. Things can get sideways pretty quick. The cops , thinking you're some punk from the 'burbs looking to score some dope , would most likely chase you away anyways.

That said , these are some observations I've made in ghettos I'm familiar with (Chi-town , Gary , Detroit , northside of Milwaukee).....

-grown men riding around on bmx-style children's bicycles (probably "lookouts" for the dope sellers). Older Black men just aimlessly wandering around , often waving at, and stepping into, traffic.

-seemingly every other private residence in extreme disrepair , boarded up , or completely abandoned.

-a "currency exchange" on every corner. In SW Chicago , these are known as "the po' man's bank".

-middle-aged Black men still sporting the "Jeri-curl" style hairdo , and looking pretty damn FLY if I may say.

-the overwhelming number of billboards advertising hard liquor (like Canadian Club or Colt 45)

-The odd sight of gym shoes tied together and thrown over power lines above the street. This is used by drug dealers to mark their territory.

-the ever present burning tire -like stench.

That's just a brief description. Take my advice , and when you travel to the "Joe" in Motown to watch the Wings WIN ,just get back onto the Ambassador into Windsor as soon as you can. Nothin' to see in the 'hood.

let's just say I probly would look a bite suspicious driving around in 'the hood' cause I drive a 2012 Chevy silverado ( a pickup truck probly isn't the most common vehicle there , and a new one would be more the suspecious ) and I go to the Joe louis center when the Calagary Flames play :), anyways we have bad areas here they aren't always very identifiable a few unkept yards and a few basketball courts that are sometimes filled with young black and hispanic gangster wanna be teens , and some graffeti and such but its not a terrible thing (I wouldn't wanna live there but if I did I could still servive and be safe if I locked my doors and my car)
