There is speculation that Thomas Jefferson's father was "Mulatto," Andrew Jackson's mother was Black, and that Abraham Lincoln had Melungeon ancestors. Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge are also said to have Black ancestors.

well they aren't all the bright, they spelled their own candidates name wrong "McCaine"? Hmmm... If they haven't nailed the spelling after all the advertising, they haven't seen all the pictures of Obama with his mother and grandmother.

Stupid people voting right wing once again.

actually.. there is a school of thought that lincoln was the product of an east african.

i don't know if that's true, but the way historians described him as having dark skin and wooly hair.. i dunno sorta sounds like black to me.

apparently like his mother was ethiopian.

and i've read many accounts of his skin and hair being dark or wooly.

however, just like the black queen of england.. he was whitewashed in his portraits to look more white.

i'm not saying this is 100% true, but i do remember reading it.

apparently he was in actuality biracial.

There are photographs of Abraham Lincoln. Much of the Civil War was captured on film. In his facial structure he does have sort of a NE African (Ethiopian) look... but that means nothing in itself.

As for suspicions that he was partly Melungeon, that is more credible. It is becoming evident from what DNA studies are being allowed to be known by the Melungeon people, that they have Romany ancestry. So perhaps Abe Lincoln was partly Romany.

In any case, what matters is ethnicity. If someone is in the white community, thinks they're "white" and interacts as a "white", then he's "white", regardless of ancestry. Likewise, if someone is ethnically and culturally "black American", then that is what he is. I get the impression from watching Obama on TV that he is black. I mean, he uses a lot of black cultural references in his speeches.

There are a number of Presidents who've been said to have had "black" (African) or Native American ancestry. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. A lot of "white" Americans have Native mixed in, and some are partly "black" as well. This is nothing new.

You know about Elvis, right? There are claims he is part black, Jewish, Native American, and Romany.

Like Ché Guevara... we would just classify him as Argentine, but the myth is that he was partly Jewish, black, white gringo (USA), Native, Arab and so on.

why do people say "rape" all the time when it comes to interracial relationships of old?

just wondering.

yes, there were instances of rape, probably a lot, but how do you know his mother was raped?

rape is a strong word to me because i have been literally raped before and i feel people toss that word around a lot.
