This is a topic I see alot, and I would like to know others' opinions. Here's my stance:

I Don't Know. Are blacks still under the same slave mentality as 300 odd years ago? Or do some blacks just have a preference, like any other race? I mean alotta white guys like tanned white women, but not ethnic women; or only white women with ethnic features (white men love Angelina Jolie's lips, and looove Jessica Biel's booty). And alotta asian guys like Japanese girls more (who look more white), but don't really like white girls. The only difference is, people aren't blowing that way outta proportion. Personally, I don't prefer a certain skin shade. When I see fine...that's all I see, not the skin color associated with it.

Also, when black men claim a preference for dark skinned women, they get praised for it...but when they claim a preference for light-skinned women, they are all of a sudden self-haters? Double-standards?

I think alot of it is enbeded into the minds of black folk that being of a lighter skin complexion makes you better and represents beauty. They believe that it equals superiority in many ways.

I think when it comes to looks, black folk glorify and praise lightskin people because it's closer in color to the white man who are looked at as "superior" in our society.

We have ben conditioned since slavery to hate ourselves for our distinct features;wide nose, darkskin, kinky hair ,and therefore so many of us strive to look white or to have a light baby because it has been conditioned in our minds to believe that light is right.

Now as far as preferences is concerned,I think alot has changed now in the new millenium than the way things were back in the 80's.I think more people are attracted to darkskin;however, there are still many people who are attracted to lightskin.

What I have noticed is that most people feel that darkskin is better suited on men and lightskin is better for women.

It does seem to me however that when a person does go for lightskin it's not because they think lightskin is sexier than darkskin but because they feel that lightskin makes the person superior.

Alot of women still date white men or lightskin black men to have a lighter child.

This is my opinion.

I personally think ebony women are the most beautiful, but there is beauty in all shades, in all people.

There's a lot of factors to this--multicultural societies and a changing meaning of what's 'beautiful' also the praticular history of darkskin in western socities. To be a 'dark' Asian is very different than to be a 'dark' Black person...you know?

Personally, I think a preference for something is when you acknowledge you like it more...but you know there are a multitude of exceptions. Brainwashing is when you don't think there are exceptions to your preference...so that a darkskin woman can never be beautiful, for instance.

...also usually you don't go on and on about a preference.

Dark skin on a male looks far more masculine. The natural pale and ghosly skin of white people looks unhealthy and feminine on a male. Most whites do not like their natural very pale color. They much prefer a heavy tan. Black skin projects masculinity. Pale white skin projects femininity.

Very good point at the bottom!
"What I have noticed is that most people feel that darkskin is better suited on men and lightskin is better for women."
I too have noticed this, whats the deal? This makes me lean towards the preference argument, because historically the black male has been the most villified, but yet darker skin has been heavily (or at least equally) praised on them. That wouldn't be a likely product of brainwashing.

I know...i know...I'm just tired of avoiding the the issue by saying things like that. Yes, all black people are beautiful, but lets get down to the core of the problem. Why do some consider others more beautiful?

I just think that society feels that darkskin is masculant and looks better on men and lightskin is feminite and looks better on women.

Why???

Simple.

Light is feminite and dark is masculant.

Do you ever wonder why black men are the most desired race of men yet black women are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to beauty and are looked at as ugly in the eyes of society???

Think on that!

Ionno, I mean black women are coming up. Like back in the day, white men would never admit they like black women. But now it's like, "Okay fine, I like mixed black women" (like they can look at someone and tell they are mixed). I think as we overcome racial stygmas, more people will open up even more. Not to mention Beyonce got voted on Askmen as the most desirable woman of 2007.

As for black men, it's now fully open for anyone to admit they are attracted to them. Kind of like some type of sex symbol (a good and a bad thing).

Well i'm not denying the fact that the black community desire light skin over dark skin.....
seriously I can not answer that question...
I guess it's just been there......

me I have never had competition w/ light skin women....so idk

my sister is light skin and she is beautiful....

many guys approach both of us.....

so idk...

No,I don't think you're masculine.

I'm just speaking on how society view black women and women of color.

Lightskin has always been looked at as feminine and darkskin has always been viewed as masculine, because dark is manly and light is feminite and soft.

This is why society don't view black women in the same light they view black men.

Black men are desired because of our swagger and dark masculine skintones;we are sex symbols(mandingo warrior image),while black women are looked down on because darkskin has always been viewed as a masucline feature/trait.

Dark is masculine in societies eyes and that's why dark women are not looked at as beautiful.

I love darkskin women personally but i'm just speaking on how society views darkskin black women.

I don't think any u guys r right
Light skin femine dark skin masculine?

If your dark skin u have a vagina breast and hips like a girl. Trust me there's nothing masculine about u

If ur light skin have a penis and produce sperm. Ur not more feminine than the girl with dark skin.

Does That's means light skin men are more feminine than dark skin women. And every guy gay or striaght will choos that light skin guy over the dark skin girl because he is so much more feminine despite his penis? Lk wtf??

Ur conversation makes no since. Trust me femininty and masculinity has absouletly nothing 2 do with skin color. More thann has it to do with the way you walk and act and talk. And most importantly it has to do with gender!!!

I don't have a preference. Just look fine and treat me good. But I gotta admit, I mostly have the lighter dudes come up to me. I've had two light skinned boyfriends before(Im dating one now). I did go out with a darker one but he played me, but I don't think it has anything to do with their tones though.

I dont know if it is all preference. I saw an experiment on tv where the eye area was shown on males and females. In most cases, both black and whites tended to guess female for the fairer images and male for the darker images. I was floored.Somewhere subconsiously our brain associates fairness with females and darkness with males.
