It is so sad.

I'm so tired of seeing so many young Black girls overweight and not exercising. And unfortunately one of the reasons are because they are so focus on maintaining their physical appearance (i.e. hair, nails). Unlike white women, full or voluptuous figures are more accepted in the Black community. But sweetie, being MORBIDLY OBESE does not mean voluptuous or "thick & sexy". It means "big & deadly". There is no excuse to be 300 lbs and two more lbs. away from dialysis or the grave.

On my campus, almost every Black girl I see is overweight, then gets angry when she sees a thing girl. Well, sweetie, you can be fit too. JUST GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!

So young sistas, would you rather be fit and healthy OR have some cute hair-do and vivacious nails. Pick one.

Lord knows I don't wanna be 6,000 lbs with laid-out hair and sexy acrylics. LOL.

Improper nutrition:
-Soul food
-Food additives
-KFC
-Junk food

OR, improper exercise--maybe none at all. But some Black girls that are barely fat are scared to work out because it will make them masculine.

I see some obese ones, but generally from what I've seen the younger girls are fine.

Well, there are some ooglies in my generation.

I see alot more the older you go up though. Just *MY* observation.

As a man I'd have to say OFCOURSE I'd rather have a fit woman than someone with some hair and nails, though those things could be nice, ugh, take it from me, they aren't the biggest thing on the male radar LOL.

Guys?

I myself live with what you would call "health-nuts" of parents so me and my sisters are like totally into eating and living right. That's how you keep a nice body if not a less obese one.:D

Most black girls at my college are in good shape...maybe because most of them are in sports.I gave up sports a while ago but I still try to do something.

Damn Cuteblkdude, why you mad.

I agree with Willing Thinker. By the way Fang, as much as I love KFC because its delicious not all blacks eat it so you might want to watch your comments. I think you can be thick and sexy but there is a line you have to make because weight and health is directly related. Personally, I hate to see unhealthy skinny women. Alot of times it's pretty disgusting but I see those type more among the white population. Thick women are beautiful as long as they are not FAT.

My family eats fast food once a week.My mom usually bakes the chicken with a little barb-b-que sauce and we have rice and squash/corn or some type of vegetable.I usually eat honey bunches oat for breakfast. My mother works out on the treadmill every day so does everyone else,I usually do kickboxing videos...I'm about average weight not really overweight but not far from it.Working out really helps and it's best to not eat fast food everyday and fried foods it's not good and it's very greasy.

Now YOU know I didn't mean it like that (and I am NOT trying to start fights here), but REALLY? KFC may be delicious (I don't think it is), BUT it will rape your body with sodiums, fats, trans-fats, food additives (like MSG which causes you to crave more of it) and other things. The smartest thing I ever did as a Black woman was kick that shit to the curb and start treating my body well. I like to call it the Colonel's final revenge.

I agree that there are a lot of black women overweight, but on my college campus there aren't really ANY black women that are overweight, most of them are the white girls. I see a lot of thick black girls, but none that are digustingly over weight. I do know though that black people in general--men and women--tend to eat fatty unhealthy foods, don't exercise much as white people.
My mom is health antic. She's a personal trainer first of all. WE only eat whole wheat, smart balance butter, rarely do we eat fast food, like once a month, and she bakes everything. My mom is a size 2 so you can imagine that she isn't cooking fatty foods.
We have in gym in the basement, so I work out 6 days a week an hour everyday. And I lift weights four times a week for about 20-30 minutes.
I'm in between being average and thick. I don't want to be thin, it wouldn't fit my bodyframe. I don't think it should goal to be thin, it should be goal to be healthy. I don';t hate on thin girls at all, my mom is a skinnyminny. BUT I know that there are thin girls who aren't fit at all, and are just thin by genetics. So all in all, thin isn't always an indiciater of being healthy, nor is thick an indiciator of not taking care of yourself. Every one has different bodsy, with different body frames. So you can't base the way people look ALL THE TIME on if they're fit or not.
I know big women who work out all the time eat right, but they have bad genes. So pleae don't believe the hype about ALL skinny women taking care of themselves.

Oh yeah a lot of people don't know the difference between being thick and just being plain overweight. There are SOME black women that aren't even thick anymore but they're not fat and obese either. As a community we need to work out more and eat less. At my college I only saw one other black girl in there excersing with me, the rest of the girls were white. That's a shame. We just don't value working out as much as we should. And we need to cut back on fried foods, butter, grease, and pork.
But what's sad, is that healthy food ususally costs more than fatty food. So if you don't have much money your usually buying fatty foods, which happens to a lot of inner city black women.

You know, its shit like this that contributes to low self-esteem of young black women. Not only do you have white men and women telling black women that because they arent "thin" something is wrong with them, but then yall turn around and further tell them that they are wrong and look down on them. I mean, really, what does this do the over-weight person's self-esteem? It only further depresses them and makes them eat more. In order for yall close-minded bastards (I am speaking in general)to fully understand what they are going through, maybe you should try to understand them and see their situation before speculating on what you think you know. With that being said, it is important that people attempt to live a healthier lifestyle but that does not mean you have to be a skeleton to do so.

I agree. I know some VERY skinny girls who don't work out or eat healthy at all, they're just skinny because it's their genes and body frame. Not all skinny girls are healthy. You can be very skinny and eat junkfood and NEVER workout, but people will automatically assume that because your skinny your healthy. NOT! My sister is very skinny and doesn't work out and eats a lot of fast food, my best friend is the same way. I know thick girls and overweight girls who eat healthy and work out ALL THE TIME but because of their genes and body frames they just can't be thin. People should assume that because someones overweight that they aren't healthy. True that a lot of overweight people aren't healthy, but there are some overweight people that are. And people don't need to be pressured to lose weight just so they can be thin. It should be a goal to be healthy.
Personally I think a real woman has meat on their bones. That's what distinguishes a woman from a man. So when I see a really skinny girl I don't think they look like a woman. A woman has curves, meat, and soft skin. But whatever floats peoples boats.

Since when does eating healthier and exercising mean skeleton? I'm no skeleton--in fact I have a LOTRs dwarf build--slightly taller than my Gimli-chan and like him, not fat, but muscular with a shape sort of fat.

Anyway, weren't we discussing OBESE people and NOT curvy or fat women?

First off, the person who started the group mentioned fat, overweight and obese. There are some who consider 50 lbs. higher than your standard weight is obese, which is not true in all cases. The point that I am trying to make is that being healthy has no certain shape.

I know that myself and that people sometimes use fat, overweight and obese synonymously, but that doesn't mean the OP meant that. I myself really go by looks than BMI charts and stuff like that because according to it, anyone like me IS obese.
