shylow...are you saying that racial and ethnic discimination is not a current issue in America? Are you saying that the $40 million lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch didn't happen in 2004? Going to tell me that $105 million suit in '92 is fiction? Denny's in '97? How about "redlining"? Did you know that in 2006, there were more claims of housing discrimination filed than any year in American history?
I know you want to stampede toward a world of pure equality, but saying it's so doesn't make it so. Here are the steps:
1. Admit that the issue exists
2. Examine all sides of the issue
3. Remediate the flaw
4. Bolster the solution with legislation and ENFORCE it.
5. Monitor vigilantly and revise as appropriate.
6. Tackle the next issue.
Above all, stop attacking the people that are being discriminated against.
You can stop talking about slavery now. Start talking about America's EXISTING injustices; after all, those are things that can actually be changed.
FYI - the NAAWP was founded in 1980. I'm not going to elaborate. Google it; it'll make you proud of how White people act when they can exclude everyone else on the basis of race.
Please re-read what I wrote and take it for what I said and not what you want to make it out to be. I speak and type very clearly. My point was made. Simple. Thats it. No hidden messages. Got it?
Now, Johnny Q, exclusion of races starts with people and will end with people...and this means of any race. Why dont you scroll up and go back a few pages...read what people are saying and understand why I commented and said what I did instead of trying to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Dont sit up in here and state what I am "trying" to say and read WHAT I SAID.

Uh, no. They nowhere near the same and it has nothing to do with the founding date. The NAAWP is a White supremacist, separatist organization that excludes minority members. The NAACP, on the other hand has White members and always has. In fact, Mary W. Ovington, a White woman was instrumental in its founding. In fact, the NAACP's history includes Whites in leadership positions from the very beginning.

The NAAWP is completely outclassed and should not exist because it is a haven for racists (it's founder was a member of the KKK).

White privilege is a myth. White people have been pushed to the back of the line in hiring and promotions. Slots in colleges are reserved for blacks only at the expense of better qualified whites. It's been legal racial discrimination against whites ever since affirmative action passed 4 decades ago. Legal discrimination, enforced by the government, and whites have't slowed down one bit. Sort of discredits the lie that discrimination is the cause of black failure doesn't it? It's funny that all through segregation blacks were free to develop their own communities but they absolutely failed and failed from lack of effort. It's also funny that there have always been white organizations who helped black people and helped them a lot.

Ohhh yes.....I am saddened when I see the plight of the millions upon millions of White people who have been systematically denied education and employment. I just CRINGE when I see that only 95% of Executive level positions in this country are occupied by White males, instead of 100%. America is such a brutal and unwelcoming place for whites. I'm SO sorry!

Shut up. You just sound stupid. Your argument doesn't hold water because the percentages are so miniscule. You'd do better championing the cause of miniature Dalmations that were denied work in the fire house because they didn't have enough spots. GET OVER IT. STOP WHINING.

You fall into a lot of myths. Mandatory state funded education started for blacks and whites at the same time, at the end of the Civil War. Southern schools were "separate but equal" while the other 75% of the states never had separate schools, never had segregation at all. There has always been a demand for black labor. Getting them to work has always been a problem. White people have gotten ahead by working hard and keeping their productivity at higher levels. That's illegal now under affirmative action. Companies must hire blacks whether they work hard or not. The only legal discrimination in America for the last 39 years has been against White males due to affirmative action laws.

Hostile racial attitudes against blacks began at the end of the Civil War after the highly abusive Union occupation troops tried to justify their mistreatment of southerners for having had slaves. It didn't take long before southerners were blaming blacks for being the cause of the war. The Federal Government used black Union soldiers as occupation troops and they abused innocent civilians for the entire 12 years of Union military occupation during Reconstruction. Add to that the rampant crime wave caused by newly freed blacks that swept the south and has not stopped to this day.
Lame attempt at shift the blame for southerners' racism and mistreatment of blacks onto blacks.

The abolitionist version of history has been force fed to the American public through the school system for more than a century. The real history has been largely left out but it's available to researchers. You could search [The Freedmen's Bureau] to discover how black education was started after the Civil War and how blacks were provided with free land and plenty of jobs during Reconstruction. Search [Reconsrtuction] to find out about how southern whites were denied their right to vote, to hold elected office, to serve on juries during the 12 years of Reconstruction. This time period gave all the advantages to blacks. Abolitionist history and civil rights history omit these hard facts because they contradict the distortions and lies taught by those who only want to blame whites for black failures.

It was black Union occupation troops who committed atrocities on innocent whites during the Civil War and during Reconstruction. The denial of rights to whites during Reconstruction while allowing the black minority full rights was a big factor of the animostiy that developed against blacks after the war. The black crime wave turned whites against blacks for a century. Hostility against blacks was for good reason. Segregation was instituted by the Democratic Party for one hundred years to separate the races in order to reduce this hostility that was a two way feeling.

1. I can, if I wish, arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.
2. If I should need to move, I can be pretty sure of renting or purchasing housing in an area that I can afford and in which I would want to live.
3. I can be pretty sure that my neighbors in such a location will be neutral or pleasant to me.
4. I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.
5. I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.
6. When I am told about our national heritage or about "civilization", I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.
7. I can be sure that my children will be given curricular materials that testify to the existence of their race.
8. If I want to, I can be pretty sure of finding a publisher for this piece on white privilege.
9. I can go into a music shop and count on finding the music of my race represented, into a supermarket and find the staple foods that fit with my cultural traditions, into a hairdresser's shop and find someone who can deal with my hair.
10. Whether I use checks, credit cards, or cash, I can count on my skin color not to work against the appearance of financial reliability.

12. I can swear, or dress in second-hand clothes or not answer letters without having people attribute these choices to the bad morals, the poverty, or the illiteracy of my race.
13. I can speak in public to a powerful male group without putting my race on trial.
14. I can do well in a challenging situation without being called a credit to my race.
15. I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.
16. I can remain oblivious of the language and customs of persons of color, who constitute the worlds' majority, without feeling in my culture any penalty for such oblivion.
17. I can criticize our government and talk about how much I fear its policies and behavior without being seen as a cultural outsider.
18. I can be sure that if I ask to talk to "the person in charge" I will be facing a person of my race.
19. If a traffic cop pulls me over, or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven't been singled out because of my race.
20. I can go home from most meetings or organizations I belong to feeling somewhat tied in rather than isolated, out of place, outnumbered, unheard, held at a distance, or feared.
21. I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having coworkers on the job suspect that I got it because of race.
You can also walk freely passed anyone anywhere without white people beeping the car horns at you as they suddenly lock their cars doors. That is you can go by without being insulted that you are a thief or some kind of criminal.

About time for what? You speak as if the NAACP was established as a revolt against "whitey". Let's see - just 45 years after the "emancipation" and still segregated (Jim Crow). Yeah, the playing field sure was level, so there was no need for the NAACP (sarcastic). Shylow, you are insatiably deluded and probably a white racist. I'll "harp" on the White Supremacy Dynamic until I'm deceased, being that it will more than likely still be existential. You, like other apologetic whites, so carelessly toss the "every 'race' has suffered...yadayada" phrase around like it counterpoises what has taken place (still does) under European dominance. Wrong! People like yourself are the real reason racism subsist to this day, mainly because you would like to believe that it has no bearing on today's social structure and therefore need not be addressed. You would rather us adhere to *western* standards of excellence b/c you believe that African or "black" people are incapable of succeeding by their (our) own standards. I see you, though. I see you.
and I see you want to feel like the SPECIAL race? are you special? I'm sure you are special..........

It's good that you agree with the rest of the post.
Actually, it was state law that schools be separate but equal. The cirriculums were identical. The books were identical. White school buildings were usually larger to accomodate the larger student populations. White schools tended to attract better teachers but there were always bleeding heart liberal teachers who volunteered to teach in black schools. Most black teachers taught at black schools. Most public schools were not air conditioned in the south no matter what color the school. Athletics varied from school to school no matter the color. It was usually parent led fund raisers that supplied individual schools with athletic equipment. The city where I lived in the 1960s had the local college athletic fields available to black schools every Friday and when the college teams were away on Saturdays. They were first class facilities for black schools only by local agreement. White schools tended to play on their own athletic fields even if they had no bleachers for spectators. The south was poor back then and had mediocre facilities in general. School bands required students to purchase their own uniforms and instruments. The larger instruments like tubas and bass drums were usually school furnished. White schools normally donated used band uniforms to black schools if the style changed after parent led fundraisers for new uniforms.
Visitors to southern black schools from up north were shocked at school conditions and report their shock when they returned back north. Had these same people visited white southern schools they would have seen the same conditions but that would have conflicted with their belief of black disadvantage.

I absolutely disagree with what you say.
Just because the government declares something a law, doesn't mean people will follow it. There are loopholes in evverything and separate but equal education definitely has a whole bunch.
