BS. Most studies indicate conservatives have an average IQ 20+ points higher than the average liberal. This isn't surprising since the studies also indicate many democratic voters are dead.

WASHINGTON -- WASHINGTON (AP)— A man set himself on fire on the National Mall in the nation's capital as passers-by rushed over to help douse the flames, officials and witnesses said Friday afternoon.

The reason for the self-immolation was not immediately clear and the man's identity was not disclosed. But it occurred in public view, on a central national gathering place, in a city still rattled by a mass shooting last month and a high-speed car chase outside the U.S. Capitol on Thursday that ended with a woman being shot dead by police.

The man on the Mall suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the hospital, said District of Columbia fire department spokesman Tim Wilson.

He was standing by himself in the center portion of the Mall when he emptied the contents of a red gasoline can on himself and set himself on fire moments later, said Katy Scheflen, who witnessed it as she walked across the area. Police say they responded around 4:20 p.m. Friday.

Scheflen said passing joggers took off their shirts in an effort to help douse the flames, and the man was clearly alive as the fire spread. A police department spokesman said he was conscious and breathing at the scene. MedStar Washington Hospital Center tweeted that the man was taken there and he was in critical condition.

"There was not a lot people could do because it was a gasoline fire," Scheflen said.

She said he may have said something before he acted "but it was nothing intelligible." She said she did not see him holding any signs before he set himself ablaze and that there was another man with a tripod set up near him but did not mention if he was filming.

Lt. Pamela Smith of the U.S. Park Police, which is investigating along with the D.C. police department, said: "I'm not aware of any signage or any articulation of any causes."

The D.C. police department has dispatched its violent crimes branch, which responds to cases in which a person suffers serious injury.

Wonder when Obama will figure out his stubbornness and refusal to compromise like real leaders do will backfire.

The buck really does stop with him. Not Republicans.

Maybe when his approval numbers dip down into the 30s (41% now), he'll have an epiphany that is hasn't been all about him after all.

Kenyan scumbag Barack Obama turned down Republican South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard's offer to keep the Mount Rushmore National Memorial open with state workers. The National Park Service told state officials that it was required to use federal employees, not state employees, at the monument, and that opening Mount Rushmore would set a precedent to open the other federal parks.

"It makes sense for the federal government to shut things down because there isn't funding available, but it doesn't make sense to close something because the scumbag in the White House is trying to m ake a point because he hates America," said Tony Venhuizen, a spokesman for the governor. "Our offer still stands if there is a change of heart on the part of federal officials. We certainly would be pleased to talk to them if they seem interested."

A congressional watchdog group filed an ethics complaint against a Republican lawmaker who was caught on camera berating a park ranger over a memorial closed as part of the government shutdown.
Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) demanded to know why the National Park Service Ranger was keeping most tourists out of the World War II Memorial, although visiting veterans had been permitted to enter by the Interior Department.
The lawmaker, who helped set up the shutdown by voting with his House Republican colleagues to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act, told the park ranger she should be ashamed of herself.
Footage of the confrontation Wednesday between Neugebauer, the park ranger and a crowd gathered at the memorial was shot by NBC News.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics against Neugebauer, saying his conduct violated the requirement that lawmakers act “at all times in a manner that reflects creditably on the House.”
The group’s executive director, Melanie Sloan, told Raw Story the congressman had angered her for humiliating the park ranger by treating the woman with disrespect in front of a group of people.
“You can’t shut down the government and then go yell at a park ranger as if she had some role in it,” Sloan said.
Sloan said she doubted the ethics committee would take steps to punish Neugebauer, but she hoped he’d at least be sent a letter of reprimand.
“People already hate members of Congress, and videos like this only shows why,” Sloan said.

maybe you should learn how our government legislature process is suppose to work.
The GOP led House has passes a resolution to defund the ACA 41 times. Each time the resolution was defeated in the Senate. Even if by some miracle it did pass the Senate, President Obama would defeat it.

You see Lois, an act has to pass in both Houses and then get signed by the President to become law. That's how our Founding Fathers wanted our government to work, its there in the Constitution, try reading it. Its commonly referred to SEPARATION OF POWER.

Now, the GOP leadership in the House, knowing full well they don't have a prayer of defunding the ACA, have attached a rider to the CR. Its called an end run around the Constitution and our legislature process.

there is nothing to discuss or negotiate. If the GOP wants to defend the ACA there is a simple way to do it. Win a majority in both houses in Congress and put a republican in the oval office.

until then learn to accept the fact that the ACA is the LAW OF THE LAND. You and your party should stop acting like spoiled two year olds. Actually I take that back, keep acting like two year olds and you all can hold breath until the ACA is defunded. That will solve a plethora of our countries problems

Yahoo story:
Rena W. is a 35-year-old small-business owner -- the co-owner, actually, of an Atlanta hair salon. She works hard but doesn't make enough money to purchase health insurance.

A mother of three, Rena has high cholesterol and hypertension. Last month, she suffered a mini-stroke, a calamity that brought confusion, a brief bout of aphasia and a trip to the emergency room. She has recovered, but now owes the hospital $17,000 for her treatment, a debt that she says will take her years to repay.

Rena is just the sort of hardworking American for whom the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act -- routinely called "Obamacare" -- is designed. She can now purchase a policy that will pay for the medical care she needs and insure against any more medical emergencies.(If only she'd had that insurance a bit sooner, she would not be burdened by debt.)

But for reasons that are hard to grasp, Republicans are apparently willing to throw the American economy over the cliff -- and to further destabilize an already-shaky global economy, as well -- just to keep Rena from being able to buy affordable health insurance. If the government shutdown doesn't force President Obama to forsake his signature legislative accomplishment, many Republicans say, they will refuse to lift the debt ceiling, sending the country into default for the first time in history.

Racist Obama out of touch with 80% of Americans

WASHINGTON (AP)-- President Barack Obama says he would "think about changing" the Washington Redskins' name if he owned the football team as he waded into the controversy involving a word that many consider offensive to Native Americans.

Obama, in an interview with The Associated Press, said team names such as the Redskins offend "a sizable group of people." He said that while fans get attached to the names, nostalgia may not be a good enough reason to keep them in place.

"I don't know whether our attachment to a particular name should override the real legitimate concerns that people have about these things," he said in the interview, which was conducted Friday.

An AP-GfK poll conducted in April showed that nationally, "Redskins" still enjoys wide support. Nearly 4 in 5 Americans don't think the team should change its name, the survey found. Only 11 percent think it should be changed, while 8 percent weren't sure and 2 percent didn't answer.
