Yep. Not Trinidad or Brazil (but know lots of people who have). I've been to Carnivals in Costa Rica. They span an entire week sometimes a couple of days over. A lot of music, dancing, costumes, things for children to do, beaches are packed. Streets filled with stalls selling everything. Just thousands of people having fun and flying in to have fun every October or just about.

I was in Sao Paulo during Carnival in 2007. It's essentially just a gigantic party. Samba music blasting, scantily clad women in bizarre costumes, drinks being served at every vendor, and everyones dancing. Honestly besides the chicks in the costumes, I prefer New York City's Puerto Rican Day Parade.

No, but I would love to go. Have you seen the film: Black Orpheus. It, turly, is one of the best films ever made.

Was in T&T (not bad, but far from Brazil), other Caribbean (DR included) carnivals fall even more behind. & when it comes to Brazil I'm more or less every year there -- being a member of Portela (RJ) & FDG (BA) makes it logical. What ya wanna know?! ;-) Some local 'internal' secret? lol

Little USA ghetto biscuit, you were nowhere near Brazil, let alone carnival in SP to have your dumb & delusional azz banged & tapped by gay Brazilians. ;-P But hey, if you wanna have your little wiegga azz pimped around in BRA & then sold out to Naija bros overseas, can arrange this swiftly & even earn some bucks on ya. ;-) Just lemme know,'kay?! Good.

I haven't yet had the oppurtunity to go to Brazil. Although i have been invited numerous times by friends....

However, although i haven't been there as of yet.....Everyone knows that Brazil's carnival is The BOMB...(There are many)....I have heard some of my non- carioca friends say theirs is better...However, i'll leave that argument for those who know. That's an inter-family thing....LOL!....I wouldn't know how to distinguish between the Carnival of Sau paulo, Bahias, or Recife's carnival.

Rio is rhe biggest extravaganza though...Is it the best in Brazil?....You can answer that. LOL!.. In my opinion.....I think it's a matter of perception. To an outsider Rio's carnival may be the best and in many way's it PROBABLY is.....Again, Non-Brazilian resident cannot trully answer that.

There's simply no comparison of brazilian carnival with other countries...Brazil is in a class by themself.

The whole country stops....Super-hot beautiful women, Pumping music, Mega energy, whole Samba schools dancing, great costumes, festive atmosphere......It just goes on and onnnn....

Brazil has NO rival for best Carnival in the world.

Let me go.......I gotta pack my bags!.....LOL!

I was at the Rio Carnival a few years ago(1997) but only in the staging area with a friend who was performing. She's a TAM flight attendant now and does not have time to dance anymore.
Also a pre-carnival party at the Copacabana Palace hotel.

I went to a Carribean-fest in NYC a while ago. It was like 2005 or something. I liked it. All the different floats, the loud, tacky bright colors, the different costumes and music, everybody dancing in the streets...it's alotta love. But they have those Carib festivals all the time during the summer months in NY, so you should go check one out if you like that culture.

I'm kinda spoiled, I've been to PR, DR, Aruba, and Bermuda and the festivals there are actually way more crowded, anything goes, and the parties start on Saturday night and don't end until a couple hours before everyone has to go to work on Monday morning. For instance, "Studio Night" is every 1st Tuesday of the month in San Juan and it's just like NYC PR Day Parade...but it's every month! LOL! Fireworks, drinks spilling everywhere, everybody dancing, local artists singing on-stage, litle kids hanging out of their windows trying to see what the adults are doing, LOL. It's really fun.

PuertO Rico is always fun and we always have some fetival going on around the island on a small scale......Our most recent crime wave and illicit drug trade has put a dent into these feativals.

We are only a little over 4 million people.

Howvever, the times are changing there. We are seriuosly under American influence at a loss to our TRUE hispanic roots.

We have paid a dear price for our material comfort in relation to the rest of the Caribbean.

Oi, mano. Just stopped shortly by to see if there's somethin' new around here. ;-) Well, it's true. Brazil has many carnivals & one can say they never stop -- in a way. lol Nah, actually the real carnivals are all around Feb. obviously, carnival of Amazonia (used to be off limit to the foreigners & an event dedicated only to the Amerindians & mestizoes) being an Xception & taking place during the summer. Rio?! Nice, & very (stereo)typical for Brazil. SP is RJ's worse copy & a bit cheaper. Recife has the biggest carnival in Brazil & in the world, w/ over 2 million people as memebers coming from all over Brazil. ;-) Yeah, mostly my Nordestinos. lol Salvador is again diff. from Recife, RJ & SP, but big & unique as well. The emphasis is more on Afro-culture compared to more mixed look of other carnivals. Then almost every village has its own bigger or smaller carnival & traditions. Olinda is also famous for its carnival & culturally close to Recife as well. Brazilians usually mix places & events & take part in diff. carnivals every year, based on momentaneous inspiration, mood & money, money,.oney,..ney,...ey,....e. ,....e.... ;-D Next year (carnival in 2011) I'll be playing again for Portela (RJ) so you might see a big & tall brown guy hittin' the drum fast & hard. lol On the link below you'll see how Brazilians like to groove amongst friends, even w/ the outta tune instruments, for that matter everything goes -- lo que me mas gusta. lol Vamo' nisso geeeent'!!....Solidaauum a dooois eh um castigooooo!.... Valeu Brasil! ;-D Abrazos y hasta pronto!

Oi! Actually, SP has its own old history of carnival as well, maybe I was a bit too harsh for a min in stating what I have. lol Regional competition I reckon. Brazilian Afro-Italians had an important role in famous & old SP Vai-Vai carnival group, for example. But this is another, old & interesting story. ;-) Anyway, something for ya, straight from Rio's 'New Orleans'(as someone well said). Axé y abrazos, mano!
