The flag flown by the Confederacy during the Civil War has been desecrated.

It doesn't appear to signify southern defiance to federal desires anymore. It's simply flown to show some people where they are not wanted. The army that flew it, the cause it represented, and the history behind the Stars and Bars is lost.

The heritage of the South isn't "lost" to southerners any more than the culture of Africa is to blacks, Kip. All that "where they're not wanted" malarchy is personal inference, based on paranoia and perpetual victim mentality.

Tell me, why was the Civil War fought?
First of all, my family is originally from the South and I have many siblings who still live in the South. My whole family feels the same way about the confederate flag and our feeling will never change. The Civil War was one of the most violent wars fought on American soil (Between the Union and the South). The Union and the South had disputes about state rights and slavery which lead to the war. The South was defeated in the war. Slavery was abolished. I have learned about the Civil War in high school and college. What is your point????????

That is all correct, except for the part about the Union And CSA having disputes about slavery. That is not part of what led to the war. Lincoln didnt even mention it until long after the war had started, and only used it to weaken the South and to gain support for his illegal war effort.

Why was the Confederacy "evil", in your opinion?(I want to know why you labeled the CSA "evil")

I have a college degree and I know what I am talking about. I still have my high school and college history text books. Why are you so worried about my feelings regarding the confederate flag? They are my feelings not yours. Who are you Dr. Phil??? You need to start answering my questions now. What does the confederate flag mean to you???????

The Confederate flag to me is a symbol of slavery, racism and hate. The Nazi symbols in Europe is banned and you could go to jail for throwing up the Hitler salute but out here its allowed. The reason why Europe banned the Hitler memorbila is because Europe has a guilty conscience and is ASHAMED of their history but here in America, Whites are PROUD of their history, racism and slavery and they dont care and its SICK that in 2013 you STILL have some of them spreading that disgusting disease of hate.

There are people and groups who use confederate flag for racist meaning! I personally know someone who uses flag as symbol of racism and it discusting and appalling and I have no respect for this person anymore .It is those people and groups who have ruined what flag really symbolizes. Racism and confederate flag is
A made up meaning that racists have chosen. It's like one day a group of racists got together and said"we will use confederate flag as our symbol of white power" others refer to flag for rebel or redneck but how does a racist claim to be a redneck or rebel ?The person I know says he is redneck racist and I didnt know that a redneck racist even existed. So are are u a rebel or a racist??? I personally think that bc people or groups r using flag for racist meaning the flag should be put away forever,

I may only be 12 but when I see some one with the confederate flag I must confront them, I feel offended. I live in the land of the free I should not have to be reminded of the dramatic experences that my ansestors have been through.
The confederate flag to me is a sign of hatred. Though the confederates freed the slaves before the north and the civil war was faght over slavery money geverment ect. The flag was a sign of the nazis, also the flag represented the south...as we know the south was pro slavery. As a Christian I know slavery is wrong and do not belive that any body should support slavery. I am biracial and that is why I am afended when I see people with the rebal flag.

No, I'm not married, never have been, but I have a boy that's 17. He lives with his mother about an hour away. I have him with me on the weekends. He's old enough now that he can drive to me --thank god, I can sleep in tomorrow!

-x--e | Mar 30, 2012 Tyler Moretti wrote: <quoted text> I was simply curious , you seem well educated so I was just wondering cause you are older and a home owner so I was just curious if you were married.......... So you wern't interested in ever being married? Or never met the right one?

I may have been "ruined" by the mother of my boy. I met her in graduate school, duly got her pregnant as is the duty of every young twenty-year-old guy :), and she turned out to be a train-wreck.

I was struggling most of my younger years just to keep him well-cared-for despite her damage and the fact that she was awarded custody (Ohio courts...smdh). So yeah, I guess after that experience, I'm not interested in marriage anymore.

My son and I are good, and the older he gets, the more he realizes that I'm not the enemy. I had a similar revelation with my own parents around his age. He's very bright, and reminds me of my sister's children.

I won't speak to the "institution" of marriage on a sociological level , since it's in an extreme state of flux right now, and I wouldn't be so arrogant to presume I know where it's going. It wasn't right for me and my boy's mother nearly 20 years ago. It's not right for me now.

Being that I was born and raised in the deep south, the confederate flag means nothing more to me than a hateful symbol. A symbol of slavery. I do understand that to whites though it means more and something sentimental to them, southern pride is what it ultimately means to them. They are proud to be confederates. I have never seen a person of African descent represent this flag and I doubt I ever will see one represent it or carry it. The flag represents a very ugly past of the United States which brought on brother against brother (Union vs. Confederacy, North vs. South). On a sidenote, with all of this said what it represents to me and what it may represent to whites, I don't think it should be banned as it's still a huge part of American history and for those who take pride in it should be allowed to do so. They have every right.

wow why cant we all just get along! confederate flag is like a pillowcase! to some a pillowcase is just a cover for a pillow, for others its a hood only missing eye holes! are we really gonna judge someone saying they are racist because of a flag they own? if you judge someone just by looking at them your just as bad as a racist yourself! lets let morons be racists, and intelligent people make up our own minds by actually interacting with these people! that is the only way we will ever know whos a racist and who isnt!

I'm doing a little research on this topic so I thought I would ask it here on the AA forums.

I've researched the topic and I found that those who support hanging the confederate flag view it as a symbol of pride and heritage not as a symbol of racial oppression. I can see how they could view it as such; but as an African American I wouldn't feel safe walking through a town that was bantered with confederate flags due to the other stigma associated with the flag, KKK, Brotherhood, etc

So, what does the confederate flag mean to you?(I'm really curious to see if any AA's actually support it, if so please elaborate on your story).

Much thanks.

It doesn't mean much to me but to others a lot perhaps.
