What does the confederate flag mean to you (African American's)?

I'm doing a little research on this topic so I thought I would ask it here on the AA forums.

I've researched the topic and I found that those who support hanging the confederate flag view it as a symbol of pride and heritage not as a symbol of racial oppression. I can see how they could view it as such; but as an African American I wouldn't feel safe walking through a town that was bantered with confederate flags due to the other stigma associated with the flag, KKK, Brotherhood, etc

So, what does the confederate flag mean to you?(I'm really curious to see if any AA's actually support it, if so please elaborate on your story).

Much thanks.

It represents to me a sign of hatred and a mark of the past. Its ugly head reminds me of the old conferderacy and of a time I would not want to live in It has no place in today's America.

It is not the confederate flag, it is the battle flag.

nothing but cheaply sewn pieces of cloth and thread

To some white Americans, it doesn't stand for slavery; it just stands for the unity of the South at that time in history.

In Georgia, the confederate symbol has long been moved from the flag.

Other states have followed or will follow.

Thats unfortunate that you would think that.

That is rather that you dont know what the confederate flag is, what it looks like or that in 2003 for the first time it became the Georgia State flag and still is today. In 2001 the Confederate battle flag was replaced with the Georgia State seal.

In 2003 the shortly used Georgia seal, was replaced with the Confederate flag also known as the "Stars and Bars"

For the first time ever in 2003 Georgia flew the confederate flag and still flies it today. the one alteration they made was putting the Georgia Seal in the center of the circle of stars.

Very few people actually know what the Confederate Flag looks like.

It represents the battle flag wow didn't know that just like the white or black with shahada is the battlw flag for jihadists islamists you learn something new everyday anyways its the southern history atleast southerners are not cowards but brave I rather die like a man than live like a coward that's why I respect the south atleast they tell you where you stand unlike the fake 2 faced north. I respect someone that is honest and tells me where I stand than someone who is a snake and preaches something and does another thing there was black and hispanics soldiers part of the confederate soldiers look it up they are conservative people not all are racist that is just a myth or streotype don't judge a book by its cover.

Most of you dont understand, even alot of us up north still have the flag and still fly it proudly. Mostly cause our families fought on that side during the war or even both. Even some african american people down south where the flag. Alot of us dont see the flag as hate, its what we grew up with and what we believe in. Even Georga and Mississippi have the confederate flag as part of the state flag. Just cause we fly the flag dont mean were racist, just cause some people are, dont take it out on the rest of us. Heritage, Not Hate.

To me it means that the people and states that the confederate flag represents, Believed in their causes. However I don't support it, I respect it though.

lol. Look...a post from a taco bending gang member, lol.

And for the record, it wasnt stolen from you beaners, you sold it.

We stole land from SOME Native Americans (alot of them sold and bartered their lands also), but no one else.

It is not our fault that the beaners and Indians didnt know the value of what they were trading, lol.

The cornfederate flag should be put where it belongs in the burn pile.
