Texas Gov. Rick Perry Indicted For Abuse Of Power
A grand jury indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Friday for allegedly abusing the powers of his office by carrying out a threat to veto funding for state prosecutors investigating public corruption — making the possible 2016 presidential hopeful his state's first indicted governor in nearly a century.
A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law when he promised publicly to nix $7.5 million over two years for the public integrity unit run by the office of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg. Lehmberg, a Democrat, was convicted of drunken driving, but refused Perry's calls to resign.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/15/rick...
please don't make me post the list of GOP politicians who screwed up and then wouldn't resign.
Isn't it obvious that a DA who blows .239, is convicted of DWI & goes to jail, should resign as DA in charge of the integrity unit? Does anyone disagree? If so, why?

If Axelrod is saying the above DA is blowing smoke with her indictment--it says everything. Notice you left out Think Progress dissing this DA's move.

How does one violate VETO powers?

Nice deflection. But here's the question you didn't answer again.

Would you support a President Allen West or a President Condoleezza Rice both of whom are black and conservative if they were making policies and passing legislation on a strictly Republican partisan vote rejecting any and all Democrats' input and without even one elected Democrat representative's support?

Because I would absolutely support a President Condoleezza Rice and a President Allen West if he consistently had the right message.

Would you be a racist for criticizing their policies and ideologies after forcing them on you?

Can you just answer the question?

<quoted text>I haven't seen anything on the news about Jewish people beheading Christian children or threatening to kill any one in the world who didn't convert. I don't remember the news reporting that any of the people that highjacked airliners and crashed them into the World Trade Center or other targets were Jewish. The only thing standing between radical Muslims in the Middle East and a threat to our sovereignty is Israel. It is sad that the world is the way it is ,but it is more sad that the occupant of The White House is on the wrong side and thrives on the divisiveness.
Typical. Divert attention from israel's atrocities by changing the subject to radical muslims. No one is falling for that tactic any longer. Israel's violation of basic human rights is the topic of discussion. Like it or not.

Corporations that operate in the Middle East certainly don't want to be associated with israel's tyrannical government.

"Coffee giant Starbucks has been forced once again to deny rumors that the company or its chief executive financially support Israel and its army.

'This is absolutely untrue,' the company said in a statement in response to the swelling hoax that the coffee chain and CEO Howard Schultz donate millions of dollars to support the Israel Defense Forces.

'Rumors that Starbucks or Howard provides financial support to the Israeli government and/or the Israeli Army are unequivocally false,' the Aug. 5 statement continues.

'Starbucks is a publicly held company and as such, is required to disclose any corporate giving each year through a proxy statement.'

This isn’t the Kentucky of Elmore Leonard’s imagination, and there is nothing romantic about it. These are no sons and daughters of Andrew Jackson, no fiercely independent remnants of the old America clinging to their homes and their traditional ways. Having once been downwind of a plate of biscuits and squirrel gravy does not make you Daniel Boone. This is not the land of moonshine and hill lore, but that of families of four clutching $40 worth of lotto scratchers and crushing the springs on their beaten-down Camry while getting dinner from a Phillips 66 station.
This is about “the draw.”
“The draw,” the monthly welfare checks that supplement dependents’ earnings in the black-market Pepsi economy, is poison. It’s a potent enough poison to catch the attention even of such people as those who write for the New York Times. Nicholas Kristof, visiting nearby Jackson, Ky., last year, was shocked by parents who were taking their children out of literacy classes because the possibility of improved academic performance would threaten $700-a-month Social Security disability benefits, which increasingly are paid out for nebulous afflictions such as loosely defined learning disorders.“This is painful for a liberal to admit,” Kristof wrote,“but conservatives have a point when they suggest that America’s safety net can sometimes entangle people in a soul-crushing dependency.”
In effect, welfare has made Appalachia into a big and sparsely populated housing project — too backward to thrive, but just comfortable enough to keep the underclass in place.

Romney voters.
Would sure hope these Appalachians aren't "sons and daughters of Andrew Jackson" as being "fiercely independent remnants of the old America".

Andrew Jackson was a Democrat and a demagogue:

1. He violated the constitution by over-riding supreme court's decision not to throw out the Cherokee from Georgia
2. He had no concern for Human rights hence throwing out all the Cherokee tribes from Georgia and saying "they are not really a nation" and they are "savages".
3. He destroyed the national bank for personal issues he was quoted as saying "The Bank is trying to kill me but I will kill it."

Even Thomas Jefferson said "He is the most unfit man to be the president."

Sounds oddly familiar. Jackson certainly had a pen but at least he didn't have a cellphone.

Islamic State militants killed scores of Yazidi men in a remote northern village and took hundreds of women and children captive, according to unconfirmed reports by Iraqi officials on Saturday..

The militants had surrounded the village of Kocho for 10 days before moving in on Friday and carrying out the killings, a Yazidi lawmaker said, citing accounts by two survivors.

The village contained about 300 men, but it was not immediately clear how many were killed. Iraqi news agencies reported that at least 81 died. About 600 women and children from the village have been taken to the town of Tal Afar, which is under the control of the militant group, the Yazidi lawmaker, Mahma Khalil, said in an interview.

If the Cherokee could vote, Jackson wouldn't have been so hasty to call them "savages". He would have provided them subsidy teepees and wampum welfare.

Just like Obama never addresses the real problems within the black community. He overlooks the black-on-black homicide rate and the statistics of babies born out of wedlock who can't get a good education because Democrats oppose a voucher system and who resort to crime and drugs instead. But they keep voting Democrat.

And that's all that matters.

There have been plenty of politicians on both sides of the aisle arrested and convicted of drunk driving who haven't stepped down, why should she? In most cities the office of DA isan elected position, shouldn't we let the electorate decide who they wnat? after all that is what democracy is all about.

are you against letting the voters decide?

Defending the only president we have at the time does not make one a progressive on all issues.
Defending the USA is important.

This president's interpretation of an "ongoing investigation" means: "Until the media sweeps it under the rug and everyone forgets about it."

And until there's another scandal and another ongoing investigation....it's kind of a pattern now.

We've become numb with scandals and ongoing investigations.

Think that might be intentional? By the propagandists and the power elite?

One of the Rules for Radicals is to "overwhelm the system" using corruption as the means by which to do it. Maybe overwhelming the populace with corruption is included in that rule.
