East Africans have Arab blood, don't they? So aren't they in fact mixed?

East African Cushitic people are amongst the oldest people on earth. They do not have Arabic/Indian/or White blood. That being said, there are a minority of them who are mixed (5%). These mixed people are easily recognizable because they simply look Arab (Known as Banadirs), or what not. Africa is large continent with diverse people just like any other continent. We don't expect all Asians to look alike now do we? The Horn is pretty diverse in phenotype. My mother has long straight hair along with my sisters. I myself have straight to curly hair. My brother on the other hand, has thick coarse hair. Again, nothing out of the ordinary for Horners, but this is not because of back migrations or outside influence.

Well, I know they're not female, but put it this way - although it was up rather than down, I've never seen longer hair than the Jackson 5's!
Who cares about hair being long. My hair was always down my back when I was a child because my mother hot combed it. When I started relaxing, it never has been the same. Who give a sh**? I put on weave and keep it moving. I'm beautiful on the inside. Know who you are and work the runway, baby!

Yes, this is so true. A Black women's hair will grow long esp if she cornrows it or plaits it regularly but she MUST STAY AWAY FROM RELAXERS.
The chemicals in hair relaxers are the worst thing for a black woman's hair. But you will still need something to keep it soft so that it does not hurt when you comb it - I was thinking about using natural-laxer by baka beauty. It is supposed to be chemical free and contains only plant based products. Any one ever tried it? What did you think and how did it work out?
Just use olive oil, shea butter, and natural oil products. I have 4 daughters and I began using natural oil products and their hair grew so- so- much that it was unbelievable. Their nappy rough hair began to feel VERY soft and stronger. Also, hot comb instead of relax. You'll see a HUGE difference. Use reconstructers with protein. The bottle always say to leave on fo-r 5 minutes. Leave it on for 30 minutes with a plastic cap(do this once a week and I guarantee your hair will be softer, stronger and longer) Also moisturize and go- to -this website if you want healthier and longer hair. blackhaircaregrowth.blogspot.com
It's very informational and you'll see results!!!

Hello my name is Aleah and I claim being African American but I have Irish, Indian, and German descent. But I have cery long hair past my bra strap. I cut my hair when I was 16, and it was a littl past my shoulder. At 19 my hair was almost to the middle of my back but hair grows very long and very thinck in my family. I heard genetics dteremines the length of hair in ones family. Long hair is a must for women in my family because we are all mixed with a large ethnic background. But if AA's take good care of their hair, little product build up, condition weekly, and use a ceramic flat iron once a week and wrap the hair the rest your hair should grow. Thats how mine grows so fast. I shampoo, condition, leave in conditioner and use a ceramic flat iron!

Yes Black women can have long hair. My sister is Black and as a child, she'd always have long thick hair. It was about mid back length and natural.

Black women can grow their hair and have a proper diet. But even then, some can't because hair is set to grow for a certain amount of time, then stop and hair may only reach shoulder length because their hair grows slower. The best they can do is try to become healthier so their hair grows faster in that time frame. There are also women whose genetics can prevent them from having long hair.

Yes, there is a misconception that black hair doesn't grow. It does, but like caucasians and their fair skin, you need to take extra precaution to preserve it's health. If you're white, you can't sit out and bake in the sun consistently and expect to have your skin look a certain way when you're 35. If you're Asian, your eyelids will appear more droopy earlier than other races as you age. And depending on your hair type, you've got to apply a small amount of practical maintenance.

So many black women I know dye and fry their hair, and use the wrong products on their hair (wrong relaxers especially), and you can't do this if you want to keep the health, especialy due to how black hair retains moisture.'Good hair' retains more moisture, thus is not as susceptible to breakage.

You see black men with braids that have long hair (even longer if it were to be permed and straightened fully) and its because they don't do anything extra to their hair.

My hair was down to my booty when I was a girl, and I went through a period of cutting (because I get bored easily). Right now my hair is to my bra strap.

People say certain black girls with long hair have a certain grade of hair, but that's not true. IT's about preservation.

NO, black girls will not have natural long hair unless they are mixed with other genes. If they have long hair..they must have mixed.

So sorry but no they don't.

Check your ancestor.. you must have some mixture in you. I know it is sad but true. Are your father and grand father/mother all blacks?

This is not true, hair length and race are entirely unrelated unless you are implying there is a magical gene that dictates hair growth and it's magically only innate to non black groups and that race actually exists in the biological sense..

Come on, you know that West Africans will almost never have long straight hair unless they are mixed with something. Nappy hair is an African American trademark. You are not West African so you don't count.

Dear rekik, This picture you got is one of the best of all others. Somebody must have taken you.

Now back to subject...yes it is ? If it is not about race..then why do you think you will see a lot of black woman with weaves?

because it is all about race. I am just saying the reality. Why do you think many people think that Ethiopians are not blacks? Thats because of the hair and facial features.

I think you have some other genes in you...other than real black...thats why people blacks/Whites think you aint black. or look like black because of the hair ....I am just seeing what i observe.

Come on ...think about it.

By that same token most Europeans/Asians won't have nappy hair because it's not conducive or complementary to their surroundings.
Exceptions are:
http://www.hairparlor.com/glossary/wooly-hair...

African Americans exhibit a plethora of different hair textures, nappy being one.

This isn't a good pic but my hair is straighter than some whites, race & geographical origin hold some merit in this but not much.

Thank you, and it's a misconception about black women being the only consumers of weaves, all ethnic groups & different spectrum of ppl engage in that cosmetic enhancement.

Ethiopians are black and I am black also. Most Wolloye's look just like me, it has a lot to do with Raya's climate. It's pretty chilly there, due to elevation and other factors, it has brought upon the phenotypes we see in Rayans and to a lesser extent HOA's today.
