<quoted text> actually I didn't see the movie what was the name of it? So I can watch it does an actor play Trujillo or was it a documentary about him??
Awww man I think you would like this movie. I didn't think I'd like it because for one I just grabbed it and went on to purchase it, but when I watched it, it was really good. The name of the movie is called 'In the time of the butterflies' and set in Dominican Republic when Trujillo was dictator. The movie is based around him, the DR people struggle and the race issue, and most importantly the Mirabal sisters. One of the sisters is played by actress Selma Hayek and she does a good job in this. And the actor who plays Trujillo is the same actor who played as Selena's father in the movie 'Selena'. It's an actual movie about this not a documentary.

<quoted text> Those were not purely whites to be detaile correct. They where captured Berber Moors and biracial kids of BlackaMoors and Whites slaves in Spain that was kicked out after the Moorish fall in Spain. So they were already mixed with blcls before they got there and then mixed alittle more with blacks. This doesnt make them black but a closer relative only. I agree with you on being desperate to claim everything black. We have to have respect for thoe people self awareness but i would say they do look more like lightskinned blacks or biracial kids of Spainiards and Blacks. Dna will prove what I say as they have dna matches with Morrocco and Gauches.
Europeans still migrated to Puerto Rico not long ago, though. I believe it was attempting to make sure "whites" were not a minority there; it's a vague piece of information I read, not long ago.

Many'd be surprised, you can see many Puerto Ricans who do look mainly European on the island today. A lot of Americans go solely on the bias of "heavily mixed looking" PR's based upon those they see in NYC - usually the yearly PR parade is what spotlights them; but many of them migrated to the U.S. while many of European descent stayed on the island, seeing as how they had no need or want to go to the U.S.- they had their own successful businesses on the island already. And, who the heck would want to leave a tropical paradise like that, if you've got a nice business there anyway?:-)

Anyway, this claim-game is silly. It's all based on insecurity.

let's add some class to this argument:

http://www.ssc.wisc.edu/cde/demsem/loveman-mu...

You will want to read the abstract. It is a short summary of the entire paper, which is lengthy.

"We find that the statistical whitening of Puerto Rico between 1910 and 1920 is primarily due to changes in the social definition of whiteness. The children of interracial unions, in particular, were much more likely to be classified as white in 1920 than in 1910." (Loveman et. al.)

In other words, in PR, mulattoes became white because they wanted to be and were allowed to be by PR society, which is largely governed by spanish rule which accepts a form of "reverse" ODR of the US (one white part equals all white in spanish colonies), not because they actually WERE white. BUT NOT IN AMERIKKKA!

LMFAO! Look at what the Puerto rican, Clara Rodriguez writes about being "non-white", but "not black" and look at the actual experience of PRs on page 92/93. SOUNDS BLACK TO ME!

Insecurity about what? In NYC PRs and Dominicans are AA's BITCHES in terms of cultural assimilation. They borrow HELLA shit from AAs culture wise (hip hop anyone? sagging pants? corn-rows? Daddy-yankee (bless that FINE-ASS man) and his backwards-ass cap) WHY? Because yall beheld and feared the unified power of the AAs in the black power movement. Hell, we're the first minority to have a president for christ sake! Yall GOT to respect that!

<quoted text>The point is that there is an African presence in Puerto Rico, nobody cares if it wasn't the same amount as Cuba or Hispaniola. Second the area which eventually became the United States(British America)didn't see as many slaves as Brazil and other areas, so your point is what?
Only 5% of slaves came to the U.S. the other 95% were spread across latin america. Those of 95% that dont identify with africans at home or in the diaspora its cool because there 800 million africans or african descended people to unite with. Its 2013 so if you are not interested in pan africanism there is no use for them anyway. Let them do them there is work to do rather than uniting with people who clearly have no interest in uniting with you. In fact they are running in the opposite direction.

The U.S. still hates us so dont be sure about gaining anything. White folks aint in a hurry to give up anything thats why having a international option is important for black people. King and Malcolm moved in that direction in thier latter years.

You sound very ignorant. This right here is why other ethnicities in the diaspora,(both latino and black)don't like AA,or want to be associated with you, some even HATE, you all..real talk. As far as your "black president" he's just a token.

I disagree with this Black honey. as someone who has been around many Puerto Ricans for a long time, i do not think most of them look "biracials half black and half white", a few do, but generally they look different than that. Whith the exception of Louisiana creoles, AA biracials and mixed AA generally don't have a Latino/mestizo look that people would mistake for puerto rican or dominican. For example, biracials like Halle berry and Shemar Moore, as mixed as they are, and look, i would NEVER mistake them for Puerto Rican..the look is not really the same.

I'm getting a little tired of certain people saying that African-Americans or black Americans are trying to claim Latinos. It's a tired statement and it's ridiculous. Tego Calderone says he's black, Celia Cruz said she was black, etc. NOBODY'S saying that Afro-Latinos are Afro-Americans. People are saying that they are black. Now, if a Latino who is obviously black, says he isn't black because he isn't from the US, there are some self hating issues apparent. Another thing, black Americans are just as mixed as the others in the diaspora. Many people on this board also have a narrow view of what "black" or "African" is. ALL AFRICANS DO NOT LOOK ALIKE AND ARE NOT ALL DARK SKINNED. There is a lot of ignorance on this board. Lastly, the information about Puerto Rico not having a significant slave population, I suggest you research the Afro-Puerto Rican Arturo Schomburg's writings.
& ya're full of BS, like a typical retarded Yank ghetto azz, kiddo. ;-) We Latin peeps dun see ya claim 35% of White Yanks w/ some African admixture as 'black', do we?! ;-D Try to call Berbers black & ya might lose yo' dumb empty Yank head very fast, just sayin'. ;-) Besides, I dun even hear southern Macaronesians consider themselves & self identify as black, although they are Africans. ;-D
