Police have yet to charge a black motorist who shot dead a mentally disabled and unarmed "white Hispanic," Daniel Adkins, in a Taco Bell parking lot near Phoenix earlier this month. The two reportedly exchanged words before the shooting that occurred, according to some accounts, after the motorist almost ran over Adkins who then banged his fist on the car's windshield.

The April 3 shooting by the 22-year-old black man -- whom police in suburban Laveen have yet to identify -- has gotten little if any coverage by the national media. Nor has President Obama weighed in on the case. Is it because Adkins doesn't look like his son?

Whatever the case, the slaying of Adkins -- who was walking his yellow lab on a leash -- has ignited controversy in Arizona, and it has been commanding increasing attention in the blogosphere. Adkins' grieving family says he had the mental capacity of a 12 year old. He lived with his mom and dad.

Local media outlets are describing Adkins as a Hispanic -- yet with an "Anglo" name and light complexion, he easily qualifies as what the national media have called a "white Hispanic" when describing George Zimmerman. Is this why the national media has yet to take an interest in the case?

After Adkins was shot dead, his dog, Lady, stayed by his side, and a representative of the Humane Society was called to take the dog away. Police found no weapon at the scene despite the motorist's claim that Adkins had one.

I think the reason they may not care to put this in the media is because it's very rampant and an 'everyday thing' for black men to murder a person. They committ crimes 24/7, 365. When a white guy commits a mass shooting, it's rare so it gets into the media because of its sensation. Just my thoughts on it.

I understand what you're talking about and I actually agree with your statement. Maybe I didn't state it detailed enough. What I meant is that black men commit most of the haneous crimes like murder (black on black crime) and gang related crimes at least in the U.S. Statistics don't lie. Yes, most mass shootings are committed by white American males. However, mass shootings surpringly are rare even though it's going up right now. The murders that black men committ in this country is still much higher than mass shootings. 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook elementary, 12 in my current state I live in at the Aurora movie theater, etc. Add all of those mass shootings up that happened in the U.S. and it still doesn't even compare to the shootings/murder by black men in just ONE city alone per year: Chicago, for example. I'm not even counting in other high murder rate areas such as New Orleans, Detroit, Los Angeles, etc.

Whites have had at least 20 years to catch and still haven't caught up. Even if a mass shooting took place in the U.S. every month for 4+ years, it still will not compare to the many murders/shootings done by black men against black men in 1 year alone. Difference between the Trayvon case and this case is that the bm did not chase after Adkins like Zimmerman did. We simply do not know enough about the conflict to know who started the incident, but a witness saidthat she saw Adkins swinging at the bm.
