Introduction:Young Girls Being Impregnated By Older Men.
Government and non-government entities have characterized "teenage pregnancy" and "teenage motherhood" as major social problems in the United States. The 400,000 to 500,000 young women under age 20 who become mothers each year in the U.S. have often been "blamed" for causing immense social costs, including higher public welfare costs and negative outcomes for their children (Maynard 1997; National Campaign 1997). However, claims that children of teenage mothers suffer or generate higher social costs than to children of older mothers from similar socioeconomic backgrounds have been disputed in recent reports (Cohen et al 2002; Hotz 1997, 2000).
Preventing teenage pregnancy is defined as a goal of several government (e.g., Federal Office of Adolescent Pregnancy Programs OAPP) and non-government organizations (e.g., The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy NCPTP). However, a review of the data presented by the NCPTP (1997) shows that adult males age 20 and older, not teenage males, father the large majority of births to mothers under age 20 (an estimated 280,000 of the 430,000 births in 2002). However, this important fact generates only sporadic attention from the major organizations involved with preventing teen pregnancy. In addition, the fact that older partners are also implicated in most other negative sexual outcomes, such as abortions and sexually transmitted infections (STIs, including HIV), among teens has received virtually no discussion.
Many of the major organizations and foundations concerned with teenage pregnancy (i.e., Kaiser Family Foundation, 1998) do not mention this issue at all, while others (Planned Parenthood 2004; Alan Guttmacher Institute 1999; National Center for Policy Analysis 2001) cite it only in passing, with little comment on its implications. Even less discussion surrounds the fact that a surprisingly large proportion of births fathered by teenage males (about 40,000 annually) involve partners over age 20. Finally, for the youngest mothers of most concern to policy makers, those under age 15, about six times more babies are fathered by men over age 20 than by peer boys (National Center for Health Statistics 1908-2003). After a brief flurry of research activity and policy proposals in the mid- and late-1990s, interest in the issue of older partners in teenage pregnancy and childbearing has waned considerably. This is true, there are a lot of young women and men in our community today that walk around emotionally scarred due to being sexually violated at some point in their life. The sad fact about the black community is that these type of crimes are not reported to the authoritys as they should be,There are excuses given for black men that have sexual contact with under age girls,The community will label her as a "fast ass",or find some way to blame her for being violated. There are growm men in the community that father children with girls as young as 12 years old,Those men should be placed in jail and charged with rape, however nothing is done. Young girls are left to raise and support the child alone, while the man continues this same behavior without being held accountable for it.There is also information coming out about why so many of our young black men are gay or bisexual. Many of them are speaking out about being sodomized at very young ages by their fathers, uncles, bas eball coaches and church clergy in the black community.Where is the out cry about this horrible treatment of our children at the hands of men in the community and family that they are suppose to be able to trust? In other communitys the criminal is held accountable for his actions, but in the black community he is protected by the women and is allowed to continue his abuse of the young and defenseless. This explains why we are seeing so many of our youth being sexually active at younger ages and some are confused about there sexuality.

This is how I know ain't nuthin changed but the weather.

Even in the movie color purple, Danny glover character was like 30 and she was like 14.

A lot of girls today are 15,16 years old with boyfriends who are like 28.

Their mothers don't say shyt cause the guys gives these girls money, which she doesn't have to.

A father around is out the question.

Now to go back further,in slavery girls 13,and 14 were bed h0s for white men.

We need a resoulution. I meant to say revolution.

Maybe we just need revolvers.

I think a solution will begin with conscious parenting that instills high self-esteem in our girls. I have a daughter who is 15, and one of the things our family has done all her life is let her know how valuable she is. This is reinforced by the church she attends (and mine, but she doesn't go to my church). She has had "the talk" with us and has materials to keep her savvy about respecting her body. She has strong male role models in her life who look after her. The women in our family remember what we were like at 15 and we work to make it so she doesn't fall into the same trap. Many girls get into trouble because the first halfway-decent-looking man who smooth-talks them will take advantage. We are not, on the whole, arming our girls as we need to.

.....Disgusting is one word to describe it. The worst part is that there are MOTHERS who know of this, not all, and allow this to continue. One poster had it correct: "BLACKS" are quick to protect a RAPIST, CHILD MOLESTER, etc., but it is "WHITES" who are willing to prosecute them. What is wrong with that picture? This isn't Africa, this is North America. A 12 year old girl doesn't have the mind capacity to decide when she's ready for sex, but a 30 year old man DOES. This is called abuse. There are laws in this country against that last time I've read. A prime example of AA aninamlistic behavior is the case with R. Kelly. Most "blacks" were quick to defend R. Kelly because they "like his music" when he was accused of sex with a little girl. They didn't even take a step back to think about it. I can see why this type of behavior also leads to the high HIV/AIDS cases in the community too. No one likes the word "protection" no matter what type of situation you use it in.

That is what happens when black women keep giving it up to the thugs and bad boys. Young girls see it, follow that same path, and in the process become more vulnerable...

I agree. No man of any personality, occupation, or race is exempt from the label of doing bad things bad men do.

I would disagree with this statement. I can't think of one person (Balck or White) that was in any way 'satisfied' with the R Kelly decision. Not one. I think surprised would be a better description. I mean everyone (jury) agreed it was him in the video; the problem was that the victim denied involvement and let his nasty ass off. The 'system' as it exists today didn't work or protect.

EXACTLY!

Now, wouldn't it be great if all the people who say WHITE people do this and WHITE people do that apply the same reasoning when a white person does something terrible.

Yes, ALL RACES do bad things!

Incredible isn't it?!

Denita, for some time I have said that there are older men sleeping with young girls.

I noticed it from the very first time I volunteered to work with charities and social service agencies.

Some years ago, in 1998 I think, I FINALLY saw where the government had done a study and found the same thing.

Of course, it was only because of welfare benefit payments, not real concern for young Black girls, but I was like "FINALLY. SOMEONE GETS IT."

Now, I still believe the parents and such need to do the things it takes to prevent these men from coming near the young girls, but with the Black family in splinters, it is easy to see how vulnerable they are.

Hello again Mr. Vetteman...while I am complaining about men, there were WOMEN who actually felt bad about the decision.

And a WOMAN, the girl's mother, failed to prevent this from happening and then didn't even bother to testify on behalf of her daughter.

If, despite all my vigilance, some man DID manage to sleep with my 15 year old daughter, you can certainly believe I would try to have him prosecuted, no matter who he was or how much money he had.
