Outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint said Thursday President Obama will "get his wish" to raise taxes as part of a deal to avert the fiscal cliff.

"We're going to be raising taxes," DeMint told "CBS This Morning."

These facts explain why the tax pledge that virtually all Republicans blindly support is ultimately self-defeating. Refusing to raise revenue automatically leads to higher spending for interest on the debt. However, Republicans routinely deny this, asserting that capping revenue at some arbitrary percentage of G.D.P. will somehow or other force huge cuts in spending that will prevent deficits from rising to inconceivable levels. Implicitly, they believe in a nonsensical theory called starve-the-beast that is totally refuted by the budgetary experience of the last 20 years.
The frightening thing is that the projections for interest on the debt assume that interest rates don’t rise in the near term and don’t rise at all even as the federal debt rises to 200 percent of G.D.P. in 2037 and to 885 percent of G.D.P. in 2082. The G.A.O. assumes that short-term rates on Treasury securities average 1.3 percent through 2017 and 3.7 percent in the long run, and rates on 10-year Treasuries will average 3.4 percent in the short-run and 5 percent in the long run.
These assumptions cannot be taken at face value. Federal borrowing of the magnitude projected would undoubtedly raise inflation and real interest rates, both of which would raise market interest rates far above those projected, sharply raising federal spending for interest. Rising inflation would also force the Federal Reserve to tighten monetary policy, which would also raise real rates.
In short, the G.A.O. projections are a best-case situation insofar as interest on the debt is concerned. It could get a lot worse very quickly, and at that point it is almost a certainty that taxes will rise far more than would be necessary to stabilize the debt-to-G.D.P. ratio and hence interest on the debt. Therefore, the absolutist position against raising revenue is essentially penny-wise and pound-foolish.
It’s too bad that misplaced fears about the fiscal cliff have taken off the table the option of simply letting all the automatic tax increases and spending cuts go into effect. While this would indeed reduce short-run growth, the Congressional Budget Office says the reduction in projected deficits would actually raise growth in the medium- and long-term (see pages 24-25 of the report).

What hype don't you believe?

The Feds stepping in to help the economy because of a "grave concern" over the high unemployment rate, warning Congress to avoid going over the cliff to prevent another recession in 2013?

Or Geithner telling ABC that Obama is absolutely willing to go over the fiscal cliff?

So what? Many people DON'T celebrate either Christ, or Christmas. It's a 'free exercise of religion' type of society here, in case you didn't notice, and NO religion should engender a United States Federal holiday. Ever.

Hahaha! You dumbass porch monkey, "rich white racists" wouldnt even be NEAR Staten island after Sandy; they'd go to one of their OTHER homes and wait for the insurance $$$ to roll in. Here are the arrests in Staten Island in the first artcle that popped up; they really sound "old & white"...

Details emerge about 5 looting arrests on Staten Island

Staten Island Advance/Michael Oates STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.-- As Staten Islanders struggled to cope with Hurricane Sandy's devastation, looters tried to take advantage of beleaguered and shuttered businesses, prosecutors said.

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with two separate incidents, and a Prince's Bay resident was busted after a stolen generator and trailer were found in his driveway.

The first episode occurred Tuesday at noon.

Officers responding to the Rent-A-Center at 1230 Castleton Ave., West Brighton, allegedly saw Manhattan resident Damion Pratt, 19, exiting. Pratt was climbing through the locked front door, which had been smashed open, and through a hole cut in the security gate, said court papers,

Inside the store, cops found Deshawn Pratt, 16, of the 800 block of Henderson Avenue, West Brighton, hiding beneath a mattress and bed frame. The younger Pratt tussled with officers who tried to arrest them and initially gave them a bogus name when asked to identify himself, said prosecutors.

Both defendants were charged with a felony count of burglary, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass and attempted petit larceny, said a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan. Deshawn Pratt is also accused of false personation and resisting arrest.

In an unrelated episode early Wednesday morning, three North Shore men were allegedly caught in the act of trying to break into a Concord store.

Court papers said officers arrived at 588 Richmond Rd. at about 12:30 a.m. and found Christopher Santana, 30, sawing a gate lock with an electric saw. Another suspect, Louis Pallo, 20, was prying the lock with a crowbar, while a third suspect, Jamel Gibson, 33, appeared to be keeping lookout, said court records.

Santana and Pallo live on Warren Street, Stapleton; Gibson resides on the 100 block of Park Hill Avenue, Clifton.

The suspects are accused of attempted burglary, criminal mischief and possessing burglar's tools, said Donovan's spokesman.

Later, Wednesday morning on the South Shore, officers allegedly found a generator and trailer in the driveway of Joseph Martino's Queensdale Street home. The equipment had been stolen on Tuesday from a MetroPCS storage yard, said court papers.

Martino, 30, told cops he had bought them for $1,000 from a man outside a Home Depot store, court documents said. Martino allegedly said the seller transported the equipment to his home. Cops said the generator and trailer were valued collectively at $20,000.

Martino was charged with three counts of stolen-property possession, said prosecutors.

'he lacked restraint'
that should settle the issue. if not, let's talk about edited video.
From your article:

Crowder: He was attacking a tent with women and children in it! People were pulling him off!

Sullivan: Oh, he was attacking a tent! Then what were you doing?

Crowder: We were there trying to prevent people from being hurt in the tent!

Sullivan: Listen, Steve, you deserve what you got!

Crowder: You are a liar, sir!

Sullivan: You deserve what you got.

When asked about right-to-work laws being fair, Sullivan agreed there should be less “dictatorship” in the way unions are run.
