Well, statistics would disagree with you about private schools and home schooling.
But you're right about union-controlled urban schools. The problem is union-controlled schools are nationwide.
Even if rural schools, small town schools and many small city schools aren't as doomed as inner city schools, unions have administrators under their thumbs and teachers feel like they're walking on eggshells in most all public schools - some worse than others.
Apparently $70 Billion isn't enough. Arne wants even MORE...

Since Congress created the Department of Education under Jimmy Carter 30 years ago, American students have lost ground against other nations.

How bad is it? Last year, an international assessment showed that U.S. students ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science and 25th in math among 34 countries. This prompted U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan to say,“This is an absolute wake-up call for America.... We have to deal with the brutal truth. We have to get much more serious about investing in education.”

So you are against free enterprise then? All prices of all products are not the same in every store. The only way for all drugs to be at the same price for everyone is by government control.

Agree. Do home school parents receive tax payer funds to educate their children?

More importantly, Lily, why would YOU want to deny parents the freedom to choose what school they think would better educate their children?
If all schools are required to teach a standard curriculum, why would you deny Muslim or Jewish or Quaker or Amish parents the freedom to choose?
Since when did taxpayers become so intolerant of religious freedom when private schools provide a better education?
No one is being forced to choose a private school. But why should parents be forced to send their children to public schools?
Nobody is forced, you have choices. You just want the taxpayers to pay for it. Public education is for everyone, you want to go to church, do it on Sunday no One is stopping you. Go to church every night if you want, who cares?

You're so not getting it, I don't even know where to begin.
But let me assure you envy isn't the issue. It was a male fifth grade student. I'm just not into that kind of clothing or sneakers.
However, I did feel a little sorry for a few of the other boys in my class who wore their older siblings hand-me-downs and brought a sandwich from home every day.
Even so, it's probably still too obvious. So just forget it.
I'm only sorry you twisted this into something so unrecognizable it made you sick.
What a load. You couldn't stand the the Hispanic kid was dressed nicely. Period. If he was white you wouldn't have even had such a thought. Perhaps the kid had grandparents who bought his clothes; perhaps his parents were divorced and his father bought the clothes, perhaps his mother worked in a retail store... The possibilities are endless. Free lunch is based on income.

In a perfect world, bad teachers and administrators would be fired.
Last I checked, it wasn't perfect.
"Educators" are too busy bending over for Obama by putting below average intelligence students in advanced placement classes. Expecting high performance results from corporations dumbed down by employees with faux degrees is taking political correctness too far.

You won't see Japan risking it's economy by soothing the damaged egos of losers who think a college degree is something they deserve instead of something they achieve.

"Galt pays far more for utilities and food every year than for medical care, all paid in cash, with no insurance…."
Translated,-

Galt pays more for food and utilities via a cash, than he does for medical care.

Anything beyond that is actually an open ?, as Galt could just have an inexpensive, worthless policy, with extremely high deductables and out of pocket expenses that he doesn't use much because of it.

Kind of like alot of the robbinghoodietic plans....at 100$ a month, with deductables of 1000$.

Which is the underlying problem in expecting healthy, young people to just pick up the tabs for NOTHING useful, to float an already over used and abused system of "fwee riders".

WORKING class people ALREADY pay taxes for THAT, every payday...and the idiots in DC can't even manage THAT.

Why would should they have to be saddled with MORE expenses to pay any MORE for nothing beneficial to them.

Cap, Curb (the already existing over used and abused welfare programs) B-U-D-G-E-T, balance and live with in Americas means again.

The economy and reality demand it!

REDO the HIPPA and Constiutional Breaching american communist act--it does NOT belong miring down and mucking up the private sector market, or on the oh so hackable public webs of more givverment failure, but instead belongs in the givverment offices of socialist programs-held at ACCOUNTABILITY-and for VERIFICATION and Identification purposes.

T.E.A.!

Independent working class voters FOR America again-NOT divide and drain MORE against it!
